Christy, I JUST stumbled across your channel a couple hours ago and have been binge watching all your videos since. Its rare to come across a channel that is astetic, helpful, cozy, ect and your channel checked all the boxes :D I subscribed instantly.

Good luck on submission, Christy! As another SJGA client, I was also pushing myself for a 2-month revision timeline before sub, but I ended up taking half a year. My friend told me that revision is such a luxury, and that no one reads a book and thinks, "Wow I wish this writer had spent /less/ time editing this book." I ended up selling in a week, and I do think it's because I took my time with revision and took it as far as I could. Your hard work will definitely pay off!

If/when Project Teacup gets picked up by a publisher, I'm going to smash that pre-order button SO hard, which I encourage others to do as well if they're able to (or add it to your birthday/christmas wish-lists as a pre-order if your family does such things) because pre-orders actually really help the writer and publisher. 🌟⭐🌟Congratulations on finishing it! I'm crossing my fingers, toes and internal organs for you! Christy, with your love of Anthony Doerr's writing and your interest in Istanbul/Constantinople, I wondered if you've yet read Cloud Cuckoo Land? I usually watch these writing vlogs on Sundays when they come out, and often I'm feeling lazy because it's my off day, and these vlogs always give me motivation to spend a little time on my writing projects. I'm really thankful for that, because I'll take any little chunk of time or progress.

Hey no kidding. Im super close to finishing my own fantasy novel too! Im almost at 90k words and Im 2 chapters away from completing the first draft! Getting so excited that I managed to write 2,200 words during my writing session yesterday.

Your way of writing / editing is not ridiculous. I'm coaching writing in an academic setting and this is a common "writing type", whó often have dificutlies in editing. We always advise those types to take almost half of the entire time they have to work on a project to the editing process, since writing under time pressure is hard for this type. Maybe you want to look into these writing types and strategies to help, if it troubles you.

I've been feeling the same way about a commissioned painting. It's been months and I hoped to finish it in March or April, then it was May... So I spent last 10 days in crunch mode and now it's finally almost ready. Still not sure though when it's really all done 😅 For me, crunch mode brought me to burnout and more severe forms of neglecting my health, so I'm more sensitive now and I really try to protect my boundaries. But I have the same kind of brain as you, sometimes there is so much drive, it's hard to let loose and listen to my body. I hope you can crunch without losing yourself in it ❤❤❤

I'm here for you! In similar crunch mode, working on my database that I thought was finished before I can write the most important chapter of my thesis 😵‍💫

Writing is rewriting. When you spoke about a chapter late in the book that was having a rewrite as the location had changed, I thought of Jane Austen's cancelled chapter to Persuasion which we can still read today. I bet if I rewrite this comment I could make it better but.. nah this is already a second draft. I believe you recently read Daphne duMaurier’s Rebecca and I read that she lost a whole draft of the book which included a horse and hound fox hunt and a suicide scene taking some sort of toxic paint that gave her a sort of waking dream of tar being shoveld down her throat. At least that's what I recall. She must have left an account of the lost draft. Sometimes, don't we wish we could peruse drafts of our favorite books. I guess in Austen's case her brother or someone thought the cancelled chapter was pretty interesting and published it in an afterward. Well that's me being chatty this Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing your ongoing project teacup journey.

I'm also a chronic re-writer when I'm revising!! 🤣 It's definitely not the most productive way to revise, but I simply cannot snap out of it, but, hey, whatever works haha! Why do you think this is the way that works for your revision process? For me, I think it's because it helps me really immerse myself in the scene or chapter I'm working on.

Just sunk in, your comment about you could edit a paragraph down by 30% word by word which takes a lot of time, or you can just rewrite the whole paragraph. Faster. I'm thinking maybe fresher. Anyway just appreciate your sharing this. "Develop", word by word changes or "evolve" entire rewrite.

باعبتاري كاتبة عربية، أعتقد أنني أُفضل الحديث بالعربية؟ على الرغم من اتقاني للإنجليزية. لقد كنت أتابع فديوهاتك كتحفيز لي لأستطيع متابعة الكتابة، وفي الآن ذات طريقة لتعلم التفريق بين اللهجات الإنجليزية (بشكل عام اللهجات العربية أكثر تفردًا وصعوبة في التفريق بينها). رحلة مشروع كوب الشاي، كانت مثيرة للاهتمام، وأشعر بالسعادة لأجلك أكثر حتى من مشروعي، إن روايتي أكبر بكثير من 100ألف كلمة. وذلك لأن اللغة العربية في الوصف لديها تعبيرات وأمثلة مطولة. أحاول تعلم علم (البلاغة) لأقصر من حجمها. ولكن مع مرور الوقت شعرت أنه ليس لدينا في النشر العربي اهتمام بعدد الكلمات، اهتمامنا يكون بعدد الصفحات لأنه من يحدد قيمة الكتاب النقدية، وثمن طباعته وبيعه وهذه الأمور. أكره الصيف، ولذا فإن الأشهر من ابريل إلى أغسطس أكثر الأشهر التي أكرهها، ولكن من الجيد رؤية شخص يعتبر هذه الأشهر مفضلته لأنها تمطر وتثلج فيها، من المثير للاهتمام رؤية الأشخاص من الجنوب كيف يستمتعون بالشتاء في حين أننا نذوب من الحر، لوقوعنا بين مدار السرطان وخط الاستواء. وكذلك أتفهم حالتكِ الصحية، أعاني كذلك من إلتهاب الجيوب الأنفية، وأعرف كم هو مهم أن يكون الرذاذ (البخاخة) موجودة في مكان قريب منك دومًا، لا احد يعلم متى ستقرر أذنك وأنفك ورأسك كله التآمر عليك وجعلك، تشعر كما لو أنك محشور في صندوق زجاجي صغير. من الجميل أن يكون لديك تابلت متنقل غير حاسوب المنزل، إنه يسهل الكتابة والتعديل في أي مكان خارج المكتب. استمعت لأغنية (Bewitched) بالأكابيلا، لاسباب خاصة لا يمكنني سماعها بالإيقاع الطبيعي، كانت جميلة جدًا، لم أكن أعرف عن المسلسل مسحور كثيرًا. أعتقد أن رحلة إنهاء رواية ما رحلة خيالية، كمن أخطط لإنهاء عملي في مارس، والآن بعد أن بدأت في كتابته وعرفت حجمه الحقيقي إن انتهى قبل أغسطس سأكون محظوظة وأعمل بجد! يسرني أن هناك كتابًا مازالوا يكتبون 4 أو 5 لآلاف كلمة بحماس، من المؤسف أن أغلب الكتاب الذين اعرفهم يكتوبن أقل من ألف كلمة لأنهم يرون كتاباتهم مملة أو انشاغلات حياتهم جعلته يفضلون الراحة في مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي على إناء عملهم والذي هو جميل جدًا! الطباعة باللمس كذلك وحفظ حروف الكيبورد مهمة، لولا أنه في الكيبرود العربي لدينا حروف مقذوفة بعيدًا مثل (ذ) وهو يطابق التكوين الصوتي لمقطع (TH). وقليلًا ما نستخدمهه في كتاباتنا اليومية خارج أسماء الاشارة. من الجميل رؤية تحديثاتك، استمتع بها كثريًا، أتمنى أن يترجم عملكِ يومًا للعربية وأقتنيه في مكتبي! لكِ كامل أمنياتي بأيام كتابة فعالة ومثمرة. وحياة سعيدة.
