@@Polara. oh lol ..I live in Illinois so I’ll likely have to go out of state for the next video. I don’t know of any such terrain in the flat state of IL that’ll get a 20” bike moving that fast. I hit 42.8 mph on a mountain bike in Tennessee so if I have to I can go back there but I hope to find something a little closer. I’ll ask on the road bike groups/forums. I bet they’ll know haha

Beautiful bike! I just got my hands on a 65 super deluxe in the same exact color 99% original. Only thing missing is a 65 dated front white wall. The one on it is a 68 white wall but the rear and everything else all original. Hope to find it one day. Great job on restoration…bike looks amazing

I use electrolysis for rust removal. Pits I generally solder or braze over. Electroplating is possible at home, but you need to do a lot of polishing. Never had the Schwinn sing ray but I did have the Sears Ted Williams version of a chopper bike. Once I grew tall the bike eventually was too small to ride and it sat in the garage. My parents must have thrown it away when I moved out. Had a slick rear tire, glitter banana seat, wheelie bar and glitter grips. When I was in Junior high I actually restored it down to taking the spokes off and polishing and straightening the wheels, 40 miles an hour on that thing seems suicidal.
@GoodTimeBikes
@GoodTimeBikes 9 месяцев назад
Electrolysis is an excellent idea! I haven’t done it myself but I’ve seen videos and it seems to produce awesome results. Sorry to hear you lost your old bike back then but I think it would be neat for you to track down the same bike and do a restoration project again. I guarantee you’d feel like a kid again! The high speed videos come with a little bit of risk but it was worth it :)

I'm all about using my original parts as much as I can, even if it means they still show a little age after polishing. I feel it kind of keeps the bike looking like it's got a story to tell. That being said, the Stingray I learned how to ride on is restored and immaculate and I have plenty of trophies I've won with it, so to each their own. Lol.
@GoodTimeBikes
@GoodTimeBikes Год назад
I agree. The imperfections certainly add to the story of the bike. Restored or not it’s really cool that you still have your old bike and that’s more than most guys can say!

I have one for sale. Purple 1966 frame with a Bendix blue band OD. Mine has the ram-horn handlebars and a tall sissy bar. Rebuilt the transmission, greased the bearings, new brakes, new tires so the kids could ride it.

Well, going 40 mph is not as fast as I was going through. When my brake cable broke in half inside my brakes case when I was going down St. Croix Falls between Minnesota and Wisconsin when I was young during the 80s. My friend and I were heading out to my Dad's cabin in Wisconsin. I've had some how Managed to make it down the hill and cruising between 50 and 65 miles per Hour without having any Sort of problems with bumped in vehicles or people who are walking around on the right side of the road to look over the river. All I know is that I would not want to go through that again. Note; If any other person who is planning on a long-distance road trip. Best of go replaced your brakes cables before you go. Because of that, I have truly learned a very important lesson.

The Schwinn Stingray was meant for everybody, not just for kids. It was designed so that adults can ride them as well as kids. And many adults did. I once collected Stingrays, and I even got hold of an original in lime green with a solo polo saddle. Until an arrogant Schwinn specialist made me trade in that lime green original for the project he was working on. I no longer collect Schwinn Stingrays, because I got sick and tired of the Schwinn Stingray community. I forgot to mention: You did good work on your 66. It should last you a while.
