The final fantasy renaissance starting with 14s success after heavensward after remake came out and now 16 is keeping the faith going by raising it to new heights in yoshi we trust

@@OfficialDjTalksick that's much too early. heavensward was decent, but let's not forget the issues that plagued FFXV and it's dlc. Stormblood also received a relatively mixed reception. FF began returning to form with Shadowbringers in 2019 followed by 7 Remake and Endwalker in each consecutive year. XVI is the first completely new FF tho. that's what makes it a milestone

I didn’t know XII wasn’t received well, that’s one of my favorites. Was it the series stepping away from turn based?

@@andygarcia5270 I can't recall if that was a factor, but it was mostly hate for the "main" character Vaan, nobody liked him and felt he didnt belong, the battle/gambit system was certainly new it any mainline FF title to some, people weren't fond of the license system and folks also didnt like the fact that the summons names were all changed from the series staples like Ifrit and Shiva, which were then just made airships. These were some of the main issues I believe

i know people are tired of remakes but i would really like to see proper modern remakes of 8 and 9 too

SoP literally had Nioh gameplay and was cheesy af but even though I thought the plot wasn't that great the insanity of Jack just giving zero fucks about anything other than killing chaos was great.

Omg I’ve said this exact same thing in my circles. It feels very much like 13+15 (in good ways for me) with a story similar to 6+9+12. No one agrees with me tho lmao. My best friend thought I was insane saying there’s any similarities between 15 but to me 16 feels like a natural progression for the series (and besides 11+14 I’ve played and replayed every game in the series after 7R came out so they’re fresh in my mind lol)

Pretty much. I'll still buy the game even though my only gripe with it is that the party members are AI controlled and you are only using Clive. I wish could be able to use Dion or Barnabas.

Disagree. It was SLOPPY and unfinished, but far FAR from sucked.

It didn't suck , but its a farcry from what it could have been because to this day versus 13 looks more interesting. If they at least released the last 3 pieces of dlc it wouldn't have stung as hard. All these fucking none game media , all these expensive ass ad campaigns, and they couldn't deliver the last 3 pieces of dlc so they made them into a novel ?

​@@goddamnarshia I kinda find the "what it could have been" argument to be bullshit to be honest. Comparing reality versus the hype that our imaginations can conjure is always going to be a disappointment if you aren't very careful. Versus 13 could have been a masterpiece or it could have been an unfinished mess. It could have been the best videogame that would ever be made. We won't know because it was never finished, and the fact that it was never finished is enough to conclude that maybe some flashy concept trailers don't indicate that a product is going to live up to hype. Nomura is extremely good at stories that set up thought-provoking questions but much less consistent at delivering satisfying answers. Again, the fact that Versus 13 never materialised as a finished product indicates that maybe the hype wasn't exactly built on solid foundations. Not that I disagree that cancelling the DLC was a shit move, consumer-wise. I think the DLC for XV are some of the best parts of the experience. I would've loved to see more of it. But again, it's completely asinine to compare a real product to a hypothetical built on hype.

Versus 13 never materialized because it's dev team was constantly getting pulled away for other projects, so it never entered full production until it got changed to 15. And because of what we know of the original project compared to the final game, we can get a read in the potential that was lost. The project was originally supposed to be a trilogy. When it became 15 they had to cut it down to a single game, and then it got even further watered down when Tabata replaced Nomura as director and changed the major themes and tone of the game. As 15 stands now it's clearly just a completely different game wearing the husk of versus's plot. No wonder that the main plot is generally seen negatively when they basically shoved it aside in favor of focusing on the bro roadtrip, which wasn't ever stated as a major theme until Tabata came on board. And don't get me wrong, i like 15 more than most and forgive it for its flaws, bit damn is it easy to see the remnants of what could have been a really good story.
