6mm ARC is a great round. Have a 18” gas gun an a 22” bolt. Thing about the 6mm ARC is that there are 2 different sets of load data. Bolt or Gas, can load bolt way hotter than gas. Just gotta be careful not to mix those up.
I worked in a gun store in 1980-81, and at the time, the .243 Win and 6mm Rem were common deer cartridges in Texas. The most common bullet weight was 80 grains, in rifles with 1:12 twist barrels. But the long range game has changed things, so the 90 grain bullet is considered light in a 6mm cartridge.
6 mm arc can be made from 6.5 Grendel brass. You just size the neck down and fire form the brass. When I got my 22 arc I made my brass from 6.5 Grendel brass. Nice looking piece of hardware.
6mm arc is very similar to 6mm ppc that is one of the most accurate cartridges ever. I bought one over a year ago love it. It really shines in a bolt gun and reloaded. There is two different pressures for bolt gun and gas gun. Hopefully it takes off in a bolt gun u can match .243 win ballistics and velocity in that tiny package. My gun is carbon stock carbon barrel weighs in at 4lb 11oz. Feels like a red rider BB gun so light. But is capable to over 1000yards. If u watch the rock chuck Olympics the only hits on target over 1000 was 6mm arc I believe going off memory.
This is an amazing, but until recently, underserved cartridge. I’ve taken deer with it, as did my son on his first hunt. It’s versatile, accurate, soft shooting and extremely long range capable! It looks like this rest of the industry is finally catching on. Alpha and Starline are finally making brass, and there are no shortage of amazing bullets for the 6mm. Happy ARC’ing! 😂
Got lots of data on light bullets for coyotes and prairie dogs. And some loads for deer. Lots of chrono data, grouping etc.. I want to build another one! Love the 6ARC..
Been loading 6mm ARC for my 24" AR build. Hornady black 105 grain seems to be the benchmark for factory loads. But for hand loads I've got some 58 grain Hornady bullets to load and damn do they boogie. I also got some 115 grain nosler projectiles I'm anxious to try.
Love the 6 ARC I have a bolt action and two AR upper receivers. My one upper receiver has a Noveske 18" barrel with headspaced bolt and it's a tack driver. I've been deer hurting with mine for a few years now and I use the Hornady Black to hunt with. I have the Arken hunting 4-16 with the Christmas tree reticle on top of my bolt action and the Noveske upper receiver.
The last rifle i got was the Ruger American Gen2 in 6 arc with the 22in barrel. Pretty nice. Perhaps I should've just went with a 6 creed since I got a bolt gun. But I liked the idea of the 6 arc doing everything I was wanting it for with a little less recoil, and at only $600 for the rifle.
You will really like the 6ARC. I have been using it for 'yotes and prairie dogs for a little while now. I load mine with 87gr VMAX and send them out at around 2900fps. Reloading is easy, there are several powders that work well for it. Have fun and happy independence day.
I think that’s the most 21st century looking bing-bang I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to range demonstration and seeing you bang some steel at long distance. 👍🏼
I hope that stock came with higher cheek risers, if not you will probably have to mount an LPVO to hopefully get it low enough to be able to see through the scope.
Great cartridge. I've got an AR and a savage switchback and both shoot lights out. Can't wait to see you sight it in. I would put Arkins new EP 7-35x56 on it!
I’m looking forward to your future videos on this round. I chrono’d my reloads a couple of days ago and, from a 20” barrel, I got 2928 fps average with single digit SD using a 90-grain ELD-X bullet and LeverEvolution powder. The round is extremely easy to make hits with up to 425 yards, the farthest I’ve shot the round.
SGAmmo is clearing out the Hornady 7.62x39 sub-x 255gr subsonic hunting load. Amazing how the silhouette of the 6 ARC matches my beloved unobtainable 5.45x39.
That cartridge looks fricking AWESOME!! It’s, should I say, almost…. cute! But it looks damned sleek and sexy too. It looks fast! And WHO_TEE_WHO ….. I would say yes, you should load for it. As you said, not many are making ammo for this, but there ARE a lot of 6mm projectiles out there, and from all reports I’ve read… a person can really get some hot rod and very precise stuff out of this when you load for it. Anyway….. keep it up man!!! You’re filling the reloading and group testing gap that ol’ Johnny from Johnny’s Reloading Bench left behind.
Very cool! Id like to see it with a 20-22 inch barrel. I think I'd go 4-16 on the scope, that will give good mid to long range performance ( and decent close range ).
Hand loading for the 6mm ARC will be a little tricky, but you can try loading it at ten percent from lowest load and work up at one powder kernel at a time just like loading for the 17 hornet.
6mm ARC is basically a 6.5 Grendel necked down to a .243 bullet. I really like the ballistics compared to the Grendel. The 22 ARC is just again necked further to .224 bullets.
I have an Atheris firearm in 6mm ARC and they are made to order,, but i have a pulsar thermal scope on it. I also have a Atheris 6.5 Grendel with pulsar thermal. My Valkyrie 224 has a pulsar thermal. I have shot yokes at 1 mile with all 3 guns above and I have Sig 716 and used my thermal from 244 and shot a yote at 1.13 mile. Love my pulsar thermals.
