I dig how you took that "Damn son where you find this at" sample and spliced it with that Eggman sonic adventure sample. This may not really apply to your style but I recently discovered the Ocarina of time "hookshot loading" sound is a really fun and interesting percussion sample in a few situations idk. :) thanks for the interesting video homeslice.
Back in high school me and my friend would draw our own FF7 comics and we would use that 4th disc for reference on the locations and enemies. Good times.
The FMV where Squall got stabbed by an ice shard and fall at the end of Disc 1 then black screen fade to Disc 2 change screen of FFVIII is still one of my fondest gaming memories to this day. Technological advancements are cool, games getting bigger in scale and scope, prettier and better (some) but nothing could replace nostalgia.
Always struck me as the same crap I see on a lot of TV, cliffhanger at the season end or on an episode that wont be out for another week or month. Just strikes me as the writers weren't confident we would want to see more, so they gave us a cliffhanger knowing most would come back just for closure. However I can forgive it like I do with shows where everyone that has a real say chooses to hold the episode until the next one the cliffhanger leads into is ready because it showed that at least someone cared to not insult their fans. Except in games it just feels more like a cheap mockery when in reality they could cut the disc a bit shorter or later without blowing the data budget.
But heyyyy, we finally have the main Kingdom Hearts games on Switch now! ...except they're shitty Cloud Versions. ...For literal PS2 games. ...On a system that can run GameCube, Wii and Wii U games. ...Three systems that are more powerful than the PS2. ...That you can't play without a steady ethernet connection. ...And you lose the games forever once the servers shut down. ...Because Squeenix is too cheap to be bothered to properly port games they can't stuff with microtransactions.
@@russybcool I really miss Squaresoft, as they were in the 90s. And i remember first hearing about the square enix 2003 merger and thinking *no* this isn't good. Both squaresoft and enix had their talent but i never thought it was a good idea to fuse them. Then again ff10 sucked. The story, the characters, the embarrassing voice acting and no world map. The graphics were all it had, but people praise it so highly. So what i mean is, we're lucky we get anything anymore. Anything we want anyway. If it were up to me, everything would be completely different.
I miss when games did cool shit like this giving you a whole disc worth of cool tidbits and behind the scenes stuff. MGS2 and Shenmue also did a great job with this concept.
It was cool but keep and mind that all of those came with editions that essentially required you to buy the game twice and most of the information is available online today.

@@the-NightStar no, they were actually talking about putting it on discs, and not as bonus content in game. I don't know how old you are, so I don't know if you know what it's like to play a game on the first playstation, but it was a tipping point in our society. We had these things called CDs that we listened to our music on, but some of them were meant to play video games on. It was wild just for that, but then to see the bonus stuff, that blew our minds. You just have to think of it in the context of when the game first came out.
Very sad how the DVD boxes soulessly had the discs stacked on top of each other instead of a cool bigger boxes on the PS1, I'd say that was also great for marketing as you could also visually see the game had more to offer and really stood out against the rest, or at least that's how I perceived it during the PS1 era, multiple disc boxes felt SO GOOD to hold and handle for some reason.
@@doggerlander To be fair some PSX and PS2 games put their games on several discs just to make it sell better. It was also cheaper to use two low-storage discs as opposed to one high-storage disk, if you couldn't fit your game on a regular disc.
As a kid knowing nothing, I chose legend of dragoon over Chrono cross because legend of dragoon had four discs which clearly meant it was better than the measly two discs of Chrono Cross... Hahaha, I don't entirely regret it
The yu gi oh rpg on ps1 used a two disc case despite being only one disc. Trying to trick the public into thinking it had more content than it actually did. Worked on me
there is a DOS game called Queen: The eYe which contains five CDs, and if you put one of them in a CD player it plays the game's soundtrack, which is remixes of Queen songs. I was a huge Queen fan in middle school so I ordered them on ebay. Very weird game.
A lot of PS1 games would play the soundtrack on PC or CDplayer. I've heard those facts a lot, can't remember what games but a good few. Tiger woods 97(ish) had the south park pilot on it
Protip for Parasite Eve 2 if you have trouble swapping discs for nautical reasons - the first disc and second have a huge overlap, a save in Dryfield at night (before the disc 2 transition) can be loaded from either disc. There, I made a comment that was kinda useful and almost related to the video. Now to smoke weed and watch the bits I ignored while writing this.
What are natural resons for not being able to swap discs? Like holding on to a dump, where any movement would make you lose your shit? Sorry, I can't imagine what a natural reason would be. Please enlighten me.

1:04 Tokimeki Memorial 2 is a great game too! Interestingly the first disk is only used for 3 things; the isometric prologue, epilogues and EVS. The EVS is a kind of voice synthesizer which uses almost a whole PS1 memory card to let you have one of the girls say your name in game. There were 3 additional disks purely for extra EVS modules which came with the game's official magazine "Hibikino Watcher".
I'm under the impression for Chocobo GP it was supposed to be a mobile phone game. It's slower, shorter tracks, and has the currency and pay to win mechanics which alot of mobile phone games have.

