This is honestly a well informed professional video. I'm surprised this is a new channel! Despite being created 3 years ago. I hope you'll accomplish what you wanted to do with this channel man. thank you for making this video! (Seriously.. i really needed to figure out if it was worth purchasing the headphones or not xD )
Thank you. Great review, and wonderfully concise. I had only two questons by the end: 1) does the cable transfer rubbing/friction noise into the earcup, and 2) does the adjustable mic introduce much creaking or signal noise when adjusted?
I picked one up and got the answers I wanted. 1) Yes, the cable does transfer noise into the cup like a Sperm Whale call through the ocean. It's really annoying. Like yourself, I also have the MDR-7506 whose cable is absolutely noise proof, so curious that you never noticed the difference. Of course, the proprietary connector means we can't swap the cable for a glossly spiral type like the the MDR. 2) Mic adjustement noise is just fine. I still mostly like the NTH-100M, I just hope I can adapt to the bad cable noise.
Thanks for the update. I think I’ve never noticed because I’m almost always sitting with the cable resting in front of me, not hanging on my clothes or moving around much. Rode is lacking when it comes to accessories for this headset. They need a coiled TRRS cable without this friction noise.
Hi ! Thank you for the great review ! Would you recommend this headset for a hypnotherapist ? I am planning to use it normally with Rode NT mic but when not at home would need some attached mic. Thank you in advance ☺️
Seems like it could be worth a shot. I’ve used the headset’s mic for many recorded things without any issue. The two differences between the headset mic and a Rode NT would be low end, so a slightly less rich sound, and plosives, where the headset mic has a harder time fighting hard “P” sounds compared to the NT mic. Could be great for travel audio capture.
DT770 plastic slider-hinge thingies fail regularly. After a few years they get very fragile and crack when you stretch the headphones. Replacements are too expensive to justify. It's much better to get 3d printed parts, which are beefy.
I love this. Yt recommended me this video. Please dont take another year break. Its a great review. I would recommend a tip, though, if you're looking for more subs. Try to have more personality. Make sure that people dont come for your channel for reviews but for you. Kinda like dankpods. Subbed and liked
Unfortunately, the colored Rode cables you mention in this video are TRS cables, not TRRS (includes a channel for the microphone), so are incompatible with this headset unless you want output audio only. The only TRRS cable offered by Rode is black with colored connector indicators (just like the one the NTH-100M comes with).
That’s unfortunate. If I could pin this, I would. I looked on Rode’s shop and could not find the TRRS cable by itself listed for sale. Thanks for commenting about this. People should know when buying this that they won’t be able to buy an extra long cable that works with the headphones and mic.
I had to say outch when I saw you go to place them In a bag, as for field work It's a no go I would not trust that. Studio Inside use only and handled with care. A lot of it comes down to the black plastic speaker cup adjusters these will finally break guaranteed depending on usage. If used everyday probably around six months cracks will begin to appear Despite that issue I find them fantastic headphones, but with a few adjustments, like removing those plastic adjusters, replacing them with small black fine thread bolt and nut with washers. Yes your stuck if you need to adjust them, It's just a case of undoing the screw reposition, then tighten back up. Field work put them In a bag and now you have a hefty set of headphones that will last. This is the only problem that lets these headphones down, You got to handle them with care, they are fragile. Those plastic adjusters won't last even if they are not manhandled. One part is made from a very brittle plastic, there is a lot of weight in these areas. Any movement gives rise to strain on an already brittle plastic housing which just falls apart. Yes lifetime Warranty for sure but Rode must have had shed loads of these returned. 🤔
