To blow your mind some more: this easter egg is also a throwback to the original game. The very first quest in Final Fantasy I is to rescue Princess Sarah, and Jane happens to be the name of her mother.
Yup! That's why it's in here! There are a ton of throwbacks to earlier Final Fantasy games. Speaking of - I'm streaming every game over on Twitch from 1-15. Currently on 4!
Good thing I’ve play the first Final Fantasy game, I can feel the emotional connection. That might explain what there’s an ‘evil space wizard’ named “Garland”. In the first Final Fantasy, Garland kidnapped Princess Sarah. FF9 Garland destroyed Garnet/Dagger(/Sarah)’s home. By the way, did anyone notice the first part of FF9 battle theme sound like the FF1 battle theme. Like this Final Fantasy 9 trying to go back to the first Final Fantasy game.
This blew my mind... The very first time I played through this game (when it was new and I was a lot younger) I actually named Garnet "Sarah" because she reminded me of my aunt Sarah ( and because I wasn't very creative with names) To find out all these years later that I actually named her after her actual original birthname is amazing!
Sarah is also the name of the princess you rescue in Final Fantasy 1. Squaresoft wasn't kidding when they said FFIX is a throwback to the earliest days of the series.
Missildine Online! Its my joint fave game of all time. Strangely this game is a bit of a lost forgotten gem, it is the most critically acclaimed FF game of all time but it is never mention ed much nowadays
Gage Hamilton That's not the point: he meant FF games *developed* for those systems. As in FFX for the PS2 -> FFXV for the PS4. FFIX is now on the PS4, but that doesn't make it a PS4 title.
FF9 will always have a special place in my heart. My first and most beloved FF series to this date! Played it multiple times just for the sake of happy memories ❤
KN North from what I recall the games had a bizarre order of release so whilst I had 7&9 I never remember hearing about 6 at the time. 8 I simply couldn’t stand, it tried to take it self far too seriously but the mix of gun blades and radical characters totally opposed that concept.. my opinion of course.
@@Wanderingwalker-ke6mg 6 was 3 in America. I understand where you're coming from. It dies stand out as overly serious compared to 7, certainly compared to 9.
KN North yeah I’m in England so who even knows, I recall a popular 2D FF game but yeah 7&9 held the real “fanstasy” vibe, more so 9.. may have to reinstall them to my Xbox 😅
I wish there would be a IX-2 with individual tales for each character, but later combining them all into one major story. Much like how they did Final Fantasy IV After Years, but including a tale for the very much deserved Beatrix! :) An finally have Lani as playable, but of course not with her own tale.
Well, Square was considering a remake (same game but much more story) since one year after it's release, because they had to cut so much content due to time limitations. Hironobu Sakaguchi once said FF9 is his favorite and if he would be doing a sequel to a FF game it would be 9 .
For all the supposed "information" you state here, he doesnt seem very interested, ff7 has prequels and sequels in games, movies, etc.,FF4 has sequels, even FF13 has 3 games, and the one game that actually has a -2 is FFX-2. Now ff7 gets a remake and FFXV has expanded stories as well. So I don´t see that favorite love for 9.
Also, if anyone has trouble achieving this side quest when walking back and forth, once you reach the door before starting to walk the opposite direction, you won't hear the click noise until after the exclamation point is no longer over your head when reaching the door again, that is when you know you've walked far enough one direction before turning around to walk the opposite way. Hope this helps!
I really hope they remake this game.... I would love to know who Garnet's father was, that chiseled all these things into the Eidolon Wall, and a playable backstory to what led up to the destruction of Madain Sari. Was Garnet's father the leader of the summoner tribe or was it Eiko's grandfather? Just how powerful were they all, and what foes did they fight before Garland destroyed their village? A prequel perhaps...
This video is from 2014! Apologies if you don't dig the quality - it was one of the first big things I did on RU-vid. These videos are getting the most attention they've ever gotten, so enjoy the cringe!
Missildine Online! The video and its info are very nice. I didn't know if this from back when I played the game. "Mew-gle" and "Shiv-a" are funny. Probably going to be a running joke moving forward.
this is inteersting. Since it was suggested to me by the related videos (which has a lot of the youtube algorithm working for it) I guess the algorith finds it watchworthy for a lot of people all of a sudden :O
Wanted to do the quest for so long. Got lazy. You gave me that name I was wondering about for years in a fresh manner. Thank you pal, earned your blue thimb and sub :)
@@MiuXiu "A condescending prick" really?I've looked at alot of these comments and he seems really nice. Whenever someone mentions him pronouncing something wrong he makes a cheeky joking response but that's about it. "You'll get over it my child" thats so obviously a joke jesus. Also there is literally hundreds of of comments ridiculing his pronunciation its gotta be at least a bit frustrating on his end despite all that he's just having fun about it. No offence is meant by my comment I just think your being too harsh to the guy.
finished this today (no walkthroughs) & i only saw lani thrice, her appearance, dali & at the conclusion of the game. 40 hrs to complete. ps1. lovely game
The moment that mural says something about the a storm, and a wife and daughter, it reminded me of the first cutscene in the game. Thanks man. Wow, who would've thought, after all these years. Anyway, is removing Eiko and Garnet from the party a compulsory? Would've loved to hear Garnet's reaction (if it exists).
lmao, when ya discovered the text lines revolving a girl called sara i instantly thought about lili. funny thing though, in the english version she is called dagger. the german translatior put a lot of thoughts into the name of princess garnet. during the scene where she gives herself a new name, she is holding zidanes dagger which is called a Liliendolch in german (dolch meaning dagger). lilie => lili smart move eh? ^^
Lani leaves even with these party members (for me). I am still on the Hilda Guard 3 (don't have Invincible). Do you have to enter with Dagger first and then change party members? Or is it after Pandemonium?