This makes me wish they would release the FF7 international version as the version on Steam, Mobile, Digital on Console etc. Like it would be super cool.
It's pretty easy to emulate and just play the 4th disc if you like. The International version of FFVII is the same as the NTSC and PAL version hence why they call it International just with an extra 4th disc to get people who played the original Japanese release to be more interested in buying. It's also very affordable to import as is most Japanese RPGs. The menu music is really great to hang out in, has all the PS1 demo music vibes of Square that remind me of Noriko Matsueda 's techno jazz lounge music.
Lol squeenix fucking sucks too much to do that, at least not without making it physical only "to be faithful to retro gaming", very limited release, $250 each
@@hankhill7827 The original Japanese version doesn't have the minor changes that were in the north American and European version which is why this second Japanese release exists, adding those changes from the Japanese market.

That Xbox game with the disks just stuffed into that case in a stack reminded me of a picture that went viral back when GTA 5 released on PC because the physical version (that almost no one bought) had something ludicrous like 7 DVDs inside the box. Also, as a Tomb Raider fan I'm really conflicted about Square Enix selling all of their Eidos series. On one hand the company that bought that stuff is the same than owns THQ Nordic and Deep Silver so I imagine they'll be treated all right, but on the other I don't know if we'll get the super high budget stuff like Rise of the TR or the weird spin-offs like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light anymore since those clearly came from SE just throwing shit (and loads of cash) at the wall to see if anything stuck in a desperate attempt at figuring out how to western in a profitable way.

It's just a shame that this disc was never translated and added to the PC remaster that eventually found its way to all the consoles that was made in 2013. That would be a great bonus.
I started watching your content because you have as much love for the super unique content, hidden gems, and titles that never made it here during the PS1 and PS2 era as I do. I had a massive collection of disc's for both systems from the US, Japan, and Europe, along with thr consoles to play them on, and I truly love the JRPG content and uniquely unusual and experimental games among those two console generations. Sony impressed me with their hardware and initially consumer-friendly approach, and companies like Squaresoft, Atlus, Enix, Konami, and Capcom were still trusted to deliver solid experiences. Jump forward a few decades and it genuinely makes me sad to see Squenix having lived long enough as the hero to see themselves become the villain, but it’s also an unavoidable truth. In addition, Sony is just as bad as every other hardware manufacturer now, worse in some cases. Konami soiled themselves with bad choices and ruthless behavior and jumped off the lake. Capcom is still out there but they don't make much noise and it's been decades since they sold a fighter without nickle and diming people to unlock the full roster. Man, I miss being able to hit a gaming store and find a complete title ready to purchase and sink 40 hours into with no extra payment necessary to have the complete experience.

The 4th disc is a "Perfect guide" for the English version of VII which was released in Japan with the ability to flip between english text and japanese text and added all of the stuff added to the US version, the 4th disc is just a strategy guide, its nothing too special.
Oh yes floppies. They were a pain in the ass to install. Nowadays installing a game on the computer is as simple as a click of a button. But back then you had to make sure you were on the right operating version and some games required a degree at MIT to figure out how to install (at least for a young kid). Probably why I preferred console games until the 00s.
Koudelka, came with four disks and I was never able to reach the third one, haunts me to this day. The corrupted versions of the main characters always managed to kick my ass on Disc 2.

I don't know if anyone haven't heard of this but the first batch of the original ffvll was a full 4 disc game. And the disc 4 was the final Crater. Later they switch to the 3 disc version. My uncle bought it for me when I was a kid.
I've bad this bonus disk for decades,.in japanese, I bought it at a flea market sale for literal cents. The disk is immaculate and i bought it only cos im a FF7 fan and i had never seen it before. Problem is, my PS1 couldnt read it as it is Japan zone, so it has been sitting in my closet for decades. the guy who sold it to me for coins probably didnt know it was so rare (neither did i tbh). I need to get a japanese PS1 so i can read it tho
Emulation... I mean if you own it it's not like it's pirating. I know most PCs these days don't come with disc drives but I have an external drive just so I could use the games I own to emulate them upscaled.

Man, your vocabulary and use of language especially as a non native English speaker is incredibly impressive. I'd say, of the channels I watch, only Tim Rogers is better in that regard and he is 1, an American, 2, a polyglot with at least 1 degree in language and 3, suffers from a neurological condition that forces him to remember even the most minute details of his entire life all the time, and thus, every word he has ever learned the definition of. But he is more verbose for verbosity's sake and analytical where you have a very firm grasp of like, English internet humor and if a boomer English professor watched one of your videos he would assume the quirks and irregularities are a result of it not being your first language, but terminally online millennials and zoomers understand basically all of the little jokes and funny uses and misuses of words you throw in, and your slang all makes sense to us, there's no like, local Dutch idiosyncrasies that go over our head. The international version is the American version with Japanese language Because america got a more complete game with ruby and emerald weapon So they re released it with all the extra content and a 4th disk filled with bestiary, maps and artwork Most fans knew about it shortly after its release because it was well covered by every game magazine at the time
I love stuff Square Made, mostly back in the SquareSoft days, Chrono Trigger, FF IX, Xenogears, but I have nothing but contempt for Square-Enix, it is sad seeing companies you loved going to "the Dark Side" like Sony for instance, but nothing good lasts forever I guess, which sucks, but it feels like that's the way it is most times.

@@bnadna It doesn't mean it is good, right or fair. MMOs didn't use to have online stores they just did sub costs. Then they went with online stores to milk people. So even the excuse of "MMO" doesn't work... because even then they were not this bad.
