This is the final Channel mission of the JG 1/51 in my "duration of the war" campaign that I created on the Pat Wilson Campaign Generator (PWCG). I'm trying to fly through the whole war with just one squadron, and after this we get sent to Russia. This one should have been an easy run, but after diving on a flight of returning bombers, I end up getting hit, and burning out my engine. I end up having to parachute out, over the Channel.
Now, knowing the incredible pilot recovery operations the Germans had, this was not too big of a problem. The pilots would either be picked up by nearby ships, or else they would make their way to a buoy, that had food, and shelter. The pilot would put up the flag, indicating that the buoy was occupied and a German recovery ship would get the pilot.
I took a short leave after this mission, just 15 days, but when I returned the squadron had moved to Russia to support Operation Barbarossa.
