I followed all of these steps in 2020 on a new set of vortec heads from summit. GM ones. I run them on a 98 vortec roller block with a xr276hr. It runs very well! Thank you so so much for making this knowledge available! Stay away from the "no go zone"!

David I wanted to thank you for passing on your racing engine wisdom and knowledge on to the next Generation. My brother showed me your magazine writeups years ago, and so glad I can learn more from you here on the youtube. I am looking forward to more on uneven headers for V8's regarding both firing orders, and how that can be calculated, and also how valve seat angles vs flow vs cam timing can be accurately sorted. Thank you again for all the excellent knowledge.

Great set of videos David. Have been following you since I built my fist engine in 1980. I did have a question about a part of the porting that you did not touch on. What is the strategy when porting the transition into the header? When I port heads I do not port match out to the diameter of the header. Instead I will leave the port one or two sizes smaller. As an example, if I am going to use a 1-5/8 round tube header I will port out to something just slightly smaller than a 1-1/2 round header gasket about 3/4 of the way around the port. I typically do not touch the floor of the port when doing this other than to smooth out the cast surface. This way I reduce the dump loss into the header, but still leave a little ledge all the way around to improve anti-reversion.

Do you do just a 45 degree cut on the exhaust valve, or do you do a 3 angle valve cut, with no back cut on exhaust valve?

Can you do a video on bigger values on the intake side of vortec heads like a 2.00 or 2.020 lots of people say its a waste of money because it does not for flow i wonder if thats because maybe they aren't d shrouding the valve
