I just installed (certified HVAC installer) 3 zone Mitsubishi mini split unit in my home. I only wanted to cool/heat the bedrooms separately at night. We tend to have very warm nights out here in Southern AZ. It will allow me to turn off my 5 ton American Standard unit at night and only cool the bedrooms. I'm looking forward to lowering my electric consumption with this decision. According to my calculations it will take me about 3 years for this system to pay for itself (savings in electrical consumption during the Summer months.
@erikgutierrez3613
@erikgutierrez3613 2 месяца назад
That's a crazy payback period for a new HVAC install, but I guess if you're not running a larger 5-ton system and only using smaller splits (which are pretty damn efficient these days) I can see it making sense.
@jamram9924
@jamram9924 2 месяца назад
@@erikgutierrez3613 My American Standard central system is a 16 SEER where the Mitsubishi 3 zone system is SEER 18. The difference for me is that I am only cooling one master bedroom during our hot Summer nights. I also have other contributing factors like R48 in the attic and in the walls. All of my windows are triple paned with PVC/fiberglass reinforcement. All of these upgrades were done over a period of time since they can be very costly. My goal was to make my home a Yeti cooler in the Summer and winter.

If you would install the solar mini splits, they’d run solar during the day and off 120 or 240 at night.
@jamram9924
@jamram9924 2 месяца назад
@@user-ln7of9gs4s I considered factoring the costs of solar panels, installation and permits. Through a program from our local utility company, an energy audit was conducted. I chose to invest in upgrading my windows and insulation when I remodeled my home. That was a much better investment since my electric bill is 2/3 less than my neighbors. However, solar panels are on my list but I need to budget that on my list. As a homeowner, there are other priorities that take place before solar panels. I do not want to lease them either.

i hook up my refer tank to the vacum setup. Pull a vacuum through all of it. isolate the vacuum side from the Refer side with another vacuum service port tool, as soon as my decay test passes. weigh in the charge while breaking down the vacuum setup, and you never have to worry about letting your deep vacuum rise while you completely redo your setup from vac to wiegh-in, and you eliminate trips and steps.

I really like HAIER. They hold up well with much thicker plastic than Fujitsu & Daiken. Only complaint is when they do fail, which is very rare, Ed’s doesn’t stock any parts and getting directly from GE outside of a warranty repair has been difficult. They do have great tech support, IMHO. Good video w/ helpful tips. Thanks!

Very clean install as usual, not much to nit pick. But to properly set a pad you should dig out vegetation, dump a few buckets of 3/4" minus (if needed) and tamp it down. Code in my area, you must affix the pad to ground. Taking two 2' rebars and drive them into the ground along the sides of the pad. Then strap the rebar to the pad. Also the equipment should be affixed to the pad. So the Hef-T block should be screwed to the pad with a 1.5" screw and washers. I think this is very important because if someone bumps or leans on the heat pump it could kink or tear the flares on the copper lines causing a leak. Overall a very nice install.

the equipment definitely needs to be strapped down on the exterior, but i've done countless installations in los angeles and never heard of anyone putting rebar underneath the pad lol

My house is 4 years old. All the appliances are top end GE. Monogram in the kitchen top of range laundry. Haier is a Chinese company that bought GE out. On my washer the control board shorted out (actually common on these units) and took the drain pump out. The machine ran until it was time to drain and would stop. The drain pump was out of spec (ohmed it out) so I ordered a new one. Still did the same thing that's what lead me to the control board as it couldn't be anything else. Huge burn mark on it. That board was almost $200 and had 17 connections on it. They actually came down in price since mine went. Now that these units have been out for a few years many others have had the exact same issue. I just replaced the fill valves on it. They were working fine but were squeaking really loud. Sounds like a lot of issues but they do a great job on the laundry. Had a minor issue with the DW. A welded bracket came loose on the roof on the inside tub. I bought some heat heat epoxy and fixed that. I'm not sure any other brands are much better. Stay away from LG fridges. Bad compressors. Everyone poops on Mr. Cool but I put one in on one of my two garages. It works great so you never know.

They bought out fisher and paykel too which is a huge brand in Australia and nz there appliances uses be bulletproof and extremely high tech. Haier essentially stole all there tech, closed all the factories in au and nz and started selling rebadged Chinese haier stuff under the f&p brand. It was all just extremely disappointing as everyone knows the f&p brand for being durable and long lasting which none of that is true now.

@bills6946
@bills6946 2 месяца назад
Install surge protection on the disconnect switch. Soft start is way overpriced and unproven to save you energy or increase the life of the compressor. Clean your condenser coil once a year, replace your filters every 2 months and test your capacitor in the spring and the beginning of August. That will keep the tech away in most cases.

I'm in So. Fl I have 2 split units and a mini split in a garage. I put 3 surge protectors on the disconnects. On the split systems as soon as I moved in I put hard starts on them. House is 4 years old. Already replaced an ECM blower motor in one unit and a condenser fan motor in the other unit. They are builder grade Carriers. I have 2 A/C closets. After that ECM motor went I cut holes in the lower panels of the doors and had louvers custom made for more return air and to help with static pressure. I'm in NW Broward. My backyard over the lake is the Everglades. We have gators in the lake not joking. Had one on my patio a couple years ago. Tossed a water bottle at him and he hauled butt back into the lake. I actually enjoy seeing them.

I understand you're reusing an old outdoor unit so its a needs must but I'd never put a multi when singles can do the job. .By using a twin you increase the amount of time energy and cost with zero benefits. I get most of the kit was free issue but personally, I'd only recommend multis if outdoor space is an issue which it obviously isn't here... Now if you lose one you lose both. Two splits mean lose one lose 50% capacity. I guess this is basically an tutorial/advertorial video but it's quality install and if it fails it won't be an installer issue.
