Too many people write off Squall's character & story arch in this game. I remember this game pretty vividly as well even though I never got that far in it. FF9 still holds it's place in my heart.
@@pinacolaaadas i agree. He was a bit of a douchebag though. It was mostly the locations and music that i loved the most. I never got far in FF9. I might have to gi e it another go!
Final Fantasy VIII had a pretty mature content for a public that expected child like characters fighting the bad guy with silver hair, to save the world from an evil corporation and a meteor. Most people criticizing FFVIII didn't even pass through the Dollet SeeD exam, but they're still criticizing it because they hate it. FFVIII had a pretty deep history, where it's shown the development of the main character as a person, you can notice that he starts as a douchebag, but he ends up as pretty mature man, transformed by his friends and gf, he finally loses his fear of being alone (which is partially the reason why he was so rude some times), and there was also Laguna, his father (although not officially confirmed by Square) that also was shown as a pretty interesting character. FFVIII was not supposed to be a game based on "Let's save the day", it was a drama story with lots of action (immersion) and a lot of innovative elements, including the graphics. Even today, if you look closely, FFVIII graphics still look more advanced than FFIX graphics, thus you see how much love Square put on that game. I remember people complaining that the characters looked like real people, but there's no canonic Final Fantasy game today with chibby characters like FFVII anymore and no one is complaining, also no one complained when FFX came out, and no one complained when FFVII Crisis Core came out. A lot of people may not like FFVIII, and that's understandable, what's not understandable is that most part of the hate the game gets is just hate, there's no logical reason behind it, people just hate it because yes. Why? Because "it's" a romance (What about Cloud having two girls at his disposal?), because they were expecting a spin off of Final Fantasy VII when it came out, just like they were expecting a spin off of Final Fantasy VI when the VII came out, and they received a spin off of the VI. Yes, Final Fantasy VII is a spin off from Final Fantasy VI, while Final Fantasy VIII is a completely different game that innovated everything, meaning that a lot of people were taken out of their comfort zones, and now you can understand why a lot of people hated it and why some even say it's the worst game in the franchise (although they didn't even play through ¬¬).
@@DMan-it5tq He wasnt a douchebag he was a troubled kid that was left alone as a kid so he had troubles expressing his emotions and connecting with others. He gets over it throughout the game with character growth slowly but surely. If you see that full picture and understand all the depths of it its really great.
Loool... yeah those damn floating fishes. And then you have the T-rex lurling in a nearby forest... and also inside the park where you sent your kids to study...
This Game is really important to me. I've spent hours and hours playing it alongside My dad, which is a REALLY cold person. We Made a connection thanks yo this Game, leving up, playing triple triad all Day... Now a days we don't talk to each other and listening to this games music makes me remind those good times we spent together. I hope he Will change someday and start having a better attitude and connection with me and My brothers.
Big up to you and your dad, I wish everything will sort it out between you two. It shows how powerful videogames can be. Stay strong! Happy holidays to you!
Me too bro lol I remeber days when my dad was playing ff8 all fckn days and he was blocking the console 🤣 but after few years i became from hater to lover when i finnaly learn some English 🤣🤣
I left a comment on your FFIX ambient track some time ago.. but the truth is, FFVIII is and always will be my favorite game ever. It's like my third parent. I got it as a present somewhere around 1998-1999. Changed my life forever. Grew up with it. I used to dream about meeting a girl like Rinoa and livin all kinds of adventures. Unfortunately, my life went another way. Yet, i still spend some evenings listening to these songs, smiling, crying, thinking about how different things could have been. Sometimes i just want to die, sometimes i want to fight and maybe find a girl who'll understand me. Thank you for these moments, you wouldn't imagine how much it means to people like me.....
I bought this game back in high school and its still my favorite. The characters, story, and music. I remember buying the 4 cd set cause I absolutely loved the music. I also thought how cool it would be to meet someone like Rinoa and going on adventures. Lol to be young. I do hope your life went the way you chose, it shouldn't be dependent on anyone else. Live your own life, you don't need a girl to understand you, you understand you and that "girl" will find you. All the best my fellow FF8 fan.
Loved reading this comment. So well put. I feel very strongly about ff8 and it definitely changed my life forever as well. So many themes of FF8 too…. I feel it in my life everyday. I DID meet my Rinoa, unfortunately it was at the wrong time - reminds me a lot of Laguna and Julia. I still beat myself up over it sometimes. But, like the game teaches us, you move on and learn to live life dealing with the cards you got. Hope you lead a fulfilling life my friend. To more adventures 🍻
I can relate to your comment but frer yourself of the victim mindset. Change your ways of thinking and go get what you want. Even the girl. She wont fly into your lap thats a lie. I guess the best way to make you understand is Squall sought out Rinoa. In space. Back on earth. So whatever it is you want find out how to get it first and then Go GET IT! God gave us one life and it flys by.
