I never get tired of watching this ending

Literally one of the best endings for a movie. It's not about the man saving the woman, she saves him and he carries her off to a new life.

Debra Winger may have been unhappy with the production but wow she was great in this movie. Richard Gere couldn't have been better. John Travolta passed on this which was a huge mistake. Gere captured the young stud actor in his prime as well as anyone ever has. Fantastic and for me top 10 movie of all time.

my girlfriend knew I wanted to marry her but she was afraid so she "ran away", then 3 months later she called me and said to come and get her. I drove 950 miles over 17 hours and we got married in Vegas on our way back to California. Watching this always gives me the same feeling I had when I saw her again. the best ending to a movie and I didn't even see it coming.

When I watch this scene, I think of the spoof in The Simpsons where Marge goes to the nuclear plant and she sees Homer. They share a romantic moment like this and everyone applauds for them

How come this movie is last to show up on every format. What the hell Paramount? You missed the Anniversary, but you put other dumb stuff on 4k first and not this? I mean we lost Louis Gossett Jr recently, this should be out by now. You guys are slow as molasses. The ending is so good, love this film. I first saw it in 1990 as a teenager. I too, wanted to fly jets, but my vision stopped me in my tracks. I still joined the military and retired after 20 years. Every time I wanted to quit I thought back to this movie, it helped me make it to the end.

I read somewhere that Gere actually insisted on this ending...it made the movie!

I can see why women go crazy over this movie it's their ultimate fantasy: Good looking guy obtains status and highly respectable career and caries his woman away from her shi**y job into the better future with higher standard of living while all the other women are fuming with jealousy..

Yup Zack Mayo takes Paula away from a dreary factory job to a far better life. Of course, as Foley predicted, Mayo ended up flying for United Airlines and Paula and the kids getting complementary tickets every year to fly to places like Hawaii and Bermuda. That would be the dream ending if we looked 15 years into the future.

Fun Fact: Richard and Debra actually hated each other during filming.

I Saw that film in Czech language too but at the ending scene wasn't Theme from Officer and Gentleman, but the Love Theme from Lee Ritenour. With the same ending but with another music. Is the "alternative" ending scene??

I use my imagination here,and picture Sids parents coming there demanding answers about thier sons suicide,only to find out it was some little tramps head games that lead up to it,then Sids mom Confronting Lynett,calling her every name in the book,she got off too easy,she ruined his life,but can move on with hers.
