this watch has a lot of charm. i've thought about purchasing it a few times. i love the variety of watches you choose to review which are unlike so many of the other channels who always seem to cover the same time pieces.
As a mechanical watch enthusiast who has a guilty pleasure of collecting Nixon’s I was waiting for Ben to bash the company like most do. Pleasantly surprised that he enjoyed the watch. I bought 2 time tellers for wearing at work, one of which I customized to commentate the birth of my first child. I’ve really enjoyed them. Surprisingly, I have received more compliments on my freaking custom $125 dollar Time Teller than my Breitling , tag, or Rolex. For anyone interested I have worn Nixon watches while surfing for most of my life. Nixon’s have always held up for me regardless how much I beat them up. I highly recommend them.
As a kid, in my mind, this watch was all I wanted, but being over $120 retail seemed like an out of reach dream. Now as an adult who can afford my own things I buy these guys for the nostalgia 🤘
Same here, being a skateboarder, getting CCS subscriptions & seeing all my favorite skateboarders being sponsored by Nixon,I wanted the Time Teller,Rotolog,& the Player watches. They may not be the best watches on the market. But the nostalgia for me beats quality.
I've had a nixon time teller for almost 4 years and it still looks awesome!! I wear it almost everyday and it hasn't failed on me. I love it, and would 100% recommend it.
I would give Nixon a little more credit than a "Fashion" Watch. I don't think they've mastered the automatic movement scene but a lot of their watches mean serious business when it comes to overall build quality.
I had been wearing Nixon watches for years before making the jump to mechanicals in 2015. I was buying them long before I had heard the term "Fashion watches" but I think for what they are, they are a decent brand! And they aren't trying to sell you "affordable luxury" like all of those other clone fashion brands. Luxury isn't supposed to be affordable.. XD
i’ve had mine for 5 years and i’ve used it as a daily. battery died a year ago but as for the gold finish it’s still looking brand new. nothings broken on it and i’ve had zero issues with my timeteller
I love my Time Teller. I have the silver/brown/bronze on a leather strap. My first one had a broken second hand after an impact, and Nixon replaced it with a brand new one for free. Super minimal, retro feel. Nice for daily wear. I don’t care for too many of their other styles, but this was a winner. It just works!
Thanks for this video. I love my Nixon Time Teller which I’ve had for about 8 years. When the wrist strap finally gave up the ghost, I contacted the company & they sent me a free replacement no questions asked! With its minimal, clean, timeless lines, it looks great on men & women. I would love to see if they make the face in other colours eg burgundy, black, tan. I have it in navy but very tempted to get another in green. Love the brand. Highly recommended.
I've had a few Nixons, and I will say these are understated, versatile, really reliable daily beaters. It's like a stylish, more water-resistant version of a Timex Easy Reader. The older models had an expansion bracelet with foldover locking clasp that I preferred, but even the bracelet you reviewed here is, IMHO, better than your average Seiko 5 bracelet. I don't care for most of their other models, but Nixon's discontinued Mellor Automatic is nice, too, even if its MSRP was criminally overpriced.
I'm pretty sure you can get the Time Teller model in different sizes, too. So if you're considering purchasing, just check which size you're ordering and consider which will suit your wrist best. I owned a couple of Nixon watches when I was first getting into watches, and I have to agree with the comments about having reasonable build quality. They also sometimes have Swiss Quartz movements and sapphire crystals. The one I owned even had a Horween leather band! Definitely a step above most fashion watch brands, if that's where you're looking.
This was actualy the first watch I ever bought, and it got me in this fun and slightly expensive hobby! I still wear in from time to time, just cause it started me on watches!
Cool. It's not a watch I would have in my box--but it is also not a watch I would be unhappy to receive. It's a good looking watch, and I have seen similar reviews on NIXON other places.
