Final Fantasy IX: Freya's Theme (Extended) 

Aside from her striking and extremely well-done visual design, Freya is unique in being a character of many strange opposite extremes. She's an anthropomorphic rat, who dresses in noble/aristocratic clothing. She's a warrior by profession, but a lover at heart. She's a lady, but also a soldier. Her sleek clothing and armor yells Dashing Swashbuckling Hero, but in personality she is the exact inverse. Somber, self-reflective, reserved, pensive, and quiet.

For those who doesn't know, in Final Fantasy IX you progressively play as a set of characters with a theme in particular, all surrounding the anxiety of nothingness. Sounds heavy, but the game manages to produce a light-hearted atmosphere. By the time you hear this track, you're slowly unveilling a conspiracy when, all of a sudden, a local war ensues; people are dying, families get separated, buildings show the decay from fights to death... all under the rain.

I feel like Freya is too underrated. She was one of my favorite characters and a mainstay in my party.

Freya's theme is so lovely. She's a great character as well I just wish she had more to her character arc through the game.

The sound of nobility and integrity trying to shine through unimaginable tragedy - and the determination to keep living through it afterwards. FF9 OST is enchanting.

I really like Freya's character, with no doubt the most tragic in FFIX. She has spent five years searching for her lost love, only to find he doesn't remember about her. She comes back to her homeland and find it devastated, with the dead bodies of her comrades scattered everywhere. She watches powerless the destruction of Cleyra, and the instant death of almost all the survivors. Yet, she remains so humble and elegant. And proves to be a kickass Dragon Knight. She seeks no revenge against Beatrix, the one who led the assault on Burmecia and Cleyra. But joins the forces with her just to cover Garnet's retreat from Alexandria's castle! Wish the game could have focused more on her, especially after Disc 2.

This song makes me want to replay this game so much.

A word to describe FFIX? CHARISMATIC. Really, every place and every character, with their singular themes... It is a perfect fantasy. They created a fantastic world that is still in our hearts...

God how I wish I could play Final Fantasy IX for the first time once more. There was something so fantastic and magical about the first play through of any game, but this one...god this game blew everything out of the water for me. I doubt I'll ever play a game as captivating for the first time through ever again like this one.

Every time I see/hear anything about Final Fantasy IX I just wanna cry happy tears... This is such an amazing game

Freya is the reason I started Final Fantasy XIV as a dragoon.

Freya is a character that will reside close to my heart. Her theme always brought me comfort and I always find myself humming the tune when it's raining. I have always had a strong attachment to Freya as I always felt the sorrow that she experienced for her conquest to find Sir Fratley; her conquest to reach her resolve. She's an inspiring character, and Freya's Theme is everything that you would expect that reflects her determination to push through anguish.

Freya's my favorite character, personally. I love everything about her. I love her character design, I love her back-story, and I love how powerful she is. The bit where she tells Beatrix that she can never forgive her sins against her kinsman sent shivers down my spine. She's a tragic character. She lost everything. Her home, her people, and her lover. I love that. I love how sad her story is. It's very moving.

This game is quickly becoming one of my favorite Final Fantasy's. I'm on my first passthrough and the whole theme of it and art style is nothing short of inspiring.

Final Fantasy 9 is the last and the best masterpice of squaresoft

This audio is hella clean for being 11 years old.

I love how this song builds from its initial harpsichord notes to adding a clarinet/flute with the main melody, producing a very melancholic emotion, to the addition of staccato strums of the strings, and eventually a powerful organ which transforms the song from a lonely and sad little strain into a heroic and almost triumphant ballad at its climax, before bringing it down again to repeat its loop.

I just wanted to say how glad I am to see so many awesome comments about FFIX. When I was younger, so many of my friends didn't like it, when it quickly became my favourite final fantasy.

It's raining...

I dunno what it is about Freyja that makes me love her as a character the way I do. The music?The aspect of being forgotten by your loved one?Her appearance?Her style?Or that she is named after a Goddess of such as War,Beauty and Love. I dunno.But I really do think Freyja is the most beautiful and perfected female character in the FF Series in terms of her entire being.

Look up in the sky is it a bird? Is it an airship? No it's a spear to the throa-BHAGH.

This by far is the greatest track ever composed of any Final Fantasy game. There are many memorable tracks but this one still touches my heart the same way it did the first time i heard it. There is a sense of power but at the same time you can feel the pain behind that. If you have played the game and know Freya's story, the track fits her so fucking perfectly besides how beautiful the track is without any backstory.