Have a CMMG Endeavor & a Savage bolt gun thru Sportsman Warehouse only it’s a Green (110) over the years got all 3 different ammo weights the black is made for the gas gun but both are excellent shooters didn’t know the ammo is that hard to find as far as optic Arken 6-25x56 on the CMMG on the Savage 4-16x50 absolutely outstanding optic like them over Vortex Strike Eagle better clarity and less money to boot.
Not a bad cartridge. Most people will never shoot it at the distance it’s good to. The huge plus is it uses a .243 projectile so you can cook up some NASTY hunting rounds from varmint to hogs.
Focus Shooting LLC has a great channel on RU-vid and makes uppers for AR-15/10's. The 6mm ARC I picked up from him is GREAT. Accurate and flat shooting with knockdown power similar to the Grendel!!! Cheers!!
1-10 lpvo’s can be heavy and sacrifice some clairity with a small exit pupil. So some ppl get the 34mm or run it at 8x or get a 2-10x vortex or Leopold, or get a 1-8x for a little less $ and less weight. Up to you just my 2c. I like my 1-10x but it has its drawbacks.
For some reason, I knew it was 6mm ARC. I was at a buddies earlier, and he had some Hornady ammo in 6mm ARC too that he just picked up. Happy Freedom Day! It's even better cause today a new law passed, allowing Louisiana residents to conceal carry without a permit.
You definitely need to get a bolt 6mm ARC to see that side of the cartridge. It's like a totally different cartridge in a longer barreled bolt action model.
From what i have read a lot of people are loading 105 and 108 grain pills. Starting to collect items for a AR build and build off a zermatt origion action.
You can also try HSM Ammunition 6mm ARC V-MAX - 75 gr, Tipped Point Super Shock 95gr Ammo(Hornady SST bullets), Trophy Gold Extended Range 95 gr 6mm ARC(Berger bullets). I just pick some up from Primary Arms for my custom bolt rifle.
105gr BTHP Hornady match bullets, starline brass, 26.6gr shooters world precision rifle powder, fed 205 small rifle primer, 2.20 OAL - if you want to give it a go.... Varget would work well also, very similar to the shooters world.
Ok so the 6 mm ARC is based off of the 6.5 Grendel which itself is an excellent cartridge and a good deer catcher . I have another cartridge based off the 6.5 Grendel and that is the 6mm ARTURBO IMp. This was developed by Robert Whitley who has a couple of other great cartridges designed by him as I shoot two of his both at 600 & 1000 yards with excellent results for both. Hand loading only no factory loaded ammo but shoot lights out! The 6mm AR Turbo shoots a 107/108 grain bullet accurately in the 3100+ velocity range.
Me too. Do you know if Hornady bought the rights from Whitley for his 6AR? Or just steal the design and tweak couple of the dimensions. Mine shoots wonderfully. Never hear anything about Whitley son. What happened?
@@johntalbot119 No they probably “tweaked” something but stole his idea! I also shoot his 6mmSLR and it is an extremely accurate caliber. I’m thinking of having a .243 converted over to it and use it as well hunting! The 6mm AR Turbo is excellent for deer size game as well! Mr. Whitley used my 8208 load in his description of the AR TURBO on his advertising.
@REllsworth I did that, too. 6.5 Grendel isn't easy to come by either. I'm just glad Starline Brass started making it. Always on backorder, but it eventually gets there.
Here in Illinois, we can't have any scary military style guns, so I had to get a bolt action Howa in 6 ARC. Ruger was supposed to chamber the American Predator in 6 ARC, but haven't yet that I've seen. And if you find an Ruger American Predator rifle in 6 ARC, can you review it. I love those Ruger Americans and I love the 7 ARC too.
Whooty..... reloading 6arc is the way to go 58,65,75 grain in a 20 in. I took 5 yotes ,2 does and 1 buck last year with mine in AR platform just remember try not to use short base dies a little harder on the brass... Keep up the great videos as always..
@@HumJ3 I’m in the U.S. My comment was meant to imply that Commiefornia has gone so far away from the ideals of freedom and liberty that it’s almost its own country. I’m hoping that liberty and freedom will return to the entire nation, including the “Left Coast”. I’m in Michigan. Our coastal waters are unsalted and shark free! 🦈 🇺🇸
Hey WTW, You won't believe this, but 20 years ago when I lived in California, I suggested this exact configuration on an AR-15 platform, on a website called Cal-Guns forum, And got laughed off the site! No one thought it would be a good idea, but now they're selling like hotcakes And everyone wants one. Just figures..
Seems like Hornady loves to put their “In-House”, creations (I’m about to vomit 🤮 over), @ speeds of 2,750. If I’m not mistaken 6.5 Creed is 2750? I shoot .260 Rem!
Had almost a humpback look like a Browning shotgun. If you're not using it for a truck gun, put ALL the zoomies on top and an offset red or green dot for the close up critter catching.🙃