I have owned a time teller for a few years now. It’s a Santa Cruz Colab. It’s gold just like this one but it has mother Mary on the dial and a red second hand. The crystal has no scratches and I got it when I didn’t give a fuck about watches. After that I got a MK Chrono gifted to me that I scratched to shit and even shattered the crystal. I have a citizen that has 1 scratch on its mineral crystal and I have not worn it anywhere near as much as the Nixon. Wore it every day for a long time. I accidentally broke off the rest bracelet where I had adjusted the size but it still works fine. Been thinking of putting it on a leather strap. It’s a good watch for teens (I was 16 when I got it) and young adults. Itd not exactly for the watch enthusiast. And I don’t think it’s a “fashion” watch either. Nixon to me is a surf brand (skate and snowboarding too) but I really wouldn’t call it a fashion brand. It does not belong with the likes of DW or Vincero. They make surf watches and have expanded into other designs. They don’t deserve the title fashion watch. MK makes fashion watches. GUCCI makes fashion watches. DW and Vincero take shitty Chinese watches and brand them as a fashion watch. But even they aren’t true fashion watches. A fashion watch is a watch created out of pure design and brand prestige. Luxury brands simply design a watch that fits into their appeals asthetic and slap on a logo and charge you $800. I feel like this term has been overused and now people use it to define any watch that isn’t a true “enthusiast” brand.
Nixon's are great. My Nixon 5th element has served me for 4 solid years. A year above when I was "supposed to" take it in for "service"..... It'll be fine.
Nixon actually have a fair bit of heritage especially amongst skate / surf / snow culture. They are fashion watches, but are also more than just fashion watches.
A student of mine wore a gold Time Teller. The gold tone on it was super impressive, outstanding in fact. Yet the folded bracelet is the deal breaker. Thank you for the video. Have a great day.
Before I knew too much about watches I got the black one with gold hands and crown six years ago when I was 16, and wore it every day for about 2 and 1/2 years and I gotta say it never let me down! still have it now, but haven't really worn it since, but have no complaints with it.
Nixon is a fantastic company as far as QC and customer service are concerned. My friends and I have purchased several of their watches in the past, and they have all performed very well. My friend broke his watch and they straight up gave him a new one.
Nixon is a fantastic brand, they are a fashion watch yes, but the variation and creativity in the designs are second to none. As a high school kid into skateboarding and mountain biking, buying your first Nixon is a momentous occasion. I still have my Nixon scout (added a more adult strap) and wear it regularly. Still works and build quality is amazing for the price point.
I just bought the all gold Time Teller Nixon watch with the black sun ray dial. I love it. I just adjusted it to my wrist and it seems much more firm than how it came
This took me down memory lane as this green & gold time teller was the first watch I ever owned. I got it for my middle school graduation & owned more Nixons throughout high school. Nixon got me into the watch game & I admire them for that. Fast forward 9 years & I got myself a Rolex Explorer for my graduation from university.
I had one of this for 3-4 years and wear it every day never took it off really and I lost it in the ocean yesterday and it was the limited edition gold with red face
Had my Nixon watch for 4 years n it still looks good. I’ve even dropped it in water n accidentally showered in it a few times. Put a new battery in it n it works like a charm
I bought one on a whim while passing a watch shop and was surprised how nice it is. Got the stainless steel and black face. Paid $115 Australian ($76 USD)
I bought the same Fossil a while back and immediately sold it to one of my colleagues. Luckily I bought it on special and got my full purchase price back 👍
I had the rose gold time teller like this with rose gold face and to subdials for day and date. Very comfortable watch, loved it, only paid $50 for it and that’s what I sold it for
My non watch friend knows I’m really into watches and he just found one of these at a thrift shop and got it for me for my birthday. I’ve got to say, I love this watch. It’s cheap and I would never have bought it myself but I’m actually really enjoying it and wearing it over my other watches. It’s funny because I’ve actually been looking for a vintage watch with similar case shape. Specifically old seikos and Omegas and I think this might have scratched that itch so now I’m just going to put that money towards a longines or Oris. In think it’s a great little shitter 🤣🤣
Nixon is one of the new fashion watch brands I can respect. I love the look of them but I would never pay more than $100 for a quartz watch which doesn’t have additional functionality.
I recently heard of this brand. I haven't owned anything marketed as a "fashion watch" except a Ralph Christian Prague which is absolutely excellent for the price I paid. Nixon seems to have some really unique pieces, and since you say the quality is on point, I'm going to check them out.
