At INC-4, Member States agreed to an ad-hoc intersessional open-ended expert group. This expert group will focus on the means of mobilization for the implementation of the legally binding instrument on plastic pollution’s (ILBI) objectives, a financial mechanism, and catalyzing finance.
In view of this context, the second in a series of webinars by the Financing Coordination Group will explore two crucial topics identified for discussions at the intersessional meeting: the means that could be mobilized for implementing the ILBI’s objectives and the alignment of financial flows.
The webinar will provide Member States and other stakeholders a deeper understanding of the financial mechanisms required to tackle plastic pollution effectively. Experts will also provide perspectives on obligations associated with the ILBI that need to be financed, the activities that could be supported by the financial mechanism, potential funding gaps, and innovative financing approaches that can support developing countries.
Speakers include senior leaders and subject matter experts to inform key decision-makers on financing needs in the context of the ILBI, and the role of a financial mechanism.
*Comprising The Circulate Initiative, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative, the World Bank Group, and the World Economic Forum with guidance from Member States.
