Yes, you must win first place in every race. However, for the Gold Cup in particular, you just have to win first place overall, so you can still make it if you get second in one of them.
Queensblood could get away with being it's own game too. And I kinda hope they release a mobile version of it so I can play wherever. They really cooked.
Why does this minigame within a much larger game look like its on par with most dedicated kart racer games? Lol. Wild. I'd never go as far to say as better than Mario Kart, but it certainly looks better than a lot of the knockoffs of Mario Kart.

Honestly.. I don't get the complains about this mini-game. The others mini-games are awful, but chocobo race is one of the easiest. OFC in order to win easy, you need to visit completely most of the places in the game to obtain the gear which is.. fearly easy as well. You only need Pico (yellow chocobo), and this gear : Shinra Avian Helmet, Hyperion’s Armor & Mystical Anklets. Easy win.
Finally, someone who gets it! Louder for the ones in the back talking about how “optional” these challenges are! A lot of the mini games should have offered better rewards that had something to do with either the character using them or the game itself
