Still a great job. Practice makes perfect, or closer to it. It is a priceless guitar because you made it. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Hey Adam - just watched the whole series - best guitar building course I’ve seen! Maybe because you are not a pro luthier (although you might be after a couple more builds!) you made the demonstrations and explanations much more relatable and valuable to amateurs like me. Really impressive process and attention to detail. Thanks so much!

That guitar is boomy ! Sounds great. I think I'm going with the Bolt on neck on my second guitar. I hand cut the Mortise and Tenon on my first. Had to do lots of fiddling around with it. Had the thing playing decent. Decided the fret board was a little too narrow. So I widened it and ended up radiusing it too much. So now I've leveled it with Polyester resin and ordered a 20' sanding block so we'll see if i can save it lol.

I absolutly loved your serie ! Very down to earth, modest and well put together. You made it look like something very humanly duable to go through this very complex build process. I feel super inspired and will try to build my own because of you (no hard feelings if it dosen’t go as well as yours off course lol). Thank you for your work👌

A mortise and tenon isn’t going to solve the neck angle issue, that is totally dependent on the mating surface between the neck and body. A tenon actually complicates adjusting the angle. Great job on the guitar. Hope there’s a second build!

Thanks for cataloging your use of an oil based finish. I've built 5 acoustics and used a nitro spray in a booth at the shop I learned at; now finishing up three more in my own shop and I hated the idea of building and using a spray booth with toxic chemicals. You've really empowered me to step away from the notion that the only finish worth having is a NC finish - thanks again!

Hey Adam - Great job. I watched the series and was most impressed considering it was your 1st guitar. Not many people would choose Ziracote for their 1st one so well done for getting through it. I'm sure your good friend also advised that you go for a mortice and tenon neck joint in future and although you got away with the butt joint making a jig to cut the M&T is not difficult and will give you so much more rigidity. As the wood moves with atmospheric conditions that neck joint needs all the help it can get. My 1st build used a traditional dovetail and worked just fine but does make more work if you need a neck reset down the road. Bolt on necks make so much more sense and I honesty cannot tell any difference in the sound from a glued joint. I've also tried many different methods of fretting and now I fret the board before I fit it to the neck. This allows me to use my shop made press and seats the frets so consistently that I have very little work to do on them in the final set up and saves all that stress on the neck and top. Keep up the great work but I warn you it gets contageous.

Wow great tone on that thing! Blackbird is my go to warm up as well, haha. I've watched the series from the beginning and want to say thank you for putting so much time and effort into it. I just finished my first kit build and plan on tackling a build like this next, so I'll be coming back to this series. Honestly, they're very relaxing and interesting to watch, even when I'm not building something alongside. Cheers and thanks again!

I prefer the neck angle slightly back, like you built it. Better action means more precise entonation. Most acoustic guitars have a high action to cover poor neck building ( twist and warp) and crappy fret work. That guitar has a beautiful sound and sustain ! Perfect build to me ! Thanks for the video!
@SasquaPlatypus
@SasquaPlatypus 6 лет назад
That turned out awesome! I built a Les Paul a few years ago and put a little too much angle on the neck joint so I ended up cranking the bridge adjustment all the way out and making some special pickup bezels to compensate for it. Probably you'd never notice unless you knew what to look for but it always bugs the builder. ;) Anyway that acoustic is gorgeous and I love that upper end tone. Very snappy sounding. You've inspired me to start building one too! Thanks!

Here's this guy who built an entire gorgeous guitar who's not comfortable filing nuts and adjusting saddles, while I'm exactly the other way around. It's way easier and less risky to work on those precision things! But yeah I'm not a woodworker, I wish.

I really really REALLY enjoyed this series. I watched it all over the course of a day and it was very easy to take in and understand. About the neck, and I know this is an older series from about 4 years ago, but since you did a butt joint and the threaded inserts, would it maybe be worth a look into shimming the neck a little bit so your saddle doesn't have to sit so high? all in all loved this series!

In regards to the angle of your neck joint I don't know if you are aware that if you attach the neck and it is straight with the frets installed. You take a straight edge and place it on the fretboard and run it to the bridge. It should just meet the top of the bridge. If you know this already just ignore this. The guitar is beautiful!

Slightly high saddle is better than one too low. Over time, as all guitars do, the action will rise, and you'll have lots of room to lower it without a reset.
