LOVE the Hue/Sat trick! I hadn't thought of that! And, thanks for excellent Motion tutorials. I learn from every one of those. Tip: Dragging an audio level up and down adjusts that level in a coarse manner. Hold the CMD key while dragging and that 'gears down' the drag where you can see the change in the audio level move 1db at a time. Holding the CMD key while dragging numbers in the Inspector works in many instances as well. Once in a while, I decide that the audio level of an entire edit is too low. I'll select ALL in the timeline and press CTL-(plus or minus) and that will change all audio levels 1db at a time from their original location. It will NOT force all levels to be the same. The relative levels are protected. The technique only changes their relative position. For example, a clip with a dip in the middle will still have the dip in the middle. I also use the CTL-(plus or minus) on clips sometimes instead of CMD-Drag to gear down the audio adjustment but I can tap-tap-tap fast and see where the audio meter moves to as fast as turning a volume knob. One of my favorite tricks in the Inspector is that if you right-click on the empty space to the right of the name of that section ('Transform', for example) you can select ADD and all parameters in that section gets a keyframe. It's how I edit 360º video the fastest. In 360º you should set everything in that panel to have a keyframe even if you think they don't need a keyframe or else you'll be driven crazy with unexpected results if you skip some parameters. I see that 'Timeline Scrolling' is listed in the Command Set but has no key(s) assigned. It would be much faster (like just pressing 'N' for toggling Snapping) if I assign that action to a key. Maybe you'll have a suggestion as to what key(s) would be a good choice in a future video. Even with Snapping on, you can select a edge to video or audio and use the period and comma keys to change that edge one frame at a time. I haven't tried it with snapping turned off to see if it will change audio one/eightieth of a frame at a time. If a whole clip is selected, the period and commas will change the position of the clip one frame at a time because video, as we know, cannot move one/eightieth of a frame. Thank you for a great video!

It's a bummer that FCP doesn't have keyboard shortcuts built in to switch between workspaces, BUT if you do it in your system preferences, you can! I now use my custom keyboard shortcuts ALL the time. for example i use cntrl-cmd = for my "standard", cntrl-cmd / for my "Large Screening", and cntrl-cmd * for "multiangles" (notice the num pad correlation). It has made working in FCP so much better!! Every time i try to use adjustment layers they glitch out on me, ive tried 2 different ones, maybe ill try the one you linked. That keyframes, which i didn't know you could do is sweet! Thanks as always for the tips!

Hello Jen, I'm interested in purchasing your Rockstar course. Question- Is this course a one-time view or will have future access to go back and watch again for a refresher? Also, will there be a place I can message someone if I have questions during the course? I did ask this same comment in one of your older videos. Thought place here since this is a newer video Eric, Black Swan Odysseys RU-vid channel.

I think you can select many clips and change the volume for all of them the same time. Choose Modify > Adjust Volume, then choose Up or Down, or press Control-Plus Sign (+) or Control-Minus Sign (-)

Thanks! I like how you keep the pace and learning curve just right even though I spent a few years in iMovie. Your tutorials are just right for making the switch pretty painless.

Lots of subtle and very useful tips that I discovered. I also like the transition title that you certainly did on motion.

Another excellent video. The freeze/hold frame conundrums gets me every time because I don't use either option often. Sir, when I do want to freeze/hold, I have to go searching around for the advantages/disadvantages of both. Your wisdom is very much appreciated over here in Scotland - always. Love the red shirt!

I am deeply convinced that a compound clip is the best solution when you use b-rolls and non-voice elements, because with non-linear editing if you have many fragments, you will either miss one or get tired of painting(cropping, scale etc) them all at whole time-line. When you use a compound clip, you can done this in 1 click and in 1 place. By the way you can use the adjustment layer inside the compound if you need it. When you need to grade a video separately, you can use a reference new parent clip

If you press and hold the N button you can turn Snapping off then while hold now the button. Do your trimming then when finished release and the timeline will jump back to Snapping.

There were lots of useful tips. One question I've wanted to ask is how are you backing up all the important content. Using my M1 Mac pro laptop, I started with a 1 terabyte SSD, then 2 T and more recently 4 T SSD. If I missed a previous video, please share a link or consider talking about it.

Oooooh storage, the bane of everyone's existence. We're currently in the process of moving our media to an in house server. I do plan to do a video once we're all set up and the bugs are worked out.

You might want to try disabling each of these settings: background render, create optimized media and create proxy media in settings. This will keep FCP from using up gigabytes of unnecessarily wasted space. You might also consider selecting "leave files in place" instead of "copy to library storage location." All these settings have saved me from chewing up endless HD space. They are in FCP settings, under Playback and Import. Besides all that I offload completed libraries/projects onto external drives. Hope that helps!

I will try those revised settings. I know I often duplicate large files because I lose track of where video or still images are.