I remember that Ozma used to appear on that wall, why isn't in on the wall anymore? :o Also information online says that Ozma used to be an eidolon that loose its form "AS SEEN IN THE EIDOLON WALL" The thing is... WHERE?
To me for FF favorites FF III, FF VII (Of Course) FF IX, FF XII...But how Strange is it that RED XIII (FF VII) Lived in a Canyone similar to this one and then it looks like a red wolf with dark head on the Eidolon Wall, I Think FF games were meant for that Order i just listed my favorites, i know that's in accurate, but to me it seems like it, i still wish for a HD remake of FF III Cecil and Cain - Goblez, Tellah (Mastering Meteor) Definitely my top FF Favorite though by far..
In the english version theres actually a little scene where she is holding one of Zidanes daggers and asks him what it is called. When he tells her it is a dagger she decides to name herself after it lol
I don't get it. How are you supposed to know that the Jane and Sarah in that letter are referring to Brahne and Garnet? What is the clue that makes you think that? Please explain it to me cause I just don't get it.
Sorry it's been a looooong time since i've played FFIX so I forgot that Brahne isn't Garnet's real mother and I forgot about that opening cutscene. Now i'm curious as to who her father is! He's clearly the one that wrote that letter on the wall but no clue as to his identity. I guess if you want to get really meta you could say he's the king of Cornelia from the first Final Fantasy because his wife's name was Jane and his daughter's name was Sarah. You even rescue Sarah from Garland in that game and coincidentally there actually is a Garland in FFIX. I know it's most probably just the developers using names from past FFs to invoke nostalgia since FFIX was meant to be a love letter to all the previous FFs but I just like to imagine in my head that maybe this could be an alternate reality to FF1 where Garland doesn't kidnap Sarah in this timeline :P
That would be amazing - and honestly not even something I thought about! Square used to be so good with this type of stuff. I think her dad was just a summoner? I don't know though!
Missildine Online! What software do you use to edit your audio if any? Audacity? Also what do you use to record your games? Thanks...ff9 is my favorite
Nowadays I use the Elgato Capture Software or XSplit to record footage, audacity to record audio. And I edit everything in Premiere. During these videos - crap. haha
@@MissildineOnline Yeah =) sadly i lost my first save file due to some friend who had a beer too many and thought it would be funny to see how i reacted but yes. Her initial name for me was Shannon and changed it to Sarah once i found out. I have to admit for me FFIX is what turned me into a gamer in full and i was quite obsessed with the game.
I'm actually not sure - I've always kind of thought of it as the Madeen eidolon or whatever it's name is. Even though Mog transformed, I think they only did that because of the energy of Esto Gaza? Idk!
@@MissildineOnline Oh yea, it's totally Madeen. The part of the wall that says they wish to create a new eidolon to protect Eiko is right before the report of the new eidolon in Esto Gaza.
good info but i gotta say i love the side drama of everyone going aggro about the pronunciation. it doesn't matter all that much but its interesting how people come up with different ways to say all these foreign words we never hear. what can make it confusing is that there is a western way and the native way to say these things so the way they say it in japan isn't the one and only correct way to say some of these things. also things can be said with different emphasis on certain syllables and while it may sound wrong its really not.
I keep going there and she keeps jumping away but I don’t have garnet or Eiko in my party so confused I just got the boat do I need to complete more missions before this is my first time playing the game as an adult lol smashed it when I was young without 100% completion
Have somebody changed the dagger's name when it is possible? I mean, when we play legend of Zelda I for NES, if we start a game with Zelda, the map changes, so maybe this is a hint for a next game, maybe that legend eidolon...
Its pronounced Shee-Va like the hindu god. These eidolons get their names from real words so they have concrete pronunciations. Also - not Ra Moo. Its Rah Muh. Never mind the Mewgules lol jesus man are you doing this just so people comment??
Actually FFXIV has Ramuh in it too and is voiced, and every one of the characters that mentions Ramuh pronounces it Ramoo. So that's how it's supposed to be pronounced according to SE.
Tomato, tomahto, the pronounciations dont really matter cuz they're not real words lol. I personally say "AY-dull-on," but I've also heard "Eye-DOLE-an." They're made up words, say it however u want lol. But moogles should definitely be pronounced "MOO-gull!" lmao. Btw does anyone know if theres a way to see Dagger's reaction to this?
@@MissildineOnline do check out the Channel "Think Media TV" Sean makes videos about youtube tips and tricks, I was confused for a split second I thought Sean was doing a voice over on an ff9 topic XD great video btw been years since I played ff9 (was stuck at disc 3 coz it was damaged)
