Avril wrote this for her debut album, but did not like it and gave it to Kelly. Fun fact, for some or other reason both Kelly and Avril don't like the song. Baffling!!! One of my faves. Kelly still owns it a bit more for me ❤️❤️
I remember Avril saying she wasn't really connecting to it for her debut, but did she say she doesn't like the song? She started singing it on her "Head Above Water" tour, I'd say she still likes the song. (Unless she's explicitly stated otherwise!)
@@kristopherschermerhorn998 yes. I saw an interview with her long time ago. She smiled and said she didn't really like it and it did not fit the album. And I saw a video of Kelly where she had to choose her own fave songs, and Breakaway fell out in the first round and she also said it's never been one of her faves. I'm such a huge fan of this song. So sweeping and melancholy
As much as I love Kelly's version.. I think your right , it is hard to beat the author of the song -sing there own song. And you really feel the emotion of this song from Avrils voice, quite different to Kelly's version. Kelly's video is about her childhood her break away into becoming a popstar and her new life.. breaking away from her child hood experiences and even her fears . Avril if she made a video for this song ( which I will do ) , I think would be more deep and haunting, more lonely - and emotional . It is hard to know what take Avril would have done for this video.. -maybe something like " I'm with you " , "When your gone " , both of which are probably my fav songs from her.
So happy that Avril FINALLY released a fully produced version of this song of hers. Fans have heard the "leaked" demo version for years now and that one was slower. This one though has more of a rock music vibe. Great reaction!
I'm 100% in love with Avrils version. I saw Avril in concert on May 19th then again on the 21st of may(I shamefully went to the enemies city during the battle of alberta during the playoffs🙄) during her Canadian tour and it was just a phenomenal night. I may have cried when I saw her...that just stays between us 🤣 great reaction as usual!!
I think a lot of the lyrics definitely make more sense when Avril sings them considering she was so young and was from a small town in Canada. "When the snow would fall down" instead of "rain" like in Kelly's version. "Wanna feel the warm breeze" "sleep under a palm tree" "Building with a thousand floors" they all click a little differently with Avril singing them. I love both versions of the song tho. There's a sence of innocence and hope in both versions which is what made me like the song in the first place.

I love this version, I love Kelly's version and I love the original demo version Avril recorded too. Similar to you I thought the same about Avril's version vs Kelly's, Avril's feels sad but her original demo feels sadder I think because of the production of it. It doesn't have the rock drums that this newer version has its more of a singer songwriter type feel. Listening to this new version having already heard that makes this sound even cooler because it's like an evolution. I definitely think you should react to the demo version.
I can't believe I'd never heard Avril's version, especially since I was in high school in the early 00s and she was on my radar. I like both versions quite a bit.

I don't know if it fits in to mention it on this point, but what I also recognized on this Album espacially is...or "are"...the DRUMS...and espacially the SNARE. This fast and crispy drums and the high and aggressive snare. I can't remember this from the older albums but I like it. Sometimes changes can also be positive. You feel like 'oh man this is fast' and not only in the really fast titles like 'bite me'.
Definitely prefer Avrils version. She has so much more edge to her. I am not a fan of Kelly, eventho she is very talented too. I feel with Avril I feel more connected to the song. Her emotions come through more. Not as generic.
To me this song is really nostalgic and i can relate too. I prefer this version because it sounds like she feels it. Kelly was more like a good song for a movie (which was included in one lol) but this is elevated in all aspects
This song got me through a rough time when I left my previous job also. That place had good colleagues but a horrible boss and the politics made me feel so sad.
I feel ya, Avril is one of the very few artists that can make me forgot anything & everything when listening to her. It's kind of a gift which is just amazing! 🙃😉
You should listen to Avril’s Demo version its like the same as Kelly but Avril doesn’t really belt out the notes like Kelly in the demo, but Avril does in this version
I'm actually surprised to discover this version was released, cause in my counrty it's just not. I'm living in Russia and I am Avril's fan, I guess from 2007. Even visited her concert in Saint-Petersburg in here in 2012. I know, bad things are happenning now, but still this is politics. Meanwhile Arista Records (guess this company still owns Avril's songs from that period) just blocked all content related to 20th Anniversary of "Let go" in Russia. Feels like shit. Stiil great version of the song. I like the way Avril sings here, like she would 20 years ago. It's very authentic. P.s. I do hope one day this awful happenings will come to an end, and I'll be able to listen to this song legally. Peace to everyone!

I really have to say...well, I mentioned the drums before but I really really have to say that Travis Barker as drummer is a HUGE win for Avril..!! I cannot belive, me now saying this but in terms of professionalism I think Travis on the drums is absolutely the same outta space level of perfection as Avril with her voice/vocals. The level and by which strength he manages the drums is really badass excellence! Few days ago when I saw, him working with Avril, my first thought was: Ouh ouh, Avril...what kind of suspicious and f#c#ed up people you're now dealing with? 😛 Because the first moment he wasn't on my radar and also the fact that he was the drummer from Blink 182.. And optically...don't get me wrong but seeing him after years (without having up to date background context) he really looks badass as f#ck nowadays. But.. Like it is.. After doing some research...also watching him in debates...seem's to be a nice guy.. And then...oh, okay - Blink 182! Everything allright. Smart girl, Avril! Good job, thumbs up - well done!! Grab the good people and then rock'n roll..! And Travis, like I said.. Having him on the drums ends up in also even this "me telling you my life in timelapse-song" (Breakaway) starting to kick..
Imo, the original version is more credible because KC was born in a populous Texas town and competed on a tv show in order to get known. She sang other people’s songs and has few writing credits on her debut album. AL, on the other hand, is the gurl from a tiny reclusive village of Canada who wrote her deep feelings and simply wanted to do music. She went famous overnight, mainly thanks to that.
Remember, this version was still a work in progress and was ultimately dropped by Avril. The Kelly Clarkson version was finalised and polished to be as radio friendly as possible.
@@zahrans This is re-recorded as the original demo by Avril was much slower, this new version has new vocals and more of a rock music vibe. Fans have been waiting a long, long time for Avril to release her own final version of this song and she did it for the #LetGo20thAnniversary
