Few months ago Aqua Illumination unveiled the largest size of it's incredibly popular Nero series in Nero 7.
Hands on, unit feels well made. It feels hefty and while it got stronger and bigger, 7 series maintained the low profile design that Nero series is well known for. I
t pushes tons of water (up to 4000 gallons per hour to be exact) and effectively puts it against it's sister company's MP40 flow rate. It's good to see this unit come out because there aren't many big name brands pushing this amount of water in our industry and having an affordable, quality option is always an welcome sight to see.
This is solid option for those of you guys that are looking for budget friendly top tier brand product that offers quality product, support and service.
I'm sorry that I am reviewing this unit so late. AI Actually sent this unit for me to check out months ago but due to complicated health issues in the family, reviews for many products have sat for a bit.
I hope you guys enjoy the video.
Happy reefing!

Sorry I'm late to the party, I just subscribed! 😆 I like the low profile of this and may try one in my 135 gallon fowlr. Thanks for the vid!

I have been using Nero 5s for more than 4 years now. I mainly chose neros because of quiet operation. Very good powerheads.

I'm happy to hear that. Any quirks or improvement that you want to see from the powerhead?

@@Reefscomwhen they first released Nero 5 it was lacking a nem/small fish guard but this has already been addressed. The only thing I can think of for improvements would be some sort of magnetic mount that would allow to angle the power head 90degree range or a motorised Nero holder for sweeping movement.

@@estonianreefer2851 I like the sweeping movement idea for sure. Back in the day, we had a seaswirl that did this.

Nice video and thanks for creating it. Quick question, do you think the Nero 7 has enough power to push a stream end to end in an 8 foot long tank? I'm not a reefer, I'm a fish guy venturing into African Cichlids and piecing together my dream tank of 200 gallons and 8 foot long. I'm interested in circulation for moving poop off the substrate, increased current for Rift Lake fish use to swimming in streams, and creating surface turbulence for good aeration and oxygenation.

Hi! I tried max settings on my tank, which is a little over 6ft wide, and I was able to move things towards the other side of the tank. However, I'm not sure if it will move detritus with certainty with that extra 2ft of real estate. Other variables like rocks, woods, and substrate will play its part as well, I'm sure. I'm sorry for not so clear answer.

Hi and thanks for the response.. I plan to keep the rocks at a minimum and very low in the tank since Lake Malawi non Mbiuna cichlids are open swimmers. I think I'm going to start with one mp60 on one end and adjust or add another if needed. I was hoping the N7 would be a budget friendly option Thanks again.

I love the Nero pumps. I just use short pulse on my 5's.

Nice! Short pulse is a good touch. 👍 how is the intensity of the pulses?

@@Reefscom 100% - keep in mind that they are on an 8 ft tank. They are supplemental pumps to 4 WAV pumps and 2 gyre pumps but these look like they'd work better since they provide more flow.

@queencityreefs nice! That sounds like good combination of flow!

The Nero 3 is very loud. My first day with a brand new one today. It's horrendous. Maybe it will bed in but I won't hold my hopes high.
@Reefscom
@Reefscom 5 месяцев назад
It shouldn't be loud at all. Have you contacted your place of purchase or ai for replacement or solution?

I have the 5’s. It would be nice if they would add more flow patterns!

It shouldn't be an issue to incorporate Vortech's programming over for them. Let me reach out to them and see if this is possibility or if they have any thoughts of offering more flow patterns in the future.

Had a few ....ended up ditching them bc the blue fan blade was so ugly....plus my older slw30 had more flow in a smaller format and cost 350$ less ....

what is your setting for the pump and how are you using it? How big is your tank and how did you position them?
