Hi Joey! I can tell you are very caring towards these dogs and I really love that you’re stepping in to help them. However Aunty and the Mum are very very timid and when you grab them and pet them, it’s making the fear worse. It’s called “flooding.” (You can search up about it!) The dogs are frozen in fear, not enjoying the pats. When dealing with dogs like this, it’s best to keep your distance and allow them to come to you in their own time. It’s very terrifying for them when you grab them. They’ve probably had little to no human interaction, and if they did, it was most likely abuse. When they are being pat, they are far too scared to care whether it feels good or not and doing this over and over again won’t do anything unfortunately. I recommend a dog trainer with these guys or sitting down, not talking, avoiding eye contact and just staying with them. Occasionally throwing treats will help them come closer. Also avoid as much handling as possible until they show signs they’re okay with it. Let them come to you in their own time! This is not intended to be hate in any way! Just a little advice for someone who has worked with animals.

Yes i agree. The time is ticking by. I have nothing against Joey, but aunyt and the mumma is a difficult case. You dont grab them like that. They are so afraid and they anxiety are at a high level. Joey test to give her CBD oil. Always have treats with you. Find out what they love. And yes you have them in smaller place first, but they can see thrue it, so its big for them. You should have them in a bathroom, little bathroom. Dont be afraid to ask for help Joey. There are proffessionals out there. Have the dogs seen one of your own dogs? How did they react? Its also good for an abuse dog to be in pack, then they start to trust you because they see the other dogs trust you. But if i was you. I would have placed them in proffessionals hands. Because this is a whole another level of abuse. It have been a time now, and they should be around people now, just watching from a distant, all the time, and then they will come to you. I hope you do the best for them Joey. These fear-based behaviors don’t improve until the underlying issues have been dealt with. Further, as the fear worsens, so does the problem behavior. Dr. Dan Estep, PhD and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB), notes that, unfortunately, early and perhaps subtle signs of fear - ears pulled back, tail tucked, avoidance - are often discounted as things that all dogs do. If these signs are ignored, the signals may become more obvious and include panting and dilated pupils. Even then, it may be possible to distract the dog from the fear source. But, over time, fearful dogs act more intensely, become harder to distract, and then become destructive or reactive. Only then, when the problem is much more serious and harder to resolve, do people seek help. That’s why it’s so important to recognize the signs of fearfulness in dogs and intervene before the behavior becomes more difficult to deal with. According to Dr. Estep, “fears have behavioral, physiological, and subjective components.” Some dogs flee in an attempt to avoid the stimuli that elicit fear; these dogs may hide under the bed or behind their guardian, or simply turn away from whatever it is that frightens them. The appearance of some dogs’ eyes change when they are afraid: the pupils may dilate, or more of the sclera (whites of the eyes) may be visible in an expression known as “whale eye.” This may be the result of a dog watching what frightens them by moving their eyes so they can see it without looking at it directly. Or, a dog may scan an area repeatedly in a highly vigilant manner. Fearful dogs may also adopt telltale body postures: crouching in a lowered body position or lying down and freezing. Many dogs whine, bark or make other distress vocalizations. A fearful dog who is forced to confront or contend with what’s scaring them may become defensively aggressive while still exhibiting signs of fear.

My family and I rescued a German Shepherd from a breeder. Because she wasnt old enough to have puppies yet they kept her in a place where she never saw any humans. She was sooo anxious when she came, wouldnt let anyone touch her or even see her. But after like two months and lots of treats and lovings, everything worked out! She is now the SWEETEST most loving and cuddly dog ever.

@laurenedge6392
@laurenedge6392 11 месяцев назад
@emcaitlin as a person who has had chihuahuas for years and whose parents have bred them, this is not normal. Chihuahuas actually are very confident if raised properly, i.e. like a dog and not a delicate baby that needs overprotecting. They're also highly trainable and loyal just a little stubborn at times. They do often have genetic aggression issues unfortunately due to bad breeding and being smaller than everything around them does make them naturally nervous and cautious of new things just like other small animals like rodents and birds. Being small in our world is scary. But if exposed to the world properly and safely they are actually quite confident little guys :). These chihuahuas have been unsocialised for generations and the mother has probrably had to fight to survive. I hate to be that guy but joey needs to be taught how to interact with nervous dogs if hes going to continue rescuing because honestly, he's going about it all wrong. He's being way to threatening to the mother and the older pup.

