"Financial Crisis!" Conservative Opposition Leader SLAMS Birmingham’s Labour-Run Council

Birmingham’s Labour-run council has been slammed by Conservative opposition leader Robert Alden for leading itself into a “financial crisis”.
Birmingham City Council has requested a £1.25 billion bailout from the Government as it bids to recover from declaring effective bankruptcy, documents show.
Budget papers published overnight also confirm the council is planning to raise council tax by 9.99% this year and next, cut the cost of services by £367 million and initiate redundancies costing £100 million.
The huge “exceptional financial support” is considered crucial given the scale of the council’s financial distress, but commissioners led by Max Caller warned the money “is really nothing more than a loan from the Government that must be paid back through asset sales”.
Robert says: “They’re unable to balance the books with the incompetency of their own administration.”

WHERE DOES ALL THE MONEY GO?? - Council Tax always going up, Parking Permits everywhere, Parking Meters everywhere, Potholes everywhere - the City of Portsmouth is a sh*thole and a shadow of what it was 25 years ago. The council has slavishly bent over backwards to accommodate The University and scr*w car owners and gone barking mad allowing illegal e:scooters to run riot in the city - it's amazing that something which is ILLEGAL can be rented legally - what next, renting out knives. You couldn't make it up.

Can we apply this to the government who fund them as well please? It's under the tories that cost of living have risen so high. It's Liz truss's stupid budget that caused interest rates to shoot up. It's the tories who threw away vast quantities of taxpayers cash on unusable or undelivered PPE, a fast train set no one needs. Oh an what can governments do to bail themselves out that councils can't....borrow. It's the tories who HAVE caused mass poverty. It's the tories who have ruined this country. Wake up and look around you.

Yes I remember terrible labour last time in 2010 Debt was 880 billion now 2660 billion GDP debt was 52% now 98% World credit rating was 100% te rating now 87% ( below 22 other countries) Debt interest payments were 2,3% of annual gdp now 10..2% ( highest in g20) Yes terrible times and glad the Tory’s have made it alot lot F ing worse

Higher wages for the same job than in the private sector, out of date and unaffordable end of salary pensions, huge office buildings empty since covid with the workforce working from home, and completely over staffed considering councils no longer provide a lot of services. Another big rise here in Wales on top of a big rise last year! Roads atrocious, no libraries, no swimming pools, no leisure centres, bins collected when they can be bothered to turn up and all the above. What are we paying these huge sums for, certainly not services?

Every council tax payer in every Labour run Council needs to find out how much of their money is being given away to other wastrel councils up and down the nation, in the form of massive, 30 year interest-free "loans". I live in Wallasey on the Wirral, and when I learned how much our Labour "run" council gave away every year, I was stunned. The great socialist free money con is the real reason they have none of our money left to pay for essential services

When there are only 59% of the eligible households paying council taxes and the people who use services the most contribute nothing or a reduced amount then you are going to have councils going bankrupt as we are seeing
