As someone who has played all the games, people forget that it was Homeworld 2 that added in a bunch of mystical balderdash about the hyperspace cores. The soft sci aspects of this story look bad only in comparison to the first game. But saying this game doesn't live up to the first one shouldn't be surprising. First one is one of the best games ever. I am more disappointed in the lack of tactical depth to the combat. The base system is fun, and i believe they will improve it a lot over time.

Definitely needs some patching. The pathing is pretty bad, ships get stuck on terrain, ships lose pathing assignments, ships lose protection orders, random hiccups in campaign missions (i.e. mission 1 i got bugged from making recon ships forcing a restart right away, capturing data spires sometimes just don't capture regardless of enemy presence, etc.). IMO, this wasn't ready. There are too many bugs that can quickly become frustrating. RTS absolutely must nail their pathing, and this is a big miss for me.

DLSS can be set to quality and you won't notice a difference in graphics but the framerate will be higher. Full resolution will not use DLSS. That's why your framerate is so low. Full resolution is native. DLSS performance will be very low resolution. Not recommanded for high fidelity visuals. Quality is the best setting to raise the frame a bit and while keeping visual fidelity.

Right, i just finished the asteroid mission yesterday, and here are my thoughts. Graphics, UI and Music are excellent, they got that right. My biggest gripe is that it seems a bit easy? Like in h1&2, even in kharak if i selected all my ships, and told them to attack everyone via ctrl+box dragging, i would lose, Here, i am wining, i also did a couple of tests with using my mothership as a big wrecking-ball by putting all my ships in sphere formation and telling them to guard the mothership. I read in a reddit post that you can do that to win wargames-solo, haven't tested that one yet but i hope it's not the case. Sadly it feels a bit fast and arcadey. Looks like there are no modules on ships to focus firepower on ect. :/ One major thing this game needs is at least an OPEN SPACE MAP. Every map is some sort of space-junk field where there are enemies everywhere waiting to spawn. Example: very first mission, i am thinking to be a smart-ass by placing my fighters IN the tunnel, it was a major disappointment that when the game decided it was time, it started spawning fighters out of the same tunnels i had hidden my own, like come on guys, i should be able to sniff-em out from there 5 mins ago, this moment felt totally meh and took out every aspect of strategy from my game. This made me actually angry. The story? everyone is moaning about that one but i'm old and i don't give a rat's ass about stories in games, especially non-historical titles, as long as they didn't make everyone into a Transgender-Innuit i'm happy, you can tell they uglified S'Jet and it's hilarious, at least they didn't made her fat. Too many interruptions for explanation or even cutscenes, h1&2 and kharak has the same problem but to a much lesser extent. Overall there is no reason not to enjoy homeworld, i can still lock on a small fighter and enjoy the a good game, but i find it 10$ overpriced, should be at 50$, some people would argue for less, but fidelity costs more than programming these days.

Yeah when I started this stream, I was thinking I'd just finish the campaign in 3-4 hours because it was so easy. Then mission 7 wrecked me and mission 9 is even tougher (for me). I did like you, F4 attack all lol. It stopped working mission 7 onwards. I also think there's too many interruptions, especially earlier on. Again, mission 7 doesn't really have them anymore. I don't know why, but the gameplay gets much better at the Naraka gate. Fewer interruptions and tactics required.

I am extremely disappointed with the story. It is very short and feels strangely detached from the rest of the Homeworld saga. There are only the briefest appearances from any other factions beyond the Hiigarans and the Incarnate, and only the most fleeting mention to past events. The antagonist is framed as this incredible threat to the galaxy, but comes off as weak and deranged; whose motivators are childishly shallow. I think they were beginning to attempt to tell a story with more inter-personal drama and interactions, but nothing is given enough time or development that it could achieve this. I do not know who this story was written for, but it lacks sufficient homage to past games for the long-time fans, and there is not enough compelling substance there to bring in new fans.

