Istanbul is not so much a travel destination for me as it is a city to live in, and for this 2,000 year old city, I wanted to spend the weekend exploring the fascinating story of the city spanning the Roman and Ottoman Empires all the way up to modern day Turkey from the key elements of the Ayasofya, the Golden Horn, the walls, the obelisks, the mosques, the train station, the tram, and presenting thousands of moments of city walking in a documentary-like fashion. documentary style to present thousands of moments of urban wanderings.
In this first installment, I'll start in Constantinople's Senate Square and take you on a journey to touch the ambitions of the rulers of the Roman Empire as they built their new capital and the tragic perseverance of a time of decline.
