Do you enjoy making a cup pour over coffee, but hate how many paper filters it uses? Thankfully, I found this filterless pour over coffee cone that solves that problem! I personally hate wasting filters every time I want to make a quick coffee, so a stainless steel filter free pour over cone was the perfect solution. But how well does it work? Let's find out!

My understanding is that paper filters absorb some of the oils and fats of the beans, reducing some of the intensity. Apparently combining both metal and paper filters has won some competitions.

A pain to clean??? I knock it out against garbage and rinse. Done. You have obviously never had to clean a caulking gun after a tube of acoustical seal exploded out the back!!!! Lol

I really dislike the paper taste of pour overs, so I’ll give this a try! Thanks!

Do you rinse the filter before you put the grounds? Not doing so could be the source of the papery taste

Ouuu I really like that! Definitely something I'll be adding to my coffee tool kit, I always run out of filters, haha

I used one for a few months two years ago. Unfortunately the grinds got stuck in the holes at the bottom of the filter resulting in almost no water passing through, or very little. It was partially my fault, grinding too fine

I had the same issue, after a few months no water would pour over, I am still using mine , however with a filter.

I’ve read reviewers sharing that they burned off the smaller grinds by putting the filter in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20~30 minutes.

wish they made a version that wasn't as fine, like the metal basket I got for my drip machine
@LifestyleLab_
@LifestyleLab_ 7 месяцев назад
Unfortunately, that would let through a lot of fines into your coffee as you need to grind finer for a single cup pour over than you would for a large batch brew

Unfortunately these metal filters are almost impossible to clean! And some are double-wall which makes it twice as difficult to clean. Move on, nothing to see - or hear - here.

I loved the one I had until the silicone gasket came off the bottom. It's impossible to put it back on the base. Then if you use it, it tips and you have to hold it to steady it. I would love it if they'd make it without the gasket.

Wasting a lot of water to clean. I couldn't use it. When I went for a couple years with a metal filter in my AeroPress, my LDL cholesterol went way up. Switched back to paper and it dropped back down again.

The water factor is an interesting point. However, I never heard of coffee being able to spike cholesterol.

This question is kinda related to another video of yours: did you purchase your Niche Zero grinder off Indiegogo? And how did you make sure that the delivery will be guaranteed through crowdfunding?
@LifestyleLab_
@LifestyleLab_ 4 года назад
I purchased the Niche after the campaign ended, now that they're in full production (they still handle their ordering through Indiegogo for now). The short answer with crowdfunding is that you really aren't ever guaranteed delivery, but in my experience with backing projects on Kickstarter, I've never had one fall through before. There is always some risk involved in backing a product that has yet to be produced.

If I use a french press, and I simply want to remove the finer silt from my coffee after the brew, would this be as good as passing it through a paper filter?
@LifestyleLab_
@LifestyleLab_ 2 года назад
No, this will let more fines through than a paper filter. Check out our video on the Fellow Shimmy!! It might be the perfect product for your situation
@Theincrediblespud
@Theincrediblespud 2 года назад
@@LifestyleLab_ Will it still remove a good amount of them?
@JLynnDetamore

My disappointment is that I get very weak coffee. The hot water goes through very quickly; it obviously doesn't have enough time to brew. My water's 200° F. I'm using the same coarse grind I use for cold brew, and in my French press.
@LifestyleLab_
@LifestyleLab_ 4 года назад
Try grinding slightly finer! A grind that is appropriate for cold brew will certainly be too coarse for pour over, regardless of if youre using a paper or metal cone

bruh... just rinse the paper before brewing, that both get rid of the papery taste and preheat ur brewer. Still enjoying hario whenever i want a clean and crisp alternative instead of espresso.
@LifestyleLab_
@LifestyleLab_ 4 года назад
I've never had any issue with papery taste personally, my larger motivation for trying this product was to avoid wasting / forgetting to pack / running out of of filters

@@LifestyleLab_ fair enough. producing filter paper indeed use lots of water tho factories do recycle celluslose fiber from earlier production (30% recycled 70% brand new). Also i dont travel much with v60, aeropress' design is way more travel friendly and they.

I think it's interesting that people spend a big chunk of effort trying to eliminate any trace of paper flavour in their pour over, but then actually end up missing it when it's gone! That being said, I found that I could get a very similar cup to traditional pour over with this cone, but it did take some adjustment to my grind coarseness to accommodate for the change in flow rate (really the only taste affecting factor in pour over other than temperature)
