I’m 100% convinced that everything from The Young One to Bottom is a single storyline. I refuse to explain further, but trust me when I say the idea isn’t crazy at all!!
I came up with a theory that Vyvyan changed his name because he got sick of it being called a girl's name. And Rick changed his to Richie because he was sick of being called PRick. Eddie changed his surname from Basterd to Hitler because he wanted "a less problematic surname"...😂
I actually totally agree! Richie tried to be famous and failed so they moved into the house in Bottom and eventually admitted defeat so just kicked the s*** out of each other forever more 😂
I think the underlying issue was the way it really p****d off Bruce Forsyth and especially Jimmy Tarbuck who, to this day is quite angry about it. The entire series was only ever shown once on the BBC. Fortunately I videoed them all. It followed The Young Ones which was too difficult to beat. Filthy, Rich & Catflap wasn’t that good but it’s worth a watch.
rik ade and nigel along with ben elton paul jackson and ed bye were a dynamic humor force.... what a pity there was no series two...! thanks for this upload
I know it’s been 2 years, but I just wanted to 2nd your comment about Paul Jackson. He was partly responsible for some of my favourite comedies, but his name doesn’t really get mentioned a lot! 👍
This came out a few years after The Young Ones. I was so so disappointed by this effort back in the day. Finally decided to give it another go, after allowing a few decades to brew. Three minutes in and I'm already pissing myself laughing, this is awesome!
EPISODES 1. Dead Milkmen 0:00 2. Game Show 34:55 3. Dinner Party 1:09:52 4. A Death in the Family 1:44:08 5. Breakfast Television 2:18:45 6. Smear Campaign 2:57:38
I watched this when it came out and thought it was genius straight away. It's a dull thing to say but me and three mates would go down the pub all weekend and quote this to each other. I can't look at Eddie Catflap without thinking of my old mate Kev, who had all the facial mannerisms down to a T. So much of it made it into our daily language. Don't get me wrong - Young Ones & Bottom are brilliant but this beats them hands down. I still have a great urge to walk through my front door, hurl a pint glass into the air and jump up to headbutt it as it falls to the ground. Maybe one day...
Grew up watching bottom when i was a kid . Loved the hilarious violent chaos. Had absolutely no idea they did a previos series called filthy rich & flatcap. Absolutely buzzing to stumble over these episodes!!!
So happy to have discovered this. As groundbreaking as the Young Ones was, and as riotious as Bottom was, this was always my favourite Mayall/Edmonson sitcom. And one of Ben Elton’s most underrated works too.
This is without a shadow of doubt my favourite Comedy Duo of all time everything they done was successful and a great laugh to watch. Thank you for uploading this.
Wich jolly gap toothed scouser comedian who now presents Winner Takes All ,first rose to fame on Sunday Night At The London Palladium ,he also enjoys the odd round of golf and his initials are J.T? 😂😂😂
I’m so glad that this was uploaded, never heard or seen this. 1982 I watched The Young Ones, and most of what they delivered. But this?? Never. Thanks again ❤❤ RIP R M…
@@JamesMooreMarketing Although the slapstick elements were much the same, FR&C was more topical than Bottom and was a direct stab at the tedious light entertainment industry that dominated mainstream TV for decades. I still think it’s woefully underrated to this day.
Hasnt seen this since i was 16. At the time i found it hard to reconcile nigel as a deviant old bastard rather than neil, but he was brilliant. Thanks for posting, daughter
This is some funny shit, just like Bottom was. I have the complete series DVD of that. I guess Abe decided to shave his head and wear glasses for that role. He's funny either way!
Loved young ones and bottom but for some reason I didn't watch this when it released and heard it wasn't as good as young ones/bottom but just watched this and it is really good! Can now see where Richard Richard and Edward Elizabeth Hitler came from!
It's had a very mixed responses from fans. I love it, but do need to be in a certain mind frame to watch it. Whereas I find I can watch Bottom anytime.
I think a lot of people missed out on this classic, and it is classic….because it wasn’t well received at the time and there was only the one series… and of course their age….whilst both the young ones & bottom we’re both more publicised and seen as more “classic comedies”
Yes, massively so. Think they called the 2nd series Bottom :))) Sadly, before Riks' untimely and very sad death, they were planning to do another series of Bottom, based with them in a retirement home I think.
ah yes, i heard ade talking about that in an interview once. "we'll be twatting eachother with colostomy bags". i laughed out loud just from him saying that!
This is absolute genius television 😂😂😂😂 massively underrated it’s ace! But it went under the radar for a lot of people, unless your of a certain age like me😂
Don't like to see people get this wrong and assume it's some lazy fart comedy with a few lefty references. It pales in comparison to their other work but this is still a classic skewering of "light entertainment". Nigel Planer as Ralph Filthy is particularly underrated!
@@lastboyscoutuk good move ditching Ben elton too, although he was a great writer for blackadder and young ones it didn't work here, I loved planers character, wish he'd of gone to bottom with them instead of christopher Ryan who's about as funny as an undertaker with toothache, the way they nuanced the eddie and Richie characters for bottom was genius, edmonsons "bodyguard" to a narcissist with delusions of grandeur was weak and just filled with perpetual toilet humor, much better when they were both just hapless degenerate incels lol
@@lastboyscoutuk The VHS and DVD of FR&C versions were cut for musical rights . Cuts included Richie singing "Where Is Love?", "Morning Has Broken", and "Consider Yourself"; and Eddie singing "Roxanne", "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two", and "Message in a Bottle". I’m sure everyone in The Light Entertainment Department of the BBC agrees with your communistic views of distributing the wealth. I would pay a pretty penny (a fiver) for an uncut version. If i knew it went to the Rik estate and all the other artists involved. :p
