Just a little late to this conversation. I’d say the biggest difference is that hockey is just not very popular in the US. Regardless, Sweden’s hockey program is excellent. EDIT: I’d like to see the ratio of total hockey players to pro hockey players for each country and then compare the two countries that way. I’m sure Sweden would still dominate.
PINSAMT.
Yes he is referring to the match between Hungary vs Sweden in 2005 WC qualification. Zlatan makes the only goal in the match on overtime..look it up...One of the best goal he ever have done...and than he did it again against Hungary in 2009, Zlatan scored the win for sweden 1-2...that goal was the last kick of the match...zero seconds left...but that goal was not that good.
@devoreCss NHL would be ruined without european players. just think about the number of (successful) russians, swedish, czech, finish and so on.. (and yes, in compare with number of inhibitants in their countries) and when USA is so "outstanding" why one can tell different after checking out the IIHF World Ranking...???
@aikmanist Haha god damn you are gay. Sweden and Finland are hockey rivals and I for one love every game they play. Either or both may suck at a tournament, but it is always a good game where everyone goes 110%, if only for just that game. But yes, Sweden is clearly better at hockey. Finland is very close though and they have individual players on par with the best Sweden can produce.