I assume the dogs have been severely neglected. They haven’t been socialized, probably kept in horrible conditions in cages and have had next to no human interaction besides for food and water. Their fear will dwindle more with time. They don’t currently know if you’re good or bad they just know you’re different. Thank you for showing them love!❤ They definitely deserve nothing less. I hope you find love as well because with a soul as pure as yours they’d be a very lucky person❤️.

It may be beneficial to introduce a confident dog to the fearful ones. They may open up better to another dog or animal versus a human due to their previous situation. They can see the positive interactions you have with the confident dog and learn from them.

They’ve got triggers, so hands coming towards them. And feeling chased when you approach them, so patting from underneath and also getting them to come to you. Having your back turned to them with your hand stretched out behind with chicken. If they are hungry enough (you should exclusively hand feed them) they will learn to come to you.

I think that the fear comes from not having much human interaction. When they see you, they get startled because you’re much bigger then they are. Smaller dogs typically will be more fearful and cautious than bigger dogs (because of their size.) Their size with them being not understanding that you aren’t a threat, makes them very nervous. It takes a lot of time to desensitize them to human interaction and to gain their trust. My small dog was the same way when we adopted her but she got used to us. When meeting new people, she is still very cautious and picks who she trusts carefully.

You should cover three sides of the enclosure with newspapers or blankets so they feel more secure. And add a bed or two and some blankets outside of the carrier for them to burrow in. You’re doing so much great work for them, but they’re going to be nervous in that wide open exposed space with nothing else but that carrier, which is becoming a crutch. I have a chihuahua and they can be nervous even when they’re well adjusted and happy.

My dog is a rescue, she had the exact same reaction to us as the mother, it took her a good year to get used to coming out the kennel on her own, even then she would hide under sofas or tables from the slightest noise. She was terrified and I mean terrified of brooms,mops, anything that looked like a long pole. So I came to terms that she must’ve been abused in her previous home and just loved her as much as possible. I never yelled at her even if she did something wrong. Used a gentle voice. And now 6 years later, she is my brave little baby that even barks at the front door. I love her to death! 😊

Hey Joey you do amazing ❤. A tip to help reduce the anxiety nervous behaviour. It's most likely The lack of socialisation. That is a critical learning period for dogs and they never had that. Spend time sitting with the nervous dogs In the space and let them come to you. It can take hours but spend a couple of hours sitting with them and not forcing any interaction, don't reach to them or try to hold or stroke ,they will come round. When they do come to you gently stroke them under the chin and below the head its less intimidating. They will slowly trust you but it needs a lot of time. I have a degree In animal behaviour and dogs are my speciality. X

i have fostered for a local dog rescue for 11 years... momma's issues stem from neglect.. not out right abuse.. but the abuse you see from neglect.. it will fade with time, she will get better, but, depending on how long it's been going on and how deeply it's ingrained in her, there could be some life long issues.. whoever adopts her just needs to be prepared for it.. esp if she had a nervous disposition to start with.. we've got one guy who we've had since he was 8 weeks old.. was with another foster before that.. he got adopted out but came back a week later as their other dog didn't like the new puppy.. and we just wound up keeping him.. (hubby wanted a "truck dog"... lol..) his whole litter was skittish as they get.. he's still a ball of nerves.. loves lounging around the house, running around the yard, but does NOT want to leave the house and go anywhere.. people come to visit he's likely to be found cowering behind my legs... he is 3 now.. and has started getting a little braver.. but.. no idea what is up with him... and from what i have heard from the folks who adopted his siblings.. they've all been like that... never any hardships on any of them...

For the shy ones, get a really tasty snack -- like ground meet or PB, or something they really like. Let them have it and stoke them on the back while they eat. The mother’s and auntie’s anxiety is likely because they hardly had any human contact and I wouldn’t be surprised if when they did it was abuse. Rather than forcing them to get pet by you and putting on your lap etc. I would recommend keeping a distance and rather letting them come to you because while you have good intentions you may actually be increasing there anxiety by trying to force it on them. With dogs that anxious the best way to build that trust is to let them come to you. Hope that helps. I have so much respect to you for everything you do for animals, it’s so inspirational ❤

Neglect. Just looks like the result of neglect. She wasn't socialized and now she's fearful

Literally Joey you’re the kindest and Daniel is the most generous considerate person. Both great people. Always good content to watch

Unfortunately there isnt always abuse when they act like that! Lack of socialization causes then to act the same! And with that mant dogs in 1 home none were getting proper socialization or care :( feral dogs act the exact same and I have fostered a ton!

Her anxiety is because she's essentially wild. She had NO socialization which is causing her fear. It takes time, but they slowly get better and better.