I heard of Nixon from seeing them at Zumeez in the mall, I thought they were the coolest things in the world as a kid definitely sparked my interest in watches. Glad they’re decent for the price. I’m gonna start collecting them
just that it's not a fashion watch, although it is fashion aware, it is a watch brand that also has other products, like caps and backpacks, but it's really a brand specialized in watches
Nixon was the original stylish skateboarders brand! Over the years they’ve washed up in other big box stores but seems to have maintained their reputations
I don't have a TimeTeller but I do have 4 Nixon watches. Love them all ( the Private with an aftermarket bracelet is my fav.). If you can get them for a good price (got all of mine for less than $40), well worth it.
This is the first watch I bought for myself as an adult. While I don't wear it anymore, I can say it's gotten more compliments from "normies" than any other nicer watch I own
I've got a Nixon Mk1 and I love it. The water resistance is a little low for the price point but it has a lot of features that make it good for what I need it for.
I'd go COOL, I own a couple Nixons and they're good, nice solid pieces with miyota movements, the only down is their mad price, they are a great purchase as long as you get them for a third of their retail price.
Just got a Nixon Solar in green and one of their digital, both with metal straps just because they looked good and were reasonably cheap. I got a few Seikos, Casio, Orient, Bulova, Tissot and I thought they would cheer up the collection. I wish the metal straps were better quality because they look fine, but feel a bit light. I guess it was an impulsive purchase but I regret nothing.
Well, at least there is some watch behind the marketing. Not a bad watch, on the contrary, I quite like the look, and even the folded link bracelet fits in with the general '70s vibe. Its major problem is that it runs against Seiko & family, Orient, Citizen - and Orient, for instance, has some quartz, vintage looking offerings that cost less and have a better brand value. Still, if I got it as a present, I would wear it gladly. Cool.
Thanks for putting some light on Nixon The 51-30s put Nixon on the map I have a 48-20 and a 42-20 which are a little more tasteful. When I opened it to change batteries, it looked pretty well-built on the inside compared to other "luxury brand clothing" watches
Nixon watches are good quality. I have 3. I did not pay full price for any of them. I think your watch is coated in Titanium nitride. NIXON watches are made for surfers and Skateboarders.
I have a Time Teller too and a few digital watches from them and I like them a lot. I do think Digital and Analog watches from Nixon are great, maybe a tad on the expensive side when you compare them to japanese watch brands but on sale they're a nice fashion watch brand to check out.
Weirdly, I like the way it looks. It's sort of 70s, but it reminds me of the small amount of good design that came out of the 70s instead of the large amount of bad design. Yeah green and gold are gaudy, but they're also my family colors, so while I probably wouldn't wear it every day, I'd wear that sometimes. If it was $45 US I'd maybe jump at it. As it is, it's $100 US - Nixon has never been a cheap brand. It's quartz with mineral crystal, and I won't pay more than $50 US for a watch with either. So for me, it's better than uncool but not as good as super cool, so I guess that means it's cool. At the price it fails to excite me, but there's nothing really wrong with it.
I say the reason for Nixon's slightly better rep. than MVMT, DW etc. is cuz they aren't as (in)famous. Like most watch companies they do have some half decent designs, though this doesn't justify their asking price. Nixon is at the end of the day, still a fashion watch brand. My experience: Nixon Scout quartz. 100m WR, angular SS case. Only circles on the watch are the crown, dial and caseback. Came on this bund-style nylon strap. 'Bund-style' cuz the sides of the watch case are flat, looks more like an oversized zulu instead. Got plenty of complements when I swapped it for a 70's vintage SS bracelet. The Scout had plenty of charm; it even said 'Be Prepared' on the caseback. Seems to have been discontinued for a while. Yeah, I had a decent time with a watch from Nixon. Does it change my perception of Nixon as just another cheap fashion brand? No it does not.
Cool. Because, while I’m not buying a green and gold watch no matter who makes it, they do pull off that look rather well. And since fashion watches are often an entry point into the hobby, and this one is decent value for money with 100m water resistance, a “cool” rating is reasonable. With a different color scheme I could occasionally see wearing this watch.
Nixon's not a bad watch. They take design risks, and they're decent for what they are. While, yeah, they can be put into the "fashion watch" category, they don't pretend to be more than they are.
I have one of those in black with a black rubber band and I really like it as one of my casual watches. It was a gift though, I don't know If I would have bought it with my own money.
I remember selling Nick's and watches at Journeys and Underground station they were up selling items or bonus items that were discounted with your sneaker purchase
