The swiss can be proud. We long wondered which of the 'lesser' teams who would rise to the top and become a force to be reckoned with in hockey, besides the 8 classic teams. I always thought it would be Germany. But the swiss have proven that they now are that team. Good job, Switzerland.
7 classic teams, you mean.. but Slovakia hasn't really been a force to be reckoned with in many years.. It's nice to see Switzerland doing this well though, even if it was only the IIHF WC.. Hopefully we can see more teams challenging the current big 6 in the Olympics in the future, and hopefully we'll see teams except Sweden and Canada actually winning the Olympics.
usernaames I'd actually like to see Finland win one, if it weren't for the complex a lot of finns have against Sweden. (Understandable, but that doesn't make it right.)
+BenRangel I'm Swedish but I hate that Switzerland (and Slovakia) doesn't get its own team in the World Cup in 2016. Instead it's "Team Europe". That's bullshit, who wants to cheer for that.
Im Swedish, But I really have to give Switzerland some credit, Amazing Tournament! You guys really deserved the gold! Keep it up and your time will come
Came here to read comments, have to say I'm not disappointed :D:D:D I like Sweds for their way of being, Finns for their introvert style of humor, and feel sorry for Swiss taking life too serious.
Canada, Russia, USA, Finland Sweden Schweiz(cant spell it in English) are all great teams be proud of your team eaven if they lost! They Will be back next year for another great game! Theres no need for namecalling unless you dont have anything better to do... Have a nice summer and we will see you next year. : with love from Sweden.
You fought really, really well Switzerland. The result on the scoreboard doesn't really show how the game played out. I hope you're still proud of the silver, it's a huge step for Swiss hockey and great for the competition.
Official rulebook: "450 - OFFSIDES a) Players of an attacking team shall not precede the puck into their attacking zone. b) The determining factors in deciding an offside are: 1. The player’s skates position - player is offside when both skates are completely over the blue line in his attacking zone before the puck completely crosses the line, 2. The puck position - the puck shall have completely crossed the blue line into the attacking zone. "
I'm pretty sure the people claiming an offside goal at the Vauclair giveaway scene simply didn't know one skate was sufficient to cancel the offside position and neither did I. You shouldn't give them a hard time for that. It was just a very uncommon situation. It's also kind of unfair to Vauclair since he'd been our most consistent defenceman up to that point (well, Josi doesn't count, he was all over the place), but this happens to be the last impression you get from him. Congrats to Sweden!
The point is that at 1:34 definitely one of his skates is on the blue line and this neutralized the offside. "player is offside when both skates are completely over the blue line" ==> "completly over" is the important thing when he got control of the puck. For me the 1:1 was irregular cause #44 stood with the half of his body in the goal crease area. (IIHF 471)
The rich countries like Switzerland and Finland should build 20 the luxury ice halls. All the others have done it USA Canada Sweden and even poorer countries.Your leader his idea is the great one and correct
I thought it was a clear offside too at first, but if you pause the replay it looks like Landeskog has his left skate on the blue line when the puck passes the line which would mean no offside.
Olympics is what matters, when all teams got there best players, tbh I have never seen sweden this bad. We were just lucky against canada, nobody can argue with that
His left skate is touching the blue line when he's turning. It looks like he touches the puck right as he has his skates on the blue line. Would that negate the offside? Also the linesman is on the "wrong" side, maybe he just didn't see it clearly.
"Ein Spieler mache noch keine Mannschaft, zwei Zwillinge aber könnten Wunder wirken" - Neue Zürcher Zeitung (New Zurich Times) (One player does not make a team, but two twins can accomplish miracles./ En spelare gör inte ett lag, men två tvillingar kan åstadkomma mirakel.)
Haha I was thinking before I clicked on this video "I'm sure that there will be finnish people complaining at the comment bar" haha and when I checked I was right! :D finnish people are so jealous at us :) Sweden
I am completely aware of the rules. I have the rulebook in my shelf and have been a linesman for 10 years or so. The point is he was never "onside", because he never left the zone.
Switzerland is the real winner and best team of this tournament. Next year ur even better and then those little girls in yellow will get their ass kicked. Congrats swiss. U showed us how the game is played.
Well, winning matches in the Group stage means nothing if your in it for the gold medal. Now, 11 years later, they have been in 2 more finals and lost those again. Sweden has won the world championships 11 times.
Well since Switzerland has never reached a final in like 70 years? and beat Sweden, Canada, Usa and the Czech republic twice on their way there I would say it´s pretty damn impressive. Mediocre is not the word that comes too mind...Hope to see you in another finale soon...
That's true but if you only look at the last 20 years it's: Sweden - 3 WC golds, 2 olympic golds vs. Canada - 5 WC golds, 2 olympic golds Russia - 4 WC golds, 0 olympic golds suddenly the deviation is not that big :)
So...which one of the 10 finns do you want me to let you know about? ...hm maybe some of them were actually swedes since...do Finland even have 10 people?
Räcker inte bara att va bra, kämpa , man måste ha tur också. NEED LUCK AND FINESS AND GOOD MIX OF PLAYERS TO WIN. Schweiz played the whole turnament extremly good! Thank you Sedins for coming home helping out! TOO GOOD ON BIG ICE! Worlds best hockeyplayers on big ice!
If you actually think that it's the gold medals that make the team, then how about this: Sweden - 9 WC golds, 2 Olympic golds vs. Canada - 18 WC golds, 8 Olympic golds Soviet Union - 19 WC golds and 7 Olympic Golds
Canada had all its best players in the 06 Olympics and got eliminated by Switzerland. If a team with barely any NHL players can beat Canada, I'd think a team Sweden packed with NHL stars can too.
Finland is a nordic country, some even consider Estonia as a nordic country. However, Finland is not a Scandinavian country, in its most common definition.
Show respect to the country but not their people? What does that even mean? How can you show respect to the country but hate the people of the same country? How does that make any sense?
it's not about that it's switzerland doesn't have ONE leader. it's a direct democracy with parties. well don't want to explain everything it's kind of complicated
Who's "we"? Do you mean the Swedes? I'm a swede and i think of Finland as a country to the east. Not Russia.. It's not been a part of Russia since 1918.
shame, i think that no one wanted that sweden win, just think that switzerland had changes to win championship! :O there is canada with crosby and usa with kane... and they didnt make it to the finals...
