The first thing i was told by yoshi p was to not hold dawntrail in the same regard as endwalker. So i didnt. I think thats what helped me not be so glum about the ending being odd as it was as its probably going to be used in the next patches/expansion to consolidate things.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, can at least in the final-final boss fight of the expansion (without patches), WoL enjoy some good ol' 1v1 with the big bad without Wuk cutting in and stealing all the thunder because she is somehow supercharged with "friendship"? Why her only? No mention of Kryle or Graha "my-fervent-wish-to-be-with-WoL-and-help-them" Tia?! Sorry lads, Dawntrail being "low stakes" and "vacation filler expansion" doesn't justify making fight scenery THIS bad.

I wasn't expecting the final boss to be a killer machine akin to HAL 9000/AM. Now I'm gonna look at all the cutscenes for context.

I feel like this story was really bad... For me, the start being slow was fine, but the final map was just terrible. Cahciua asks us to delete/end all the endless so that Sphene has nothing left to fight for. So we go through six hours of sidequests getting to know the endless and how human and real they are, just to kill them all despite them having all the components that make up a real person, just to... Not tell Sphene about it, and it doesn't even matter? Why did we do all of those quests in the final area, why not just turn off/delete Cahquia to free her? What was the point of any of that? Why does the map have to permanently stay looking all dead? I get that the theme is letting go, but like... Didn't Endwalker and Ultima Thule already do that in a way that makes sense? Why did we need a theme about accepting death and a world-ending threat out of absolutely nowhere in what we were told would be a summer vacation full of adventures with no world ending threats? I'm so lost...

Regardless of how we feel about the dawntrail msq...THE PACING IS ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS... im struggling to decided if i personally think its the worst story of all the expansions...but it does get credit for actually being the first expansion to make me skip msq content since pre nerf arr.... i remember around the middle of the cooking trial thinking to myself...damn in a game where i like fighting shit in the mid 90s i think ive killed like 3 things...it sounds good on paper a chill vacation expansion where the world isnt in danger...but turns out that just leads to you doing chores...

Although I enjoyed all the call backs to FF9 (Sphene is also the name of stone, just like Garnet, Alexandria taking the place of the Terran civilization; which is a total inversion of the original FF9 ethics, where the players were put against Garland, who was trying to resurrect his lost civilization at the cost of yours, and now we see the FFXIV Garnet put in his shoes; the whole throne contest just being another Festival of the Hunt), I would prefer for the story to be just about you going on the whole throne contest and having fun with the Scions. Valigarmanda could be the final boss for as much as I care. But still, they fell for the same trap hole from Shadowbringers. Well, the whole souls and energy kinda sets up for Jenova, Kuja and Necron (which is my bet for the final boss, because of its comparison to Exdeath and because Krile's journey need a new nemesis). We still have to see the plot behind the Arcadion and the post-MSQ quests. Also, the trials could bring some surprises. It is still too early to dismiss what kind of surprises Dawntrail can bring. Wuk Lamat replaying Gaia (weird, because it is the name of blue planet from FF9) also makes sense, people forgot the first new ultimate trial will be Futures Rewritten (aka Eden's raids)? TL;DR: This MSQ is just the first part of the story. Is it a filler? I agree. Is it a filler for FFIX fans? I do not know, because I felt satisfied with all the bits and chips FFXIV manages to throw at us. Even the first boss of the first dungeon is a Abaddon from FFIX. And we still got the Dawn Warriros and Relm. I mean, all I need is a fight against big Kuja in his fake nude clothes and Terra's Theme orchestrion roll. Also Oeilvert as a dungeon. Edit 2: The storyline problem comes from the fact that it is actually a reverse Uno card played on the adventurer: in the words of Sphene, what would you do to save your people? The Adventurer basically went on a war against whatever was in front of his/her objectives to protect Eorzea, but what if we have to face the same dilemma that Sphene faced? Save your people and kill everyone else, or let everyone die and save the ones you do not know? This problem takes basically the entirety of the MSQ to surface, hence why everyone is complaining.

Weirdly weak attempt at... gospel music? And possibly the most saccharine ending wrap-up so far in the MSQ. This was a straight up 90s Disney Channel TV movie of a story. Like this is some Free Willy stuff right here, except MJ did a better gospel song. I'm not even mad at the voice acting. I've played Trails of Cold Steel, so I've already heard what rock bottom can sound like. I'm mad at the _writing_. The dialog is repetitive and insistent and matcha latte has like three things to say in the whole game: her feelings about papa, her feelings about her people, and "I want to learn about you!" This cat girl is serving serious kid Naruto vibes.

My first time hearing this scene in EN. The "I understand" sounds so fake and disingenuous, it literally sounds like the character is being passive-aggressive. Absolute tonal whiplash compared to JP. No wonder why people who played in EN are hating her character.

This sucks but endwalker was awesome. Don’t know why people saying they hate it. Also I like stormbloods atmosphere along with the Zenos fight.

I've never been so disappointed in the MSQ, it was just bad. I don't care about the new continent, everyone is so happy and just gets along then Wuk is the best ever, all that makes her come off as Poochie Uzumaki wanting to be the next hokage while my WoL is just a background character

Being negative is fine and so is being positive. But good god do you guys blow it up. Yes dawntrail might not be their best work i wont say it is. I still enjoyed it well enough tho. Play or dont i couldnt care less personaly. But let people enjoy what they enjoy. Or atleast have a discussion about what could be done better or whatever else instead of making the community look bad like the vocal minority tends to do.

For all the people hating on 7.0; just reminding you, there are literally starting a whole new arc, is like expecting the best at the beginning. I’m not going to say is the best or amazing, becase it fucking isn’t; SQNX has been known for their great titles which can not and will never be compared to 7.0, not only FF many other stuff, but they are no perfect, so I think that I can have the same patience I had to have for the characters to grow and the story to solidify like I had to in 1.0 onward. Again, not their best, but I have faith, I love this game and I know it has potential. I want to walk the journey and see what lies ahead, a great adventure maybe? there is only one way to find out. Endwalker's awful pacing and generally awful storytelling was enough to stop me from pre-ordering this expansion, and I'm so glad I made that decision. From an awful story to awful voice acting, it repeats a lot of the same mistakes of Endwalker but somehow ends up making said mistakes five times worse. I can see why this getting slammed by players (and being hilariously defended by apologists) on Steam. Here's hoping for the mostly negative score it definitely deserves. Not going to lie, if TWW comes out with a better story and content, it would be a hilarious kick to the teeth that the FFXIV community desperately deserves.

Really happy with this whole expansion, after how bad Shadowbringers and Endwalker were its nice to actually enjoy the game again.
