Finasteride and Dutasteride are two popular hair loss treatment options which belong to a class of medications called 5alpha-reductase inhibitors. Dutasteride and finasteride both work by preventing your body from converting testosterone into a different type of androgen hormone called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT which is a hormone mainly responsible for hair loss or androgenic alopecia.

Thank you for this video. I'm confused about both medications. One source I read tells me they will only work to keep your existing hair, another source will claim that they actually create new hair growth. Which is correct? Also, what is the usual prescribed dose for dutasteride for hair loss? My doctor has prescribed me 0.5mg capsules daily. I have seen on the Hair Loss Experts RU-vid channel that taking 1mg per week will still provide results, rather than taking 3.5mg. Is this accurate? Thank you for any help!

Great video presentation, but my only criticism for it is that minoxidil should not be the first line defense against Male Pattern Baldness. DHT must be blocked or else you will continue to lose hair even on minoxidil. Finasteride should be the first line of defense whether that be oral or topical application!

Thanks for your comment. In my humble opinion, it's not necessary to block DHT, we can try to oppose it's action of making hair thin eg with minoxidil, PRP.

@@DermaOneClinic I can respect that. I guess doctors from different parts of the world have a different stance on what is the best initial step against hairloss. Thinking back on my experiences in the fight against hairloss I think most people would agree that solving any vitamin or mineral deficiencies should be the first step before jumping into the use of prescriptions or chemicals. Then from their consult with your doctors!

Does dutasteride work by binding to 5-alpha reductase rendering it ineffective? If that is the case, there will be wide reaching effects because other hormones (e.g., progesterone) will not be reduced into their dihydro version (e.g., dihydroprogeterone). Or, does dutasteride work by binding to testosterone thereby blocking the ability of 5-alpha reductase from reducing the testosterone to DHT? If so, does it bind to any hormones other than testosterone?

I was given Dutasteride by my doctor instead of Finasteride when I sought for Finasteride to stop my male pattern balding. If these two are similar, then I guess there's no problem of taking Dutasteride over Finasteride. And today (December 1st, 2021) was the first day when I took my first Dutasteride pill, and hopefully I'll see some improvement in my hair in a few months :)

Hi.... If you are using a combination of finasteride and minoxidil then it usually takes four to five months for the hair fall to stop and 9 to 12 months for the hair density to increase... You can also add PRP therapy to your current regimen... You can also consider dutasteride but whether to wait or to start it right now is a question... So it will be better to consult a dermatologist in person and then consider your options carefully

I have been using minoxidil for almost 2 years but sheding happens always may be 3-4 months even after using it regularly. So I recently added finasteride 1.25mg every alternative days. I want to quit minoxidil. So the condition wrosen or remain stable only due to use of finasteride only?

You will lose all the hairs you grew on minoxidil if you quit it. Finasteride can not maintain the minoxidil dependent hairs…trust me I would know as I’ve tried it.

Hi... There are no studies available on the usage of combination of finasteride and dutasteride so we don't recommend such combinations....

mam i am rahman, age 21, i have grade 2 or 3 baldness, i started prp with finestrade 1mg and minoxidile 2 times a day in 2022 now almost 5 sessions are over the result was very good after 2 3 sessions, my dr decided to boast my result with converting my finesrrade tablet into detostride, after taking detostrade for 2 week i saw result was boasted but one day suddenly my left testicles got aa huge pain, i observed tht whn i changed my tablet thn this side effect thing happend, i immediatly stopped tht detosride and started treating my testicle pain for 2 weeks now it is ok thr is no pain, but i am now confuse which tablet i should take finrstrade or detostrade bcz after stopping my tablets my hairfall haas been started, my dr said thr is no connection of tablets and tht testicle pain, at presnt from week i am taking detostride but my hairfall is not stopping

Hi.... I could find only one study on beta-sitosterol which was done on only 10 patients although it showed positive results in male pattern hair loss... Very difficult to say whether it will be effective or not on the basis of such a small study

Hi... Tablets are generally given for high blood pressure....minoxidil pills for hair loss are given to those who have side effects with minoxidil lotion.... These are also effective for hair loss... But it's a relatively new method of hair loss therapy and is not available in India as of now

Hi... If you just using finasteride and you had side effects better to reduce the frequency and also you can start with minoxidil but for all these things you need to consult first Dermatologist and then you should start the treatment

I'm daily taking both pumpkin seed oil and extra-virgin coconut oil... Seeing great benefits for me, increased testosterone, denser hair, almost no hair fall anymore, increased libido and no side effects so far. Both of them are classified as natural anti 5 alpha redutase inhibitors. I also use a blend of natural oils topically, such as rosemary, grapeseed, coconut and castor oils three days a week. I also use a daily shampoo with anti 5 alpha reductase natural properties, such as green tea, rosemary leaves and such. It's doing the trick for me.
