I thought it was going to be released on the N64, not the SNES.

cristobal1152 It was Snes but changed the N64 because it was about to be released but It would take to many cartridges which made Square and Nintendo have an argument so Square went with Ps1 partly for space and Censorship reasons plus 3 disc > 7 or more Cartridges

Fate Or Chance? I knew about the catridges issue, but not about the original plans of having it on the SNES.

​@@MrWright The SNES was originally supposed to get a CD expansion module. I think they even partnered with Sony to make it. Then they canceled it to focus entirely on the N64, and instead of CDs they used cartridges again, both of which pissed Square off. It was like a decade before they released anything on Nintendo hardware after that.

I know this is 4 years old, but why would it being on the snes make it a better game? It worked well on ps1

Apparently FFVII was originally going to be released on the SNES way back, so there may be an alternate timeline where this exists.

A fan demake could be possible by using custom sprites from record keeper but it will take some years.

There is no one, singular SNES sound engine; there's various sample sets designed for every game. (though some companies reused these sample sets for a lot of games, e.g. Capcom) If you want to play with them, you can either find .sf2 files of these sample sets from places like Musical Artifacts or William Kage's website, or rip the samples yourself to use them for music production.
