David Crosby and Graham Nash singing Stephen Still's song "Find The Cost Of Freedom " with David Gilmour. from David Gilmour's DVD Remember That Night , live at the Royal Albert Hall.
retired marine here, turned 17 in Saigon during Tet, and dying now from pancreatic cancer. This is my funeral song as my ashes are spread in the redwoods of Northern California. By about March 2018. I am tired of pain.
Honestly, If i was there I would have removed my hat, and not muttered a single sound. It is nice to see the audience have such a reverence for beautiful a harmony such as this.
I just got the chills from watching this. Mr. Nash just nailed his part. Crosby always sings like an angel and he has those very hard to cop middle harmonies. Gilmour does not get enough credit for his vocal abilities. It's his own fault for being such an amazing guitarist.
My dad died New Year’s Day this year. He was a Vietnam vet and saw many of his buddies killed. He survived to raise me. Bless his soul. I love you dad. I hope you have now found peace.
My heart breaks for the loss of this talented, iconic singer, songwriter, guitarist/musician whose messages will live on forever. RIP David Crosby. From the first time I heard him in the late 60's until recently, the magic & passion in his music has inspired me. Future generations will continue to be blessed by the gift that David Crosby's music has given to all of us.
Holy sh*t, that ws abslutely SUBLIME! To the 30 people who disliked it? What is WRONG with you people??? Pure, classic, three part harmonious perfection!
@@FSEVENMAN I grew up listening to the "real" version while it was still new, smartass...and my original thought that those dislikes were completely unwarranted? Still stands.
Today 04-05-2010 it's the sixtie- fifth time that all the people in the Netherlands remember all the brave men and women who gave their lives for freedom in Europe. This wonderful song, performed by three exquisite and beautiful voices, sounds so special on a day like this and it gives me goose bumbs.
Whatever you think of David Crosby, when he comes in on that high harmony, its just like heaven's gate opening a crack to let the brightest light out and blind us all. No 4 voices on this planet to touch CSNY together
I listen to this song and think of the hundreds of thousands of young men that lost their lives for a piece of ground may they all rest in peace YouTo David🙏😫😭🎤💯
Even more amazing, this live performance of the flip-side of “Ohio”, the huge audience sat down, shut the heck up, and just listened to these three voices weave harmonies smoother than a pipe organ. No one tried to insert themselves between vocals with annoying “whoops” and whistles, all trying to top each other, trying to make it about them and totally missing the song. This is how moments like these should be.
BlindOwlsGuitarist, your absolutly right, i just replayed it and the audience is dead silent. Its amazing that the entire croud as a whole; respected such a beautiful song by not making a sound.
mick2u! You GOT it! Freedom is NOT free! It's painfully pricey! All of us OWE BIGTIME to those brave men and women who have paid this price! If you see a soldier, Marine or Sailor Shake his or her hand Say Thank You! TrustME You'll make their day and you'll feel special too! Peace!
For Dave. I feel your pain. Lost my baby brother July 2nd. USMC Vietnam vet. Died from exposure to Agent Orange. He was 71 years old.Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. The pain never goes away.
Your brother puts the absolute truth to the words, FIND THE COST OF FREEDOM, I'M SAD FOR YOUR LOSS, I'M A MARINE VIETNAM VET, 1967 to 69 1st Mar Div. Your brother saw the cruelty of savage war up close.
I was totally shocked when I heard/saw this song on the DVD.I sat on on a chair, I just looked at the TV and I couldn't say a word after that...it was unbelievable...the 3 most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
Thank all the powers that are that these dudes have chosen to bless us by growing old gracefully and continuing to sharing their beautiful talents with us rather than spinning out early like so many others in their industry :-) David Gilmour is just my number one hero and I still thrash my Crosby Stills Nash and Young albums no matter what permutation or combinations of those guys, I guess true genius is ever lasting.
Sweet harmony at it's best..Ed2L you rule for bringing the CLASSIC Crosby..Nash..Gilmore to us..Sweet memories now possible to experience once again..I am honored!!
I love that when they sing in unison or in harmony no one voice dominates the others. While watching this, I was reminded of the two (I think) albums that Linda Ronstadt, Emmy Lou Harris, and Dolly Parton did as a trio. One voice always seemed to dominate (I'm sure you can guess which one!), and it got kind of irritating because all three of them possess wonderful voices. This song demonstrates the teamwork of three singers who understand how marvelous it is to hear such a harmonious blending of voices.
Mother earth will swallow you lay your body down. That's actually heartbreaking when I think about it. I don't do fear very well. I can't imagine what that must be like going out my front door and being shot at and bombed and coming home without the ones I love because they did not make it. In 2012 I was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Mother earth bless her heart was getting ready to swallow me but I survived. So today I am grateful to those that fought for me and for the doctors and nurses and those that loved me when I could not love myself. But most of all I am grateful that I get another day to listen to these three fine men sing this beautiful song one more time. Life's good rock on
@@mikey-domagala Hi Mikey, sorry my brother for my late response 😜 I'm doing okay I hit my 10-year Mark cancer free February 10th of 2022.. thank you for the awesome message you left me and for thinking of me it's because of people like you that give people like me Hope and Hope is the greatest gift that one human being can give to another!! @@mikey-domagala WOW!!! February 10th 2012 was the day I went into the hospital to die but I survived and now you just made February 10th extra special!! Thank you God for Mikey and his Heart of gold 🎂❤️
David Gilmour was one of my favourite singers if the period, among so many others. Crosby, Stills and Nash were actually my favourite vocal band of all time...
Three performers who alone are amazing but together form a masterpiece! Saw CSN & CSNY numerous times. Also got to see Gilmour. Another amazing performance! It is a shame what has become of our musical history. CHILLS CHILLS CHILLS
Tell you what - if Stills ever calls it a day, they can become Crosby, Gilmour and Nash and I'll sign up for that. Excellent stuff - voices blend beautifully.
In 1970 I heard CSNY in concert - when they did their a cappella set, it Was that quiet. It was a large venue, full house, and you could have heard a pin drop. Unfortunately, subsequent CSN w/wout Y were never that quiet again - audience just ignoring the pleas of David and Graham to be quiet so they could hear each other and stay in pitch. This lovely performance was just stellar - thank you for posting it.
The song was written as a Protest to the Vietnam War. Listen to the Words forget the protest. Truth is in the words The Words pay tribute to all of the Fallen Warriors. This Memorial Day let’s remember those who paid for our Freedom
This is in regards to the protest of the escalation of the police action in Vietnam protest that entered into Cambodia which resulted in the Ohio National Guard murdering 4 students at Kent State and injuring 10 others. A time I will never forget.
Just Awesome! I have seen on youtube British and American's arguing over who's the baddest, here we see that we have always been side by side when freedom was threatened. British and American singing about those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Those were the bad asses between the two nation's.
The resurgence of folk music in the late 60’s and early 70’s produced some of the most amazing and inspiring music ever recorded: Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor… they enriched us beyond belief. David Crosby, Steven Stills, and Graham Nash stand among this group as icons whose music will live on forever.
