Great work and video ! I enjoy your videos a lot , because you are very serious when it comes to quality work. You cannot stress this enough , this is what a Porsche makes a Porsche which everybody loves. When I work on mine which is a 997 I am always happy how good the parts come together after a repair. Not screws left ! LOL

Looks really good. Nice job on the hood/cowl gap. Such a finicky part of reassembly. If I may, I recommend 6” deep of old bedspreads taped across that hood. From my past experience, it now has a target on it. LOL. 👍

It is always scary to put newly painted panels on cars. Thumbs up from here 😝

True. It takes some patience for sure. Luckily, not a scratch. I think the other panels will be a bit easier too

Nice job. I did mine using the same procedure, but once the gas struts was installed they pushed the hood up at the cowl. And from there on it was a real pain to fine tune the alignment. Looking forward to you tackling this

Not using hood struts. If I was I would have trial fit them a long time ago

I’m in New Zealand doing a 1981sc backdate, we’ve no suppliers here for Porsche gear, even limited gear available in Australia, can you Suggest a supplier in the US ? There seems to be plenty of options, yet the pricing is all over the place, really enjoying you backdate videos, thanks for your help

I'm right in the epicenter of Porsche parts and I still make my own stuff! Prices can be absurd. Are you looking for a complete backdate kit? If so then try TRE motorsports.

Looks good Tom. Watching you close the hood reminds me of the time that my hood release cable came undone from the latch. The tank was installed- so it was quite difficult to open up the hood again. My car is a 1967 so I’m not sure if a short hood car like your would be harder or easier to open. I guess what I am trying to say is- “ensure that the hood release and latch are secure!!” Also- will you be able to access the latch when the front bumper is installed? I ask because it’s further back than a normal longhood car.
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
Very good advice. I will leave my fender pull wire there in addition to the usual hood release. My redundant pull wire is knotted up on the end so even if that screw backs off the wire will still release the latch. Another reason why I waited to install the gas tank is that it's so easy to adjust the latch from the inside! I will need to modify the stock latch to bring it further forward. Probably just weld something to it. I have release the hood with the bumper on, but it takes a slim jim type of tool to release the hood. There will be a future video on this I'm sure.

Thanks for the video Tom. I was wondering about your hinges. Mine seem to be very sloppy loose, like you can twist them a bit side to side. Is that how your are? How tight is your pivot point on your hinges? Thanks, Rodney
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 3 года назад
Hi Rodney, One hinge is original to my car and it feels pretty tight. There's resistance to opening and closing and no twisting. The other hinge was purchased used and it's a bit looser, but not bad. I still have the bent one if you want it to compare.

I’ve never seen a lift like that. Wow. Can you share name and where you got it and price. Perfect for low ceiling. Do you have to drill into floor to secure it ?

Yes, here's the video when I installed it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fAyd883i-4Y.html Now they are sold by bendpak. I think around $2.5k?

Happy? Yes. No you can't walk under it unless you're very short. More like roll around on a mechanics seat.
