Breakfast of the Gods: There are so many different kinds of Laksa in Malaysia but the one that has acquired a cult following would definitely be Laksa Sarawak also known as Breakfast of the Gods.
We had Laksa Sarawak on top of our bucket list when we arrived in Kuching and most definitely had to try it to see what the hype was all about. Different to the Laksa Penang that we had earlier, this one was not as sour but more on the spicy side and we were quite pleased to have tried it.

I think most vlogers do it wrong when they try Sarawak Laksa. They would take so long to talk and describe about the Laksa before eating it that the vermicelli rice noodles would have soaked up all the broath and dries up the Laksa serving and getting cold. Sarawak Laksa is best taken immediately after servings when there is lot of liquid broth and hot. So next time when trying the Sarawak Laksa, eat first then you can review it after. It makes the whole lot of difference.

Kosong: Plain Biasa: Regular Sirap Bandung Laici: Rose syrup with milk + lychee There are many different varieties of Laksa in Malaysia. 1. Sarawak - Sarawak Laksa Creamy chicken broth with coconut cream and local spices. Served with rice vermicelli and topped with prawns, shredded chicken, shredded omelette and beansprouts. 2. Penang - Asam Laksa Sour, spicy and fishy broth. Served with fat rice noodles and topped with julienned cucumber, julienned pineapple, fresh onion, ginger flower and mint leaves. 3. Malacca - Nyonya Laksa Sometimes referred to as laksa lemak due to the generous used of coconut milk in it's broth. It's either served with egg noodles or rice vermicelli and topped with fresh prawns, fish balls, fried tofu puff, boiled egg and beansprouts. 4. Kuala Lumpur - Curry Laksa Also known as kari mee(curry noodles) in coconut-based curry broth. It is either served with egg noodles, rice vermicelli or a mix of both. Topped with half-cooked clams, shredded chicken, sliced fish cake, fried tofu puff, boiled egg and beansprouts 5. Johor - Laksa Johor Fish based sauce in coconut milk, served with spaghetti. Topped with julienned cucumber, chopped longbean, ginger flower, fresh onion and herbs. 6. Kedah - Laksa Utara Quite similar to asam laksa 7. Kelantan - Laksa Kelantan/Laksam Thick mackerel sauce that has a distinctively sweet taste due to the addition of palm sugar. Served with flat rice noodles and topped with fresh beansprouts and herbs(ulam). 8. Trengganu - Laksam A subvariant of Kelantan Laksa, which has the same sauce but uses thicker flat rice noodles.

I'm still confused about laska kosong. What would be the difference between laska kosong and laksa biasa? I know that kopi and teh kosong has no sugar and milk added. So I would assume that with laska kosong some toppings or other ingredients have been omitted??

Once described by Anthony Bourdain as "breakfast of the gods", Sarawak laksa is unique to the island of Borneo.. but this shop wasn't whr Anthony Bourdain go in Sarawak..U must go tat one to give a try He first tasted the dish at Choon Hui Kopitiam in Kuching 10 years earlier when he visited the shop to film his ‘No Reservations’ series for the ‘Travel Channel’. He must have missed the dish so much that he returned to the same shop in 2015 to shoot for CNN’s ‘Parts Unknown’ - his award-winning show. It is learnt that the production team paid the bill for every patron at the shop during the filming

Moms Laksa has more of a thicker broth / soup than other places like Choon Hui or Choon Choon. Both are equally yhummy

Welcome to my honetown Kuching Sarawak.You can try one of the Laksa Sarawak in Chong Choon Cafe.This cafe used to be full with locals and foreigners as well.Kolok mee, mee sua and Kampua mee also very famous in Sarawak Dont forget to visit topspot seafood not.far from Kuching waterfront.Hope you enjoy yr stay and cheers.

the best laksa that i ever eaten. eat it immediately after the laksa arrived, when it is still hot.. my fav. dont feel scared to ask the local as you know that english is widely spoken here in Sarawak.. Sarawak, the second land of the Queen of England.. 😁

Bandung, a city in Jawa. Strangely, d word is used in Malaysia for a type of drink n also a noodle dish. Sirap is rose syrup, sirap Bandung lycee is a drink made of rose syrup with condensed n evaporated milk n few tinned lychees.

