Yes! I mentioned you can if you'd like in this video! I talked about it more in depth in a video last summer sometime. I won't be doing that. I only pinched about 12 and have a couple thousand more in the Grow Room! It's an excellent option to have though!
OMG You have an entire shelf of Snap Dragons!! You must be peanut butter, because I'm "jelly" girl!!I love them all. Sunflowers do fantastic in Winter Sowing - any time. I put 4 seeds in a milk jug, but I think you could do about 9. I'm in Colorado Z 5b and I saw snap dragons popping up in other people's south facing front yards months ago. So I know those would do well winter sowing as well. Peace🐔🐾🌱☮
This is my first time doing a cut flower garden! I’m so excited! I’m praying to God for success, I’m not bribing God, but I am growing them for my church! 🥰🌷🙌🏻🙏🏻
@ A Dunn God knows what You are doing to Praise him with your sisters and brothers in Church, so do not Worry mam. Before you were Born 💝🌻 Our Holy heavenly GOD Father know you would do that for him. Hallelujah. That is predestination. Hallelujah hallelujah 💖💖🌎❤️ precious Lady. Go for it. Happy humble greetings from Suriname
You could propagate the tops you cut off, just stick them into the soil block. Water them regularly first couple of days they take so fast. I had last year tripled the amount of snaps, just from the tops and created so another succession planting.
*You are a great guy my friend LOWER HILL FARM, but more importantly a good teacher. You also came across as very genuine and willing to share all that you know. May you grow in wisdom, I wish you abundant crops, happy gardeniiiiiiiiiing!!!*
I really appreciate these video’s on seed starting, it is very informative. And I’m feeling brave! Yes I can do it! But may I say again, you are such a hard worker, I might be 20 yrs. Older but I am inspired by you! So thank you Nicole.
I want to do soil blocks you make it seem so Wonderful - I just so chicken to trust it🥴I started some of mine a few weeks ago Basil is looking 🤗 did Rudbeckia yesterday I forgot about doing Babies Breath!!😳 And I did winter sow some Rudbeckia not up yet….
My frost date is about the red same This was helpful to know which seeds to start. I plan to start the same seeds tomorrow. I adore baby's breath.🌹 Thank you for the info.
I'm watching this video while my 3 yr old is playing on the floor. When you said "lupinis", he popped up and said "she's planting blue penises?!". I about died 🤣 I had to pause the video because I was cracking up
Thank you! You are awesome! Thank you for helping us and sharing the flower journey! I still use my ‘cuse mugs from school and 2 shirts from I bought on M street at my graduation in ‘00 ❤️
I love your videos! Aside from the very informative and satisfying plant growing, it always contains one or all of my favorite F words: flowers, food and furry babies!!!! Hi Bloopiees, Hi Mila!!! ❤️
9b here. My first set of zinnias are about to flower but I’m also seeding queen lime red this morning too for some summer color. I haven’t grown them before so I hope they grow as fast as the thumbelina and Cali giants. Also, I giggled at the stepmother sowing. That’s just called working smart! 😉
I have the snapdragon rocket mix... it’s Panorama. I collect all my own seeds from year to year. They have a bronze tone to them., makes them shine. Love them. 💗
I've been experimenting as this is my first year growing a cut flower garden. I thought I was going to kill a bunch of them and as the weeks go by my seedlings just keep looking better! Thank you for giving me the inspiration and the proof that these beautiful flowers can be grown in NNY. Watching your videos just encourages me to keep going.
New subscriber here - Love your channel so much and have gotten lots of inspiration!! Started my snapdragons yesterday. I am very excited to follow along!
I just absolutely love you and your videos, so informative and helpful! Your energy and passion is so contagious. Question. Curious, how many did you plant all together of the snapdragons?
I was wondering about the snaps because I seeded a tray of mixed ones and I noticed the cotyledons on several being a different colour than others. I’ll keep an eye on them and see what I got in variation. When we get takeout I started holding on to the resealable containers too and they get to stay depending on how many clusters of mini soil blockers they hold 🤣😂
Yes! I believe I mentioned that in this video that you can use the cuttings to grow more. It's not worth it for me to do just the 12 I snipped but it's a great idea for someone to try!
