These sales figures are only Japan and physical copies. The sales are dramatically better than what’s on here. It will come out on PC even and then sell a ton too. Square is doing just fine.

There is NO purpose to list physical / digital separately still, I really wish they would stop doing that already. Just add them up and list the entire amount(s)...

As I've said before, the ambiguity of "remake or sequel" turns away players. Most think it's a remake. Only when I tell people it's a sequel do they pay close enough attention to plot details to realize it is. Not surprised that sales reflect the actual attention fans have. When you are determined to hide a great story, you just might succeed. Just show Doomguy saving Aerith, and 50 million will come.

you missed an important details : 1. FF7 Remake come out during Covid-19 lockdown where everybody were at home, that is why it sold well... 2. the chart you showing at 5:42, is only physical sales, well you forgot the digital sales, PS2 and PS3 had almost very low digital sales compared to now PS4 and PS5 almost 80% of game sales are digital... YOU NEED CONTEXT 😮‍💨

This sounds like a false narrative. The game literally sold out on multiple websites not to mention was the most anticipated release in a while. They really need to stop comparing it to games that aren’t nearly as good or anticipated like FF16.

I don't know about digital, but in Northern Mexico and probably the whole country, Delux edition was solud out and even probably oversold, and the starndard edition basically cleared out in the first couple of days and took about 4 days to be restocked, I even laughed that the official North American SquareEnix web page had a message saying that Rebirth was in stock again, meaning their physical standar version. So, probably in Japan is not selling well, it seems in Mexico it sold well regardless of economy here. I too have heard people saying they will wait until the trilogy is completed, because they want to wait as less as possible, some even mention they will start playing as soon as the third one has an stablished release date. I guess Final Fantasy is not getting results in Japan because, from their perspective, is cattering too much to western and not to Japan's tastes, but that is just an opinion, might be wrong.

Also websites deleting user rating, like metacritic, it had 7.5 user raiting at one point. All of them deleted, my included. I write in review what I like about a game and what I dislike, honest review with rating 7, it was removed. I am 40 hours, the game is boring, filled with boring open world and minigames that are not fun.

I tried to bring this topic up in reforge gaming channel and got ansolutely jumped on for it. I own all consoles, idc about fanboy wars...was trying to have an actual discussion as to why ff is on a downward trend in japan...but how dare i question the blue brand is what i got.

The rise of Mobile gaming in Japan. Hard to get Ps5 due to the Pandemic and the 70$ price tag is really hard for people. And gaming right now due to the economy is like a luxury. IMO cuz instead of spending 74 $ that is tax included we pay for like food and bills

Japan is no longer the golden land for gaming. Between their aging population and the death of home consoles in favor of portable gaming. The data is not surprising. There is a reason why many of the news of degenerates spending 6 digits of USD on micro-transactions comes from Japan… or at least it did in the beginning and that part of the issue is worldwide now.

The deluxe copy of the game is sold out everywhere though, and that is obviously because of the huge demand. You'd figure this would be a wake up call for their marketing team. It's a no brainer they'd be getting much higher sales if they only had a larger supply of the extra content that comes with the deluxe version. The standard copy is available pretty much anywhere meaning what people really want is the deluxe version. Unlike the PS5 with their excuse of the chip shortage, Square Enix has absolutely no excuse for the shortage of deluxe copies. They brought those sales numbers on themselves really.

I never played the original ff7. My intro to the ff7 world was remake. So nostalgia is not a factor in my decision for saying Rebirth is game of the year. Its story is gripping. The characters and their relationships feel real. And the gameplay is incredible. What more could you ask for in a game?

Also have to consider that this is a PS5 only game, and the PS5 has an all digital version on the market. Even the new Slim is marketed as primarily digital with the ‘option’ for a disc drive. Meaning anyone who owns a digital PS5 is not counted here. We did not have an all digital PS4 and digital sales in general have skyrocketed in the last half decade since FF7 Remake released. Hard to really gauge actual sales here so I would be curious.

People looking at Helldivers 2 and pal world prices at 40 and 30 and both of them in sale in a month you start to question 70 bucks those all game wants

I know it's not an exact science about how a games has sold, but I like to look at number of ratings for a game (on PS store in UK for me). FFVII has 17k reviews so far and compare that to another top 10 selling game in UK of Hell Divers 2, which has had 39k review to date. Obviously to make a review score for PS you need to have purchased a copy of the game. This is my first ever play of a FF game and I don't know the story of this one, so avoiding spoilers (especially major ones), loving the game so far and taking my time doing some grinding and exploring before progressing the story - my usual game play style for these kind of games

Loved the first remake this one is a mixed bag has some good parts but the ending Is awful and it has alot of bloated out parts.