First time I played this game in ‘99 I was half my age. Never really finished the game because I don’t want it to end. I have a Rinoa poster on my room that time, dreaming of finding my own rinoa. I had girlfriends but I feel like I never really found her, my rinoa. I got married and she cheated and we ended. Now I’m 34yo, still listening to FF8 musics. I also listen to “to zanarkand and suteki da ne” from ffX and tifa’s theme from ff7 I guess there’s still this half age of me hoping to meet her my Rinoa, or maybe I am just Laguna who end up alone but successful. We’ll see, for now I’ll enjoy being single and listen to these songs 🎧 One thing I should tell y’all, it’s okay to be alone, you have to learn to be happy by yourself and your Rinoa will see that in you.
the memories! simpler times man! time really flows fast. time is the most precious. all you young ones out there reading this comment. enjoy every moment you have. make good memories.
It’s amazing the peaceful this transmits… The world of FF8 is plenty of monsters and fights but is clearly overpassed by the great places and hearts of its characters. It is like a simpler world with sense and mission. The real one is bigger but it is also much more disappointing. In FF time evolves for the better, in real world everything rots sooner or later… Hugs for you who has this kind of heart in your interior.
We seriously need a remake of this videogame even if they have to remake it from the ground up! This game gave me so many good memories as a child. I grew up in am extremely broken home and my escape would be to immerse myself in video games and this is one of the most memorable ones for me. I would imagine myself as squall saving the world from Ultimecia with the squad. Also traveling back in time to play as Squalls father Laguna very touching story... the nostalgia is making me sad 😔 but a good sad
bruh this deserves way more likes and views than it currently has. if only just for the artwork and attention to detail: - bushes rustling in the wind - shadow of a person passing through - birds flying through - boat passing by - the even more subtle way the mission boat is rocking back and forth at it's dock - clouds moving across the sky - transition from sunset into moonlight - dissidia cutscenes on the tv - heatwaves from the pit in the middle - the radio being a mix of electric and analogue, the old+modern is a very ff8 aesthetic - omg the seconds hand moves - the staaarrrssss
No matter how many times I have played the other ff games I always go back to ff8 I have the remaster on my switch right now and play the heck out of it my grandfather bought this when I was 11 or 12 and I will always play it just to have those memories of him watching me play it and him seeing me happy I love you pawpaw
It feels so calming listening to FFVIII music. After all these years I still feel a wave of nostalgia. It really feels like coming home after a long time. Thank you for this wonderful mix.

@@solfeggiovideogamemusic ff8 is amazing. Ff7 is too. They are completely different and shouldnt even be compared. They are seperate works of art. Doing that is so reductive. I agree with you.
I'm subscribing now because I want to have the privilege to be here in the future, when this channel reach 1 million subscribers, and say "I started following this channel when it had only 247 subscribers".
@@lesmondesimpossibles Please subscribe to my channel too, I upload videogame music with 432hz frequency. Checkout my "Final Fantasy VII - Hollow Skies" video and you'll understand. Thanks for that awesome work. :D And with the quality of your content, you'll reach 1 million in no time, I presume in 1 year you'll reach at least 100k. ;) Give more focus to the backgrounds, people then to love the music even more because of them. lol
A couple years ago, there was an amazing mix of relaxing FF8 music set to an ambient (with slight motion) backdrop of an extremely high definition Balamb garden classroom. One day it was just gone and if anyone knows anything I'd love if you would share with me!
Thank you. This is really nostalgic and purely soothing. I love early FF soundtracks, there's some kind of calming magic to them. I listen to this while working, calms and soothes away the stress
I Can't get enough of this FF8 being one of my favourite games growing up always puts me in a Nostalgic mood plus relaxing really awesome stuff thank you💪💪💪
Wonderfull. But i think some backgrounds from the hotel and even the inside the trainstation would of worked well too. I like the hook and the crowd noises in the back. Tought the latet isnt very relaxing xD Works perfectly with taking a bath, just short of the 2 hours i usually stay in the bath. A bit more wave/water sound would be cherry on top of cake.
I wish I could be rich enough to create Balamb Garden in real life, a place where students can train and grow to become the best version of themselves. A sanctuary for learning, where discipline and valor are cultivated, and where every young soul can find their purpose and strength. To bring such a noble vision to life, it would be truly magnificent.
This was my first FF game, sadly I couldn't beat it since there was an error on the ending boss fight that entered a loop when defeated... Gosh what a great game, the music, the scenes, the art, the story... It was the first time I saw those cinematics in a game, i was SURE that it was from a movie, so much so, that I went to a video store multiple times, searching for that "movie". If there is ever a remastered version like they did with FF 7... I would love to play it.
Sadly truth is they cant renaie ff8. 20 years ago we dont have super big memory discs with infinite space this is why ppls was making a 'good story' games, not the nice looking game like they doing now.
