Hey guys, this is just a quick look from my first playthrough with the MG-30. Full and thorough review in the works, once I get used to all the ins and outs. So SUB and BELL if you want to get notified when I post it!
I had the GE200 and I think these little modelers are really great alternatives to people who can't afford anything past the sub $300 mark. I graduated to the HX Stomp and feel like my tones got significantly better, but the GE200 will always have a place in my heart since it got me through a lot whenever I had bad days and just wanted to play around with as many sounds as possible and let my creativity flow. Gave me years of great memories. Awesome review.
My first modeler was a GE200 too. Nice little device. The MG-300 did sound and even more feel better though. The MG-30 is my current everyday device. Love it
@@aptfx yep, just sold my Mooer for the MG-30 and I was really surprised his much better it sounded to me. More character in the amps and better responsiveness to my playing.
Great demo Sir❤. Pls suggest me the best one from Boss GT 1, Zoom G3xn and Nux mg30 tone and featurewise. Which one will be a better buy? Tnx in advance 🙏. Love from India 🇮🇳❤️
Holy Toledo! All the low end promptly showed itself at the 8:30 mark! Looks like this thing DEFINITELY has low end, ya just gotta make sure everything is dialed up correctly. 🤘😎🤘
Great man, I think I could go for one that by now, as a Jackson lover, miss your Kelly, as a V lover, DUDE THAT IS SUCH A GREAT V!!! Keep rocking, greetings from Mexico!!!
I‘m very much looking forward to your Review. There is little with a Metal perspective and I think the default setup and presets are not very „modern metal“ oriented. I hope you find the time and mood to see what to get out from this thing. :)
I think with all the modelers out there, they are all similar except interface and i/o- puts. ( some better at one thing or another). Price determines some quality of sound and outputs but not interface. Kemper, Helix, Fractal =$$$ Hotone, Mooer, Nu-x, etc $$ With the modeling community nowdays you can achieve fairly decent sounds on almost unit with enough tinkering. Get something in your budget with an interface you can work with and connectivity for the task you will use it for. Thanks Taylor for this preview. Can't wait for your shootout and tone videos!!✌
I already upload my new song after update the new firmware 2.6( Admin Just Send Me The Tester Update ) but u must waiting Officially Firmware... have new amp n new effect.... Nice Nux MG30 Review
cool little unit! sounds mostly great! "Die" VH4 basically means "The" VH4, but they used the wrong determiner. The masculine of The is Der, and the feminine is Die. But an amp is masculine in German... they just wanted to be "edgy" :P
got one. the stock ir's are ok but one I got to using Choptones Ir's(Boogie/EVH blended) it was sounding gig-ready. They definitely need to make good on that 5150 promise
Hey Taylor. Just picked this up for an acoustic board build I'm doing for some Acoustic duo gigs we have coming up next year and would love to see how this unit can be used with acoustic guitars
@@roryt1985 how’s that? I’ve had Axe 3, Gt1000, Helix stuff, TONEX… the bare bones amps are what matter most to me and how authentic they feel to play.. dynamics and pick attack response etc. I can’t say that today helix, TONEX, and fractal are far apart. They’re all great. I haven’t tried Nux. Boss kinda sucked.
You meant thrash, obviously :) Answer is: yes, just like many modelers it can, but it requires some specific equalization (both pre- and post-overdrive) to be applied in the preset. If you need a few general tips in this area, let me know.
Hi. Can Nux mg30 use it 3 foot switches for select patch 1,2,3? Or can the additional 2 foot switchs connect to the unit and use it to select a patch? Or this unit just can only switch bank up/bank down?
One thing I realize about Nux modeller after trying my friend mg 300, that Nux amp and tone is like prepared to be just good right out of the box, almost artificially good to me, it's hard to adapt to the easy tone dialing while I like the raw amp tone in my Zoom modeller, it feels satisfying when you dial good tone in it, but at the same time I want to try Nux so it's a dilemma lol
Hey Taylor! Maybe this will be a stupid question, but have your tried it live? And how does it perform after tweaking and uploading your custom metal distortion and plugging it in the speaker? Is it possible to get some tight distortion instead of crunchy type? And which was better: ToneX from Amplitube, or Nux Mg30? Thank you!
Hard metal tone doesn't give any information about what the unit does, sorry. You can buy $10 cheapest distortion pedal plug to the PA directly, you can get almost the same result. Clean tone and slightly tube overdrive tone kind tones are needed to be explored. Also chorus reverb all other functions.
Honest opinion: Zoom G6 or nux MG30? Just got the Zoom G6 (used) and second guessing. I like the tones, I don't like not being able to turn on/off the drum track via switchfoot. I may get this to A/B before I return the Zoom.
