hi, ive got an hks intake ordered and will have it in my fn2 next week, im buzzing to hear the sound!!! ive got a 2008 silver fn2, 94k on it, ive done all the cosmetic things plus new brembo brake discs n pads, vented n grooved, poly bushes all round(epic) new shocks n springs, paint correction, new fogs, led indicators, its totally stunning now, now its time for some power mods, i want the hks for the sound to make it just sound amazing, getting it fitted in a week! i honestly cant wait!

@@FNLEW hi, sorry for the late reply, ive got my hks in, mine never came with the heat shield though, and i didnt strip out all the excess parts that you did, but the sound difference is amazing, and ive just put a custom built cat back stainless exhaust on it too, the exhaust exits out one side only so the car sounds amazing now! time for some mapping next!

I'm actually using your video to see how the original air intake is mounted. I bought a second hand FN2 which already had an aftermarket filter but they removed all the hoses and just left them open. So trying to see what needs to go where.

The purpose of the cold air intake is to suck cold air not hot air.. maybe see if you can cold box the filter to help with that.

The heat shield is helping combat heat from the engine and I haven't encountered any trouble yet. If it effects the cars response then I'll look into it. 👍🏻

@@FNLEW Thanks bud. Just a quick one - I know you've done your gearbox fluid as I've seen the video but I wondered if you think the gearboxes on the Type R are fairly mechanical/stiff. Compared to my Type S it's more "notchy" I guess. Super fluid when driven, but you definitely have to be positive with the gear changes. (1st gear at junctions tends to be a bit notchy/stiff)

Ive got the type r fn2 2010 myself. Its a real nice car to drive i know!😍 Have not done any mods on my fn2, its pretty much original. Just watched this Lew thanks for the comment ref the filter. Amazing sound defo thinking about upgrading. Would you have been better to leave the OEM feed in for more direct air flow to the HKS?

No problem buddy. I've been asked that before and I've also found out at a later date that it's actually in the hks instructions that it should be left there. One thing I will say is it's a lot of winding plastic piping that feeds away then back up towards the filter. so I couldn't see how it would benefit that much when it wasn't sealed to an airtight air box anymore pulling the air through it. I could be wrong though

Good exercise mate. While you're ordering a breather hose, get yourself a 2 port Oik Catch Can. You have the room and your engine will thank you for it if you drive it hard. :) the OCC will literally be plumbed between where you've fitted that corrugated plastic hose. :)

Had the same Hks on my fn2. My reaction to its sound was exactly like yours...But it was only sound and nothing more, I've changed to a cold air intake and I saw a huge performance difference than Hks. (with both inductions my car was mapped) It was much quieter than Hks but at least the fn was much faster!

Should have kept cold air feed in to keep cold air coming into engine bay . Fitted a pipercross straight onto mine (ep3 type r ). Also the pipe you deleted coming from Idle air assist valve looked like was still open on induction pipe. Should be plugged

There is a bolt in the induction pipe to keep air compressed and I wasn't prepared to lose a fog light so this was my best option for what I could afford.

No problem at all mate. Ah that's strange. Maybe it does on some. The main thing people mention is heat soak but with a heat shield it tends to be absolutely fine.

thanks buddy.. just that I test drove e fn2 type r with hks.. it sounded the dogs dangles.. went light 💩 off a shovel but the car when I drove 3 hours up to Oldham.. were a polished 💩 lol but with my late mums inheritance il get a half decent fn2... 1 I'd seen flushed the fins in the air box ep3 style

vtec on these sounds awesome, i had a hard choice between this and the carbon teg box. but since my car was going 2 get mapped, i went with the teg box. b4 map and after, the teg box gives better gains although much less noise, btw i have a milltek non res, why did you go with the res version?

Everything joint related came with my kit so I'm not sure on the size but filter wise, I think there's 2 sizes. It's the bigger one you need. Think it's a 200 size?

Hello mate, I'm trying to decide which intake to get for my fn2, I'm being pulled towards this hks intake, but can't ignore everyone's comments about heat soak etc.. Did you get the kit with the heat shield? I can see it sounds amazing and is meant to have the best sound, looks good as well, don't mind paying the price as long as it's worth it lol.

I can honestly say since I've fitted it if had no problems with it at all and I've kaned it on hot days. The heat shield really helps. It's definitely worth the money.

how come you took the intake piping off? surely its beneficial for it to feed cold air to the mushroom?

I never thought of it that way but it would have just been whirling around in the resonator I think with nothing pulling it through.

Most people if not all buy a type r for the vtec noise . I guess some do for the handling and type r cult . The HKS makes you more noise which you will like but when you’ve been racing around in your type r and your engine is cooking hot all your doing is sucking in all that hot air ! I think it’s all about the noise and that’s why it’s bought not for performance. Saying that it makes a nice noise and when people hear it go by it does its job letting them know what a type r is all about VTEC 🤣🤣

No it's not essential it just saves weight.

If you want to replace the foam filter again, do you have to take the whole mushroom off? I read earlier, you're suppose to change the filter every 6k miles.

I do it once a year and all you have to do is undo the bolt in the middle of the filter and the mesh comes off separately for you to put another foam in.

It was just given to me as a spare but mjc automotive do a full hose kit for it

Just wondering, does the performance still feel the same? Hear a lot of the time that there’s a load of heat soak and the engine runs crap when warmer weather comes around.

I haven't felt either an increase or decrease of performance with it yet. Maybe on a track on a hot day then fair enough but nothing with normal road use.

FNLEW that’s good to know then. Did you go from a completely standard air box to the hks? Or did you run a smoothed out + k&n panel? Might have to invest in a TSS for some more induction noise 😂

How does this affect the ECU, do you need to make any adjustments?

The Car will still run fine without any ecu tuning but with it properly tuned you can get more potential out of the car with this mod fitted.

@SunzOffski I've done the same thing, gone back to standard it does drive nicer but sounds so boring.

@honda1979 I've put the hks back on as I missed the roar. The flat spot is only there if you floor it at low revs which I dont do much anyway. Still got to put my cold air intake on.
