Fennel is called a “green gonid”, ногоон гоньд. Strangely we have totally different spices and herbs under the name “gonid”, just specify with different colors. So, we have fennel as “green gonid”, we have grey gonid, black gonid. And others. Some of them are a dill, a cumin (zira), a caraway (tmin), etc. All of them are used as herbs, as tea, in oriental medicine. And of course in preparing dishes.

Fennel is "Гоньд (Gonid)" . In Mongolia, it is mostly sold as a powdered in a paper bag. It is often used in dumpling meat

I believe Gonid is anise not Fennel. Fennel and anise share the black licorice flavor of anethole, but they do have slightly different profiles. Fennel seeds are less sweet than anise, with a milder flavor; anise seeds have a much sweeter, more powerful black licorice flavor.. 🙏🏻

No not at all. Gonid is kumin as spice. Fennel is vegetable.

Some of these veggies are not common not only in Mongolia but in general in East Asia as well, such as fennel and celery. In Eastern Europe, only leaves are used as a seasoning. I've never seen a root the size of garlic and didn't even know that it was edible. But leaves are very common in Buryatia and called укроп and сельдерей and without exaggeration, people grow it in every garden.

@17:00 isnt fennel гоньд?
@SimpleWildLiving
@SimpleWildLiving 7 месяцев назад
Yes it is fennel not anise. Despite their similar appearance, fennel and anise do have distinct flavors. Fennel has a sweet, delicate flavor with a hint of licorice, while anise has a stronger, more pronounced licorice flavor. Both plants are also used for their seeds, which have a more intense flavor than the leaves or stalks