All of the modelers and plugins out there could lead to some serious options paralysis. That said, it seems like you really have to work to find gear that isn’t useable now. Also, this unit looks very mooer inspired in its physical design, but it seems like some design cannibalism is inevitable in the world of modelers
@@TaylorDanley and my shortsighted ass sold my ampero one. I'll probably get a Nux or another similar modeler for when i want to play, but not be tethered to my laptop
We shall see. I remember the mg300 being really impressive, and this sounds small and boxy in my first impression (unless you use the choptones IR) so 🤷
The MG-30 is a bit bright with many guitars and the default presets compared to the stock MG-300. There are quite a few ways to correct this: You can change the pre-eq in the global settings. You can change the output eq in global settings. You can use the eq Block. I think one reason could be that the device is also meant to be used for bass - so the defaults might be something like a lowest common denominator. The power amp sim of the MG-300 is fixed while the one in the MG-30 is more complete. This also means there sometimes is a bigger non-linear effect using the amp master knob - depending on the model. if you take the time to set it up correctly it does sound better than the MG-300 (more dynamic, less compressed) Besides the Choptones there are also some other good third party IRs (e.g. from Leon Todd) in some presets. One difference to the MG-300 is the quite low latency of 2ms.
Did it too for a week with both units. The MG-300 is by default quite a bit darker and more compressed. There is a vid of Jimmy Lin which uses the original MG-300 IRs in the MG-30 and compares them side by side quite analytic. The MG-30 comes out significantly better there
@@aptfx I dunno check out Emir Bucio's review and a couple Helmut Shatner's reviews... Just about every review I find plus my own experience puts the 300 above the 30 for pure tone. The 30 def has a better construction and more tonal options, better quality timing effects but over all tone still goes to the 300. Def not worth the price difference in my opinion.
Helmut Shatners review was in favor to the MG-30 actually. He made a mistake in one video where many people jumped at drawing conclusions. I had both units in parallel for a while so I don’t draw this out of my ass. Most people just quickly dialed in the same tones they had from the MG-300 and with that being significantly darker and more compressed it was to bright on the MG-30. Jimmy Lin did take the time for a real solid comparison with even the same IRs. Just look at his video. I had exactly the same difference with my two units. People are just to quick to draw conclusions nowadays - it’s a pity
Well.it hit me I found your schtick... You do that thing with your face to make one eye kinda pop out and look kinda funny alot in almost every single shot I see of you.
I’m sure there is. The stock presets are CT - , which I’m assuming means choptones. But yeah it’s weird that it’s the 1st thing you hear when you load it up
Different youtubers and guitar players were be asking by Nux to build 4 presets for this unit. Chop Tones so Chop tones was involved. The IR used by this preset is just built-in the Unit. edit: I see in the newest firmware update 2.3 that Choptones using his own IR's in the preset. But you can't select these IR's for your own sounds with the unit. Maybe you can reuse them by using the QuickTone software editor. (haven't test this)
Just review the fuckin' Kex again! 😜 No, its a joke. You should have talked about the IO of the unit. Id love to see reviewed 2 products: PEAVEY 6505MH and fuckin' MARSHALL ORIGIN 5. Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
Do you get cab simulation with the stereo outs? I have a Nux Cerberus which is awesome but when running it in stereo only one channel gets the cab sim.
Sure, its an amp/cab simulator with the ability to load custom ir. Thats the whole point of these units. Cerberus on the other hand is more of an fx pedal sim.
Does anyone know if the NUX mg30 has a bypass function? I've searched high and low but can't seem to find an answer.. any help would be much appreciated!
It would be interesting to put it head to head with the mooer ge200.... I see some of the connections seem similar to the boss gt100... in fact I would love to see you put through it’s paces with a drummer in a live situation ....... I would love to see you review the boss gt100.... great vid man....
@@aptfx it really is. To the point that I wasn’t expecting it to be as noticeable as it was. I’m not a big metal guy so I can’t speak to the accuracy of the Dual Rec, but the Deluxe Reverb actually sounded more Fender-y instead of just a generic clean amp.
Not that it doesn't sound good, (it does!) it's just a bit too much low-end that you prefer that doesn't taste right too me! (Just sayin!) Metal up your %ss!!🤘🤘
Man at first that 3rd party IR felt meh, but then after going to the stock ones it sounded way better XD Not the best sounding IMO, but maybe it will sound better to me in a mix. Assuming you can load your own IRs?
No disrespect but..those of us not super down with metal can not hear minor differences in metal. It all sounds about the same. Boo boom chug chug.. I know that pedal does so much more you never looked at or tried. Yeah I know you are a Metal guy.... But pandering to the masses can be good for your numbers.. I know you can do it...