I have tried both methods for snap dragons and pricking them is so much easier. It is also easier to have a full tray of snap dragons without empty spots as the germination rate is not always 100 percent
Lol! I found a huge Syracuse mug at Goodwill the other day here in Maine and instantly thought of you. I thought about sending It to you, but wasn’t sure how you felt about thrift items. Either way it gave me a good chuckle while I was there. 😁
I love your videos, so encouraging. I had dahlia seeds on back order from last year and still out of stock when I called them, so I replaced it with . I’m 5b zone. Do you think, if my seeds get here soon, I’ll have enough time for them to grow from the heat mat to the seedlings stage and beyond ? I’ve failed with them before, but watching your videos and others, I really want to try it again (and again, and again) Thanks, I love you, your family, your furry and feathered friends and your easy guidance.
I replaced the out of stock dahlia seeds with lisianthus . I’m in zone 5b and I haven’t received my replacement lisianthus seeds yet, but I’m worried I won’t have enough time for them to grow. I have a heat mat and a small portable greenhouse in my cold basement .
There might not be enough time, depending on your frost date. They usually take 140 days or so to bloom! You can always save them and start them early next season!
I am shocked it has not arrived yet! I paid extra for priority. It should have arrived 6-10 business days after I shipped. If it does not arrive by the end of this week please let me know.
Do you say seeds at the end of the year? Like Snapdragon seeds. I had bought a pack of a beautiful deep fuchsia snapdragons at a local garden store. I had no idea what they were called, so I saved the seeds. And now I can have them every year. Wouldn't it save you so much money, if your never had to buy seeds for your flower farm?
I’m also in NY 4b (just south of Auburn). Brown eyed Susan is wild here around the pond, is the Rudbeckia you’re starting annual only because you cut it? I’d love to grow Irish Eyes but I’d prefer a perennial so I don’t need to replant.
Yayyy!!!! My last frost is about the same! I'm gonna start like you today to!!! Yeah zinnia are so easy to grow! My cinnamon basil and my zinnia the one seed challenge is from your seeds. There doing great, I posted them on your grow along fb. Im confused as to if we can post anything or JUST the pics of your seeds for your grow along lol. Im confused cus I see many other posts on there that are not for your seeds? So either others are not listening or we can post about other stuff, example someone posted about a good company lol. I posted about my delphinium sorry I seen ur post afterwards. Lol love your pizza lid holders!! I used to use them for my Barbies 😂 FYI don't eat panda express!!! Food poisoning alert lol.
The Facebook page was intended to be a place to share about the Grow Along but it's being used as a general cut flower page. I have a few rules about self promotion, etc. Many people are trying to use my audience to grow their own, so we delete posts like that. But in general, I think it's just a cut flower community page at the moment. I'm not sure which direction it will go after the Grow Along ends.
@@FlowerHillFarm duhhh I should of known lol it's a zinnia they grow fast! I started mine and it's ready to go out lol but I can't so I may up pot it to a mamma bear pot lol!
What's Growing On!! I started my snapdragons, Costa mix, Rocket mix and Potomac mix, Basil mixed varieties, baby's breathe,2 varieties, and "Hirta" Rudbeckia, don't remember the other flowers included? Not great baby's breathe germination because it's way too hot here! I wanna try any who! Good luck with your ENDEAVORS everyone!
Plastic bags are banned in New York State. We do not have them in abundance here anymore. My first thoughts on using them is it would be difficult to see the seedlings progress through the bags and I honestly think it would be MORE fussy getting them on and off to check on the progress. Not a bad idea for someone to try though!
Wow. 2 months those small cell blocks and they did not appear root bound - at least not the one you took out. I had always thought you had to pot them up. Hmmm. This must have something to do with cell blocks as opposed to plug trays.
Everyone I start snaps, they get super leggy. Barely any of the stem is I’m the soil. Because it says to not cover the seeds. Can any of you offer some advice?
When you're starting your snapdragons does moisture buildup under the dome hinder their germination? And do you have to put the seeds in fridge or freezer before planting the seeds?
Hey just a question about rudbeckia, I tried twice to grow the Goldstrom or black eyed Susan variety as well as the red and Sahara both times the Goldstrom failed to germinate, the seeds wer from 2 different places but same result how do you grow those ones the yellow ones with black centre? I only lightly covered with vermiculite should I have left those ones completely uncovered?
You are so hopeful.exceptly since we lost our grandson in august in car crash it’s been so hard. I had to knee replacement and they so swallowed I can hardly walk thanks for you peiceious . Thanks Judy
I absolutely loved this video learned enough to get seeds to germinate but they had such spindly thin stems what did I do wrong? How do you make the medium you put the seeds in initially? Sorry so many questions I so badly want to get this right thanks for any help you feel you can give me
Wonderful video lesson. I searched for 4 hours to find this video because it is the best technique on RU-vid for growing flower seeds in soil blocks. Also, I found it magical that a tiny soil block will produce a five-inch plant. Yet, since I am planting only for my home flower garden I am exploring whether to use mini soil blocks or the six-cell plug tray inserts. I live in Zone 7.