7:58 The Sarawak laksa is not meant to be super spicy. In fact, Sarawak food are usually not on the spicy side as compared to food from the peninsula (Malay food would usually be spicy though). So, if you're looking for something spicy, Sarawak is not the place. If you want to try indigenous food, there's a cafe hidden at an alley just across from a kopitiam (can't remember the name) not far from the Chinatown entrance/arch. It's called Pinggai. They served some indigenous food in a more modern way (not fusion but in a modern presentation)... food like chicken cooked in bamboo, fried rice with tapioca leafs and some typical Sarawak dishes too. For other indigenous food, and if you are willing to take a ride to the suburb... try Mummy Patz Dayak Cafe. She's only open for lunch though. Or try an evening at Langkau Arau Rumah Asap Dayak Stutong or Lepau Restaurant... Want to try the local rice wine? Small bottles are sold at the gift shop at the new museum. Just nice for a taste. Oh by the way... if you have not, Top Spot is the Jalan Alor of Kuching. Be there by 6pm or it would be hard to get a table especially on the weekend!

Just sharing for future knowledge: Each time chosing a shade under the trees.. make sure those tree don't have any poisonous itchy caterpillars that making that tree as it home base. Sometimes those tiny caterpillar just hang out with it silk thread and it falls on you without you even noticed.. but the bigger one you can easily see it..

@@sunkissedbucketlist i learned it the hard way when I was little boy.. but even when I was an adult still making the same mistake especially when you're at the jungle or someplace remote.. Last unpleasant encounter with this tiny devil when I was clearing a ditch during the dry season (alone).. setting up a fire under this tree.. and that smoke just making all those little devil falling from those tree.. i never noticed it at first.. even when I feel very itchy i just still think it was some poisonous plants i accidentally rub against.. but while I was looking for any sign of that itchy poisonous plants.. and at that time this small strains of thread silk with this tiny caterpillar just right in front of my faces.. and at that time all hell already break through.. because I am far away from civilization i got to go bare naked and rub myself with all the mud i can find just to ease those pain stingy itchy sensation.. it unbearable i almost get a heat stroke during that time.. but after finding a creek.. i just sitting there for as long i can remember.. Lesson learned.. but the pain just crazy.... Thanks god all those critters only attack at my chest and back.. if it go anywhere my faces or even worse my private part.. i will go berserk.. lmao.

its just cooked for an hour.. many sarawakian use instant paste of laksa sarawak. Some of them make it by them self. The broth made by many spices. I remember when its call by breakfast of the God by late chef Anthony Boden, He love laksa broth in Chinese restoren. I not sure where. he really appreciate Sarawakian food.

You should try laksa at 126 Laksa and Swee Kang. Swee Kang is just 2 minutes walk from that Mom’s Laksa restaurant where u also can try Bihun Belacan, sotong kangkong and other various ice cool beverages.

Sarawak Laksa is my favourite. I thought Penang had the best until I tried the one in Sarawak. If you're still in Kuching, don't forget the restaurant above the carpark. The butter prawns, lobster and jungle ferns are super delicious!!

@@hidayamztz1085 agree it's very tasty. As a Malaysian I'm proud to say I've visited all 13 states in the country and have tried the most iconic foods in all states. But if I ask myself which laksa I would go back for again and again, I think of Laksa Sarawak everytime. It's my personal preference I have to say. I think the different laksa we have are all great and unique in their own ways. Love our cuisine ❤

First, welcome to Sarawak. If you have time, drop by each cities in Sarawak to indulge in the diversity of food culture etc. Some suggestion for your laksa tasting : Take the sip of soup when the laksa just arrive on your table, feel the thick spices and shrimpiness of the broth, then, squeeze in the calamansi/sambal and give a good sip of the soup. And then, indulge in the vermicelli & others. You'll realize how different the taste is and amazed at how each "kopitiam" has different laksa broth. Each person has their own preferences of broth, that's why there is no best laksa in Sarawak , but each laksa stall has their own loyal customers. This is the uniqueness of Sarawak Laksa