I saw the lead designer from Titan Quest 2 play this game in one sitting, on hard. He's something of an RTS aficionado though. So for regular RTS players, I think they should go in expecting a short campaign. And yes, Imogen did have bad hair both from a fashion and a technical perspective. On top of that she was a whiny insecure Californian teenage girl style character, better suited to a YA romance novel. She could've been the exact same character, but the story could've better dealt with it if the script zoomed out somewhat to focus on what was happening across the galaxy, and how desperate a people would have to be to put a teenage in charge of their last mothership. Characters and character design matter, especially if you're trying to make a character led drama where previously the series was not like that. So Imogen as a character was a failure in both a narrative and an aesthetic sense, but, also on technical level. That rat's nest was animated like something from a 2003 PS2 game.

Yeah Homeworld campaigns are always short it seems, the pro RTS players finish the first game's campaign in 6-7 hours. If you skip cutscenes I've seen some do HW1's campaign in 4-5. @@LauftFafa What would you like me to elaborate on? How the AI is broken, loses orders, and in the case of capital ships they make up random orders so they go off and attack things on their own? Sticking with AI, want me to elaborate on the strike craft combat, and how they care more about maintaining their formation than combat maneuvering? What about how strike craft, ALL of them in a formation, will all shoot the same target instead of distributing fire like the 20 year old predecessors did? Would you like me to keep going about this? What about the missing mechanics? Ballistics were promised, but you can play the first mission with the training drones and see that they clearly not. They completely misunderstood what ballistic shots meant for HW1, and only missiles have it. What about how "Intelligently using cover" touted in the fig campaign, and how that just doesn't exist. How about the missing tactics? Of course this kind of harks back to the intelligent ship AI from the old games, that is missing from the new one. Tactics actually changed how ships acted in combat, and now they just decide whether ships engage enemies or not. Its pathetic. How about the capital ship combat? Why do capital ships literally just stand still? I don't expect them to zip everywhere, but the game was supposed to have ballistics, so shouldn't they be trying to dodge a little bit? The old games had this. Should I go on about the absolutely tiny ship roster, the stupidly rigid rock-paper-scissors balance, the overall mechanics missing that 20 year old games did better. Let me know what you'd like me to elaborate on. I've backed the game since 2019, and I'll tell you exactly what, how, and why its a bad game. Even if we remove all the Fig fake crowdfunding garbage, its a pathetic feature set for an RTS in 2024 when indies are putting out Stellar Warfare and Nebulous. >also notice most peoples who dislike it dont elaborate while we who gave it a thumbs up are ready to write walls of texts What? Did you intentionally ignore the reviews you dislike? Meanwhile, GBX is literally paying for bot reviews. Its trivially easy to go find them. Check these totally real people totally not elaborating on anything: jmp.sh/x20l0CIN | jmp.sh/ZYW4HPMr | jmp.sh/9lCorJgP The most helpful reviews are all negative for a reason. The player count is down to 1/9th of its playerbase less than a week after launch for a reason. The game is bad. $25 indies have more meat than what you get with this mess.

lol the game is atrocious, the campaign has the smallest number of missions out of the 5 games, the missions themselves are either carbon copies from previous games and the rest are just rubbish. The story is trash, most boring event in the homeworld universe, too much character interactions, none of the previous games had a 1/4 of this and it worked well, it suited the style of game, the characters themselves are cringe, the leader of the incarnate is just an immature little brat that wants to conquer everything, there is no development or explanation as to how she mastered progenitor tech and a mass such a huge fleet under the nose of the rest of the galaxy. The game play is the worst of the 5 as well, least amount of ships, most ships are actually useless, only designed for the campaign not for player vs player gameplay, or even against a.i in skirmish, they removed the research tree, they removed sub systems and the ships movement and pathfinding is worse then the orginal age of empire games, frigates move far too quickly, almost the same speed as fighters which is insane, destroyers and battle crusiers are tanks sure but very weak at destroying other ships. Box selection is very wonky, tactics dont effect the ships visibly, it seems to be a numerical adjustment but doesnt effect the ships a part from them chasing visible enemies. The steam forums cover most of it.