Hi from update NY too!! Last year was my first year growing dahlias from seed and zinnias it brought soooo much happiness!! This year I’m growing ranunculus, snapdragons, zinnias and more dahlias!!! This video helps tremendously thank you!! Hoping to sell my flowers this year 🤞🤞🤞
The marker at least mine are called OIL PAINT MARKERS NO fade if you want to keep them for years outside I would still use some sort of varnish coating ...
How did I miss the grow along zoom? How do we get notifications? I’ve gotten about 50 % germination. Baby’s breath is practically none. My last frost date is April 15. Thankfully I only used half my seeds. I will direct sow here in Georgia.
I would love to know - what size are your soil blocks, and do you bump any of them up to a bigger size later? The snapdragons were huge for those little blocks, but obviously happy!!
What did you name the beautiful little black silkie chicken?? We have a white one my son named Princess Silkie.. Thanks for the great videos! I'm searching for the pickled pepper video next!
Nicole, have you ever tried any from the costa variety? I’ve really enjoyed growing the snaps and costa in the mini blocks. Great start to soil blocking. I’m pretty sure I’ll chose different snaps for next year. I didn’t know enough about their groups until I chose those. I’m in southern Ohio.
@@FlowerHillFarm Whoa, that was a mess of a comment left while sleepy. 🤦♀️ I was a little baffled by the groups. Somehow thinking that the Costa series could handle more cold…guessing it’s more about bloom timing than that. Stock is the other flower seed that did so well and is now in the ground, with a succession tray up growing up to follow. Your off to a fabulous growing season! I’m so excited that you have the hoop houses and to see how well they work for you!
Do you recommend a heat mat for sprouting flower seeds, if not which seeds do you not use heat mat to sprout. I’m fairly new to the business only second year. Retired from labor and delivery nursing so literally a real novice..I’m struggling with 2 things when to plant seeds and which to put on heat mat. Thank you for your kindness have 3 go-to girls and your one of my three….Danielle and Laura. Thank you again I wish you the best. Ps my husband wants to know model your side by side is. We like Kabota
I see you don’t put holes in styrofoam containers for soil blocks. I’m investigating using soil blocks so I’m curious how you water seed that have not sprouted yet
For anyone who is pinching their snapdragons, I saw a video on Northlawn Flower Farm's Channel where she is rooting the cuttings, basically doubling her snapdragon production without starting a second succession from seed. I thought it was a great idea and it can apparently be done with some other seedlings as well. The video is called, "Propagating Snapdragons from Cuttings // Pinching Snapdragons for Free Plants // Northlawn".
Awe! We are new to your channel--my oldest daughter loves growing flowers ❤️ Going to have to nab some of these flower seeds for her to start. So far we have marigold, zinnias, & violas… ❤️❤️❤️ Love your garden! ❤️
I have been watching an enjoying your videos for about a year now. I just have to say, I am loving your hair at this length! It just frames your face in such a flattering way and brings out your natural beauty. You have to keep it like this! It would mean a lot to me 😁 hehe!
Hi Debbie! What usually happens is I can keep up with hair appointments in the winter but once the season starts I have no time! It grows SO fast! Thank you though
Love to watch you plant your trays, I got my row trays today from Amazon. Omg those are so hard to find. I'm in a condo have a large flower bed. Wraps around the building. About 125 feet by 2 feet. Back yard is my tomato patch and more flowers. My neighbor got me on petunias and marigolds zinia's snapdragons. Are snapdragons hard to grow? Mine keep dying off. I dug out 4 plants to over winter 2 died other two growing thick and lush. I have full spectrum lights. Pepers and tomatoes are growing good. I am allergic to pollen, dirt and dust. So I mast up when I'm around them. I'm in Ohio grow zone 6a I'm 2 miles from Lake Erie.
I started snaps in February in my basement and mice are chewing the leaves off of them, entire tray last night! Has anyone else ever had this happen? It's a first for me, very disheartening!
Funny to see you’re using the Chinese boxes! I use those too (or rather, food prep boxes) but there’s a quarter inch indent around the edges that tends to “pool up” all the water. Any suggestions on how to remedy that?
