"It" is love. He's not fighting out of anger or hatred. He's fighting for the one person he treasures above all, and it's this love that Exdeath, despite all his might, could never possibly comprehend.
Exdeath was incapable of understanding. Even with all his Terrible power, a being born of hatred and evil that sought destruction; Galuf used every last ounce of his strength and the love within his heart to protect those whom he calls friends, and most of all, to keep his beloved grandchild safe and happy. Galuf truly is the dawn warrior of the crystals.
what i can respect FFV for is, despise being the most cheesy entry in the series, it doesn't need to spell out what gave Galuf power to defeat ExDeath.
@@thesidneychan Gameplay replacement, sure. But not a character replacement. So the loss still hits in the feels, especially after that badass stand against Exdeath. FFV characters may not be that complex, but Galuf and Krile are still completely different.
Galuf is my favorite character in any Final Fantasy game. We get to know him throughout the game. We get funny and lighthearted scenes with him, scenes of him and Bartz just hanging out and talking at the bar, scenes that humanize him and make us *care* about him - so this death scene hits like a goddamn truck when it happens. He went out in the most badass way possible, though. Galuf was a true hero and an all-around great guy to the end.
HP 0 is not dead. It's extremely exhausted. Galuf on the other hand, despite being old, kept on fighting with HP 0 as if it's nothing. Guess what happens afterwards.
We spent like 60% of the game with Galuf and he was actually interesting, funny, had good dynamic with Bartz and despite his age he's always there to fight danger. Not to mention his heart-wrenching scene where he waits for Xezat to comeback, hoping his friend survived, the game makes u wait with him then it cuts to him alone in the submarine. When Galuf died I got genuinely sad, like if there's ever a chance to bring him back I'll take it, all those emotions weren't there when Aerith had the same fate. She was alright but I simply don't feel the same attachment towards her, the only sad thing about her death is losing the healer
Apparently if you do this fight with Galuf as a berserker the fight literally never fucking ends I've had it going for the past 20 minutes but it just keeps going
This game is a masterpiece. I've been saying that since the 90's. Kids, especially western ones who never played this game until the 2000's don't know how great it was back in its days. Just like how FFVIII is being ridiculed by the modern fans. They were never there when FFVIII came out, they don't understand how its theme fit perfectly with the 1998 world. The academy theme, the dynamic FMVs, the theme songs, etc. Kids only know that FFVIII sucks because they know all the exploits that they can farm cards and break the game in disc 1 therefore the game sucks.
I love FFV, but I don't like FFVIII. And yeah, I was there when these games first came out. I was actually far more interested in FFVIII as a young kid, but as I got older and played through it again I realized how weird the plot is. It has good elements and the Laguna storyline is interesting (but I wasn't a fan of the whole trying to change the timeline and all that. And the fact how the whole feel of the game changed so much with every disc, probably due to the quickly shifting themes they portray). Also the world felt very underdeveloped. The junction system is easily broken, but it definitely gave me good challenge on my first blind run. That wasn't the reason I didn't like the game.
Nah, FFVIII was somewhat panned in the 90s too. To be fair it had a difficult act to follow in FFVII, but then and now it was considered the weakest of the PS1 FF games.
@@Helbinor I remember many FF fans back then even prefer VIII over VII. The graphical advancement was just so huge that VII Lego graphics were blown away. FFIX was the actual weakest one.
