I waited for this for so long. This is a fast (11 FPS) e-paper display which can be programmed in Arduino IDE. This is the Inkplate 6 Motion, and it is currently in the crowdfunding phase.

I was looking at e-ink displays for a permanently-on display for battery powered projects, but I ended up going with monochrome LCD. They use less than 0.4mA all the time which is the same as a single SMD LED, but can refresh at fast rates.

Great for vehicles, for the back of smartphones (to show incoming messages etc), for medical monitors and anywhere where colour isn’t essential. However, looks like we’ll need to wait a while for prices to come down for this technology become widespread.