Welcome to my hometown. After this try kolo mee either the chinese version or the malay version. You should also try ordering our famous drink, the 3 layer tea. Yes every state has their own version of laksa..Sarawak laksa is unique because it uses 28 herbs and spices to make the paste. You should visit the waterfront at night when there's more activities. Take the small boat across the river where you'll see a pink Mira Cake House. Here you can try out various flavours of layered cakes. You can visit our famous Sarawak Cultural Village to learn more about our culture. Also the biggest museum in Malaysia and the 2nd largest in SEA called the Sarawak Cultural Museum.

Try laksa at Swee Kang Ais Kacang shop, they also selling ice desserts such as ais kacang, cendol, ABC +.... cant name it so many choices. Try their best sellers Cendol abc special and White Lady its yummmsss..... u just passed the swee kang building on ur left at jln hj taha just 5mins walk from moms laksa

Guys, since you love to try the local food here, don't forget to check out the Kuching Food Festival.. The event is still going on till 21st August.. With 330 food stalls.. You gotta try some of the unique delicacies there.. Aight? Somewhere at MBKS area which is the Kuching South City Council..

Sirap Bandung ...Bandung does not mean milk but it is a name given for the drink Rose Syrup with Condensed Milk . Bandung is also a name of town in Indonesia but the drink does not originate from there though. Histroically I would have to research how it came to be named as such

you should squeeze the lime onto your spoon, then pour the juice into the laksa, throw away the seeds. the more sour the better. the lime will bring out the true flavours of the broth. perfect combo. don't be shy to ask for more lime if need be. limes are rather cheap.

Kosong literally translates as zero. Means no meat in this context. In the context of drinks, means no sugar. Biasa means normal or regular. Laici is the Malay spelling for lychee. Sirap is just syrup. Bandung is rose syrup and milk or evaporated milk. Traditionally evaporated because fresh milk was not readily available. Sarawak laksa is my absolute favourite, comfort food. Nothing else compares.

there's no Sarawak Laksa per se.... the dish is very common is Kuching...like the kolo mee. Elsewhere different dishes are more popular...eg...in Sibu, "kampua" mee is the city's flag bearer and in Sungai Tengang, stewed ducks is the signature dish. Next time, try the 'Chawan" smoked duck in Kuching. Can a task finding good one these days....

Try "Mui Chin" along Jalan Palm. His laksa is the closest to a so called 'original'. He operates from Monday to Friday only. On a good day, it's 'out of stock' by 10 am!

There are a bit different taste on Chinese Sarawak laksa and Malay Laksa Sarawak. Chinese Sarawak laksa not to spicy then Malay Laksa Sarawak. And the amount of coconut milk

There are 2 type of Laksa in Kuching that I am aware of. Mainly on the broth itself. One of two of them was made by chicken stock/chicken feet/chicken skin. Another one the broth is made by using the prawn/prawn head. Each has their own distinct taste.

In terms of food the kek lapis in Sarawak has many varieties, need to go to the main source to know all of them. Sarawak also has some beautiful beaches. Also they have 'long houses' which are famous in Sarawak. And of course the famous caves,visit them.

Some info on India street. When you mentioned it used to be called keling or kling that was the colonial term among locals for anyone of Indian origin. So in essence the meaning was the same. Apparently a British raja (king) Sir Charles Vyner Brooke changed the name to India street in 1928.

As for penang laksa, i can understand why you might not like it as much. It contains hae ko (pronounced hah ko) which is fermented prawn paste. It's stinky and an acquired taste. This ingredient is only used by Chinese as the Penang variant was probably created by someone of Chinese descent. I have only tried two types: penang laksa and johor laksa. You might like johor laksa better because it doesn't use hae ko but the base is fish (which i tend to prefer for laksa)

My favourite laksa would always be the Penang one. Fishy but oh so flavourful. That cake Lapis was cheap. Because over here in Kuala Lumpur, that would cost RM25. Love it... I always wait for your vlogs. I look forward to your next video.😊