All the music from this game is gorgeous, but this is just another level of beautiful.

This song has so much passion behind it. it really does represent freya, but also the sadness around her and her country. and listening to it through gizamalukes grotto is just amazing.

I LOVE Freya so much. She's my absolute favorite character!~

I like Freya, Vivi and Quina.

You can almost hear her soul crying out, worried that she'll be forgotten . Her comrades, gone, but forever reamined as a memory within Freya. She, in my opinion, harbored the most pain than anyone could have. Not until Zidane showed her the way that even with memories, you can still honor their dreams and hopes.

I really love this theme. It tells so much about the character without a single word. A tragic past, a strong sense of justice and loyalty, all hidden beneath the frailty of a female. It's a beautiful song where you can feel all that; it has that heroic tune, yet with a very melancholic vibe.

Oh man oh man oh man.. These pieces of music where masterpieces.

Freya's theme may be my all time favorite piece of music. Such a wide range of emotions evoked in a mere four and a half minutes. It's a masterpiece, imo.

The 10 seconds between 1:51-2:01 are so damn good.

Such a great character, in my eyes the most level headed of them all and tragically underdeveloped.

This theme perfectly fits Freya: Cool and collected, but hidden underneath that exterior is damage and sorrow that ultimately becomes dominant, only for a glimmer of hope to overpower it just for a short bit--as if there's a moment for everything to be better, but if you blink, you'll miss it.

Just listen to this along rain song. It's magical and brings you back to those good old days we played Final Fantaxy IX and arrived in Burmecia for the first time. Oh the feels!

One of my favorite FF characters. I hope she can be playable in more crossovers in the future.

Freya is just wonderful and one of my favorite characters in ff9 and in the series besides cloud! She is elegant and masterful with her spear! Even her battle style is elegant! There is a sadness that surrounds her but a strength the drives her! She is amazing!

The music of ff-6-7-8-9-10 is the greatest video game music ever made. period

Upon hearing this again, I think it's time for a replay. IX was a good game. Great music too, Rose of May was always a favorite along with this.

Brilliant theme, sound's very medieval. Loved Freya as a kid, thought she looked weird as hell but I always loved the spear users. As I got older and learned more about Norse mythology I realised I'm slightly obsessed about the name, If I ever have a daughter you can guess what I am going to call her...Billie.

Man i still break out my original ps and play this game after all these years. Great story, some awesome music throughout the game and I really enjoyed the ability system.

Kind of fascinating how the intro for the game starts as a theatre ship acting crew prepares to present a play before Princess Garnet. However under the guise they planned to kidnap her, yet she was planning to escape the castle. Each of the characters wore a mask of sort, as some story that made up that character. The plot plays out just like theatre with archetypes of characters. The ending reminded me so much of the sequels of Mad Max, when Zidane stayed behind at the Iifa tree, except Zidane came back months later. Leave it Square soft to leave details up to the players interpretation. I never really explained how Zidane got out if there when the place got caved in...

If that ff9 remake leak is actually true I really hope we get to see more of Freya's story

💜 This song brings me back to that scene on Burmecia on the stairs where Freya told Vivi that whatever he's about to learn about the Black Mages he can never unlearn, and Vivi's insistence that he needed to know.

the guitar rhythm intro to this song reminds me of the ending of ff8's "compression of time"

Oh, Freya. The character so underrated that she was even underrated by Square, and, in a painfully ironic twist, almost entirely forgotten by her own game. I love FFIX, it’s easily one of my favorite games ever, but the character with arguably the most potential was pretty much abandoned after the first hour of disc two...

This picture made me cry when I first saw it.... Dagger and Freya were the only characters I liked in 9. I played 20 years of FFXI.... and while I never played a dragoon, ever, I lvoe Dragoon and Lancer and I have no0thing but the deepest respect for those jobs. This picture, for me, is one of the most beautiful pieces of art I have ever seen. It sums up Dragoon for me in every way, and I was not expecting the emotional response I got, when I clicked this video. It was surprising, and pleasant, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am deadpan most of the time these days, It felt GOOD.

I really dug this particular character. Maybe I'm sounding foolish, but to me she's the female version of Auron from FFX. You may agree, you may disagree, but I can't help how I feel about her which is nothing but positive despite her overall hardship, burden and sorrow.

Can anyone else not get this theme out their heads? Its been over 20 years and I'll be on a run and still have this track in my head.