I don't care about the campaign at all. Which is odd coming from a HW 1 & 2 veteran. There's valid criticisms of inconsistencies within the narrative, but for me the problem is the game play and mechanics, which are broken (pathing, AI, etc), and in my opinion just not good (or at least could be much better, see HW: Remastered) It's easier to recognize these problems in Skirmishes, where maps are shoe box small, have resources just scattered across the 'floor' of the maps. No tactical positions to secure, etc. And the AI just A-moves combat units at you as fast as they can produce them. This may be partially due to the very small maps, but as soon as the enemy detects you, it's just A-move a line of units and production. No formations, no battle groups to secure strategic locations that are far enough to be impractical to easily move units too on a whim, so planning a battle group is needed. It's just point blank attrition. You just que production as fast as you can produce and let the bad AI just spreadsheet your battle in the center of the tiny map until numbers diminish and map resources are gone, then walk up to their dumb sitting mothership and punch it till it too goes away. Oh and you can't target capital ship subsections to disable systems (engines, hyperdrive modules, etc) for even micro play. Mobile games have better and deeper 'strategic' elements than this game.

EDIT: Pumpkin Pie 8235 came back 11 days after this reply and spewed hate and lies about my lack of coverage of anything negative about HW3. In my videos, I covered numerous and specific issues I had with the game. Pumpkin even went so far to say, "when you cant spot design issues like... faulty UI elements" along with, "How comes you only point out positive stuff", when in this very video I spend a long time at 5:05 pointing out a major UI bug. Pumpkin, who has been a long time viewer, obviously has not watched my HW3 videos and are blindly throwing their hate for HW3 at me, ironically hurting the content creators who point out the bad things which is what they're asking for. Original Comment: Someone just a couple days ago was complaining to me that the campaign was too short because it took them 13 hours. I'm on track for 9-10 hours and I've played RTS before. It's because I died a few times on mission 7 and 9.

It doesnt strike me as you've played RTS before when it takes you 12 hours to beat this and you cant see any problems with the singleplayer campaign either, when you dont have proper knowledge of previous HW games, when you cant spot design issues like liniar tech research instead of tech tree research, ships not being responsive, faulty UI elements, lack of subsystems targeting, faulty terrain cover system, unit behaviour, total lack of skirmish or MP coverage and the many shortcomings there (which is the main thing for an RTS btw) etc. Now you hide behind the fact that "this is not a review", the viewers can see how the game really is, you dont need to point out anything. Oh, so it's just meaningless lets plays now? How comes you only point out positive stuff and are so defensive of the game then? No, you have become an yes man afraid to say anything bad. For me you have lost any credibility and integrity. "Be specific with what you dont like" give me a break, people have been very specific and it is very obvious what is wrong, only if you are unfamiliar with RTS can you pretend not to understand. If you want to see how it's done watch MandaloreGaming review of HW3. It is in part because of people like you we now only get lazy half arsed money grabs as games. Unsubscribed.

@GamerZakh Im not talking about tiny bugs which can be easily patched, Im talking about serious faults which damaged the game beyond repair. The only one I've seen you mention is the replay system not working, and the UI only after you've been told it was too intrusive. I'm talking about rolling down sleeves and actually talking what's wrong with the game, being critical and pushing to save the RTS genre. Homeworld means a lot to me, I have waited for HW3 for a very long time. I even wrote to them in 2017 asking for a sequel. I would have done anything in my power if I had the chance to help sort out the issues and have a solid game which wouldnt flop on release. Do you think I like to hate on HW3? It pains me to criticise it, I am sad to see it tirn out like this, but I have no choice I have to call out faulty game design in the hopes others will maybe jist maybe learn. You had the opportunity to play it way before even the demo in february if I remember correctly. You mentioned nothing about its flaws. Granted it was just a wargames showcase back then, but I would have pointed them right away the big massive UI for example and the unresponsiveness of ships and lack of other systems already visible in that. If it werent for people who cared like us, they wouldnt have even delayed it until May and we would have gotten a broken big bloaty UI which made it unplayable. So much could have been saved before release. For decades we still only have AoE2 and SC2 to play as RTS, all the others are dead, the RTS is in a coma, because you cant find any games in multiplayer because nobody plays them because they messed up things like HW3 did. Now all hopes move towards Tempest Rising and they have been made aware by the mistakes of HW3 on their forums. Please better stay away from it if you are only just going to superficially cover it. Homeworld was one of the greats, it was the RTS of a generation, up there with AoE, SC and C&C. This is not just a generic game which comes and goes, everybody says a few words on it or creators make a quick buck on it and move to the next thing, it is a legendary franchise and it means a lot to many people. It had big shoes to fill.