It came out squished between Helldivers 2 and the banger trailer of Stellar Blade. Helldivers 2 was an anomaly, no one expected it to be as huge as it is, and Stellar Blade literally got more pre-orders than FF7 Rebirth on the Playstation Store. Pair that with the resentment of many fans and the issues people have with the censorship and content that was omitted from the original game, plus all the story changes, and destruction of FF7 Crisis Core (Crisis what? What game? Oh right, that did come out, how'd it do? Oh grief.. Oh dear.. Man, they fucked the pooch on that one, didn't they). Then there's the whole "Oh, just buy the complete edition in like a few years.", like, why buy a game twice? It'll be cheaper, it'll likely have more content, there might be a collector's edition box set thing or whatever, etc etc. Plus, it'll probably go on sale for like $15, so you'll save even more by waiting, and you'll give them as little as your money as possible (or just ask for it as a gift and voila, broski got you the game for free, got a random relative who comes around during christmas, there's your money for the complete collection, and you didn't pay them squat). FFXVI for example had even lower sales than what was projected in Japan, many people stated that it was because of how far it was straying from the core franchise's identity.

The game is great but they tremendously ruined the ending. The "unknown" journey, more like the totally known journey with pointless changes that were completely underutilized.

people are probably waiting for the pc release... considering this game is just part 2 of a trilogy series, no one is in a rush to play it...heck some may even wait for the trilogy to be released and buy them all together.

i think part 3 will come out sooner since a lot of that game uses the same locations so i think it'll come out 2026 / early 2027 also covid delayed ff7 pt 1

Game sales have fallen in general the past decades actually. Not sure what the reason is exactly, but in say PS2 and PS3 era many games could expect to sell around 10 million or more, while today this is a rarity, even for multi platform games. Even reaching 5 million sales is considered good these days, and well, it is good, but well selling games in the past would sell way more copies than well selling games today.

If this wasn’t a remake and was a original final fantasy idea or story this game will probably be goty but the fact that games have to do remakes because the ideas and vision of these game developers aren’t what it used to be to be. How is it a 30 year old game is still so popular while the new ones barely get the same hype example 13 15 and 16 will never get remakes 30 years from now

16 was one of my fav games of 2023, straight up action, amazing combat, epic boss battles, amazing characters and story. Rebirth isn’t for me, for the one who love it enjoy but for me it’s a boring checklist snooze fest game. Lots of my friends skipped it as well.

Unlucky launch for them. Everyone is hooked on hell divers for the time being. However the original FF7 only grew in sales a lot over the years. I expect as curiousity and good reviews grow so will sales for FF7 rebirth. I’ll literally develop brain damage if FF16 ends up with more sales overall than rebirth

Hearing that FF7 Rebirth failed has me thrilled. If the idiots at Square Enix are smart, they would look at Nintendo's next gen system as a possibility to bring the FF7R games to it. Right now, FF7R sales in Japan didn't do s*** to save Square or PS in Japan in terms of boosting hardware sales. Why, because Nintendo dominates in Japan and Sony is keeping Square Enix chained to their dog leash. Them just throwing money into their dog bowl hoping they'll eat more of it just so they can stay with them, instead of being with the Japanese studio (Nintendo) dominating in the Japanese territory with their fans. Here's something interesting that everyone should be talking about more of. Square developed Super Mario RPG Remake with Nintendo. A 1 to 1 faithful remake with some QoL improvements to the traditional JRPG gameplay, etc. A game that fans love and wanted a remake of. We got it! In the game's first week in Japan, A remake like that sold over 301,000 in Japan alone. Beating FF7 Rebirth's 260,000 first week numbers. A reimagining like Rebirth couldn't do s*** in Japan and Sony's stranglehold on FF and Square shows that Japanese fans don't want a super drastic change of a so-called classic like FF7. No ones wants a westernized FF game. Where Square has had more successes with their RPGs with Nintendo, Sony's tight grip on Square and any new FF and westernizing it has resulted in failure and failure.

This game is disappointing…. It looks great I am enjoying the story they have filled in. My disappointment is we waited 4 years and where this part 2 ends I expected it to move a little further into the story. Now we have to wait another 4 years for part 3 I am almost losing interesting and rather go play the OG. I feel like they should have dropped this then drop 3-4 dlc charge $20 each and drop 1 a year it would keep everyone’s interest and finish the game that way. Without digital numbers this is still speculation. But being the second part of a trilogy, and not an autonomous sequel, basically limits your sales to the pool of buyers of the first part. Not a good strategy

GOOD! I hope the game and the ReMake series fails. They ruined the Original Story and this new Story on it's own sucks and is full of padding and filler. Only the Early Access shills gave it a good review. Now that regular people are getting there hands on it you notice those Meta Critic scores are dropping. Went from a 96 overall to a 90 and I think it will end up bottoming out somewhere in the mid to low 80's after it's all said and done. Serves em right... Hopefully they learn there lesson from this, even though I doubt they will.

To me, FFXVI selling more is very sad and depressing... it most likely mean that future games in the series will go the route of linear action games, with super serious vibes and no exploration, rather than the fun open world exploration RPG focused systems of Rebirth... 😢

Ff is not doing ok in japan due to japanese culture my guy. Japan’s work culture and high peer pressure among the kids makes these games not do great. That’s why portable games are doing great there because they could bring it with them in travels. Even their birth rate is declining so it’s not a surprise.

This is exactly why people should not hype up Rebirth too much and expect this game to succeed. Because if they find out that the sales aren't performing well at all, then they're gonna get pissed off and blame the companies for XYZ. Only reason why people are saying this game is good is due to nostalgia, which is the ONLY reason why the ratings were even high on Metacritics according to Journalists. That's literally it. Like at this point, Sony should just buy Square Enix and let them handle future FF games going forward.
