Congrats!!!! So happy you got your residency! I have not yet received my Residency Card, however when I recently travelled to Holland and Finland, my paper Residency approval was enough. Good luck!

It's amazing, I'm also an over 50 female and I haven't traveled for a long time and I'm going to join my sister in Portugal for a few days, but then she has to leave, so I'm looking into spending a few days in Zakynthos, which may be my first time solo traveling!

Excellent video. I think an important consideration for some folks may be the ability to absorb a new language. Places like Lisbon and Porto may be more forgiving if one is not adept at picking up the language. Small towns, maybe less so. I'm shooting for Guimarães and am assuming my Portuguese will need to be better than if I were to target Porto nearby.

Well, although you may be surprised on how many in smaller towns may speak English, it is the best plan to undergo working on Portuguese so you can get more out of your stay in Portugal. If you want to go for dual citizenship, you'll need to take a Portuguese language test, just a heads up.

@@CORRTravel You have a good point, the Portuguese have among the highest percentage of proficiency in English relative to other non-English speaking countries in Europe. I don't know if it is accurate, but the figure I heard is somewhere near 80%!! I have an active application (since June 2022) for dual citizenship based on a now expired law for the repatriation of Sephardic Jews (Jews expelled from the Iberian peninsula during the times of the Inquisitions)! While there is no language req under that law, I'm currently beyond the minimal A2 level required for citizenship, floating somewhere solidly in intermediate land B1-B2. The chasm between B2 and C1/C2 seems so dauntingly huge. Anyhow, I like hearing about your Portugal adventures. Thanks for the time you take to make the content!

Glad it was helpful! I know, I know... my Spanish keeps slipping. Lo siento! Lol. It's one of my biggest adjustments. I hope people will forgive. That, and the fact I'm sitting under a red umbrella. 😀

@@CORRTravel luckily, as a Californian, my Spanish is minimal. I studied French in school, and my Spanish is mostly in the understanding, not speaking it. This combination is helpful in learning Portuguese. Portuguese people are so nice, most would never want to correct you, unless you specifically asked. I can wait to visit again!
@CORRTravel

@@Nubianette Honestly, lending to speaking Spanish is an effort that should be attempted, at minimum - it has helped me when English was not an option. Not all Portuguese may understand, but you'd be surprised. Additionally, much of the written language is similar so you would be able to understand some basic information.

@@CORRTravel yes, with comprehension, French and the Spanish I know, does help with understanding a bit of Portuguese. Definitely helpful when learning Portuguese, it’s just that there’s a bit of a rivalry between Spain and Portugal, I was told, and English is preferable, surprisingly. Using Spanish for some, isn’t favorable. But, there are people who are Portuguese and Spanish, and they don’t care. It could be, more Portuguese now, feel the domination of Spain in their lives. I did observe one American woman use her Dominican Spanish to a waiter. I used English. He was nice, but when he realized she spoke English, he only spoke back to her in English with a pained grimace. I also got my drink and food orders before she did. Being in different cultures is definitely interesting. 😊

I highly recommend you scope out one or two places in Portugal and staying in Portugal for 30-45 days. See if you like the place. Meet locals. See if you belong. Don’t do all the bureaucratic paperwork if you don’t belong there. That 30-45 day stay will give you a good insight. All other tips in this video are valid. I love Portugal but cannot live there. Just me.
