This is the final day of the old terminal at the KCI Kansas City International airport. As of tomorrow ( February 28th 2023) the old terminals ( B & C ) will no longer be in operation and the airport will swap over to being a single terminal. This is just a video documenting the old airport as it will be demolished in the future. The new 1.5 billion dollar new terminal opens tomorrow.
Thank you for documenting this. The old terminals is a piece of our history. I am sad to hear they are demolishing it. I hope others document this or share.
My favorite part about the old terminals were the tunnels. At the new terminal there are no tunnels or bridges; everybody has to cross the street to get from parking to the terminal. But then again if you're willing to do that it's convenient because you can go from your parking floor directly to departures level. And if it's raining you can just enter the building through the arrivals level instead. I love how at the new terminal there are plenty of restrooms and food behind security, and you can walk to a different gate without exiting security.
I enjoyed the old terminals as well. It was so easy to get from the parking lot to going through TSA. I think it's going to take much longer now that we are moving to just having one terminal.
I flew out of there a month ago and I likened the experience to seeing something that needs put out of its misery. I know MCI was never "nice" but it was a great home base for a long time. But my last experience was bad. It probably would make a decent fallout shelter now
@@JayHey2323 yea and they stopped doing like all maintenance/cleaning in the terminal as well. The bathrooms were absolutely filthy. Guess they didn't care at all in the end. Also all the vending machines were removed as well as most of the seating. I know we needed a new updated terminal, but I'm still a bit sad to see the old one not being used anymore. Can't wait to see the new one in person though ! Haha a fallout shelter is right. The old terminal had such brutalist architecture and very thick concrete.
Not to mention 1 security check and tsa agent for 400 people. It seemed as if 1 in every 10 people in the security line as about to miss their flight that morning.
I won't miss the old airport terminals because it was dated, but I will miss the convenience that it had. No longer will you be able to pull up a short time before your flight takes off and still be able to make your flight.
Very true. I will miss the convenience factor of the old terminal. From parking lot to the gate it probably had one of the quickest times of any airport in the US.
@@jjsjeffjjsjeffyea that's why we always used the parking garage to park. I know the other lots are cheaper though. The new airport has 6200 parking spaces, but it's a bit more expensive to leave your car there.
It is bittersweet to see the old terminals be not used and get demolished this summer. The new terminal has some growing pains right now, but once we get past those it should be decent. Right now there are issues I've read about bathrooms not having toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. Also getting up to the airport to drop someone off I heard has been a nightmare. Probably best to park in the parking garage now instead.
My friends grandpa actually worked on construction on the terminals so he definitely is sad to hear they will be torn down. Lot of history in those old terminals.
NotTheAverageGamerz what will happen to B and C fallowing closure . Eventually, both terminals will be razed to make room for aircraft parking and expansion. Both garage will be retained. B garage will be for employees.
