Something I found that really helps is if you scan the drawing, and then print versions of it to try to color I usually draw a star in yellow highlighter on the original drawing, and then make the copies in black and white, so I can se which is the original drawing.
You should see my maths jotter. Every page has a drawing on it, and my teacher hates it when pupils draw in their jotters. Once he gave detention to somebody for a smiley face our other maths teacher had done in their jotter. I don't let him see my jotter. Ever.

I have a couple different styles, but anyway I have some tips. 1. DO NOT Let ANYONE tell you your style is bad. Its YOUR Opinion. 2. Let yourself be free. Draw whatever, whenever. 3. Doodle. What does it seem you like drawing most? Draw that a lot. 4. Have as many styles as you want!! 5. If you see something wrong with a piece you've worked hard on, oh well. Its something for you to cherish. Its beautiful. 6. SPEND TIME ON IT Draw frequently.
I have a problem - I'm decently good at drawing, but only when I'm doing fanart. I have a tendency to copy styles almost _exactly._ If you put my fanart for say Rick and Morty alongside my fanart for Death Note you wouldn't believe they were done by the same artist. So how do I develop my style? I've tried and failed to mash things up. It looks bad and when I try to fix it it becomes one of the things I'm trying to mix up in the first place >_
What is a good type of way you like to draw that pleases you? Anime, chibi, simple, or basically pick a style you like and is easiest when doing fanart. For example, anime. If you like that, you should use it. If there is any thing that you would like to add and take away, go ahead. One of my styles are anime. But I changed up the eyes a bit and mouth and also the hair. Also, you could have many styles. A tip on drawing is sketching out the body and the bone structure and basically whole body. don't erase sketches until you're done. tutorial throughout drawing USE PENCIL**: 1. Sketch body of the character. Make it in the pose you want. note that you can make this how messy you want, it doesn't matter/ 2. Add hair, but make sure its not just scribble hair. You know what I mean. I do thick locks, not every strand separate from another..but if you want to do that, go ahead. 3. Add the face in the position, and, emotion you want 4. face is pretty much done, just add shading if you want or blush. 5. clothes...if you want to, put shading and wrinkles in clothes. 6. outline all details in outliner or sharpies, or pens, just something permanent 7. erase sketches DRAWING DONE! Thank you very encouraging! I grew up on anime and I have my own style for that pretty down but its probably still evolving! Now I am taking interest in western styles and old cartoon styles like Rubber Hose style and more so I want to develop one like that as well! Art is so fun! @Cwoo!, dont beat yourself up about it. Keep drawing until you like what you draw, and take criticism into account. Ask people about what they like least about your art, and you might realize that's what you don't like about your art and try to fix it! But whatever you do, dont get too upset about what other people say or even your own self doubt. Eventually, you'll find something you like and keep on doing it.

I went through that phase, and when I figured out how to do the peace sign, it began to be one hand doing the peace sign and the other behind the back or two peace signs.

Honestly same- except for the part "fast to draw" I don't care how long it takes, I want to have a good art style. Instead I find myself not even being capable of drawing stickmen properly

Know the feeling but I would suggest to draw as many hands as you can in weird position. Fist, pointing finger, grabbing beer, rolling cigarets... Its not that hard and I didn't have any experience with drawing people or took a lesson or watched tutorial nothing. Take a A3 paper and draw big :D thats how you learn it

Well I was just scribbling on paper a few weeks ago and I've drawn some chibi weird things. i was sitting here, listening to everything you were saying. i kept thinking “i wanna be able to draw. i want to draw.” i also thought “i know how to find my art style, she’s literally telling me how to. you’ve been drawing since wonder pets was still aired.” then it all came to me. i grabbed my stylus, opened infinite painter, and started. i started with the shape of the head, circling around the top. the. eyes and everything came to me then. i’ve found my art style. thank you.
What my style became since it took me forever to get liners and pens scared me: Commitment? Line art? Never heard of it. That said, I've actually had a lot of people tell me that clean lines just dont feel "me" and that they preferred messier sketches or messier/more jagged line art. I also kind of prefer it (and not just because it's easier)
Bouvardia Aj what if you can't keep a style. Example: Two days ago you drew exactly like LavenderTowne, yesterday you could only draw like Draw with Jazza, and today you draw like Jaiden Animations. ( I dont mean you would draw like RU-vid Artists, I mean you would draw in completely different drawing styles each day, cuz thats how I seem to draw :/ )

I actually learned that you don't have to make it the same width. Its better to let it be slightly messy. Having different strokes makes it have more depth actually.
Lmao when I was about 12 the only animes I knew were death note and yandere so I loved it and I thought that all anime was edgy and dark and creepy but then one of my friends showed me fairytale and I dropped anime like I'd grabbed the hot end of a curling iron cause I cringed so hard lmao because lemme tell you I hate fakeout deaths and even more I hate every villain turning good.
The copying thing is actually what actually made me take drawing more seriously. I would redraw lots of scenes from Hazbin Hotel and that influenced some of my art

I remember when I was in 3rd grade I sat next to these to girls who said my stick men were ugly and then I drew some other thing with no nose and then drew a nose like 5 years later and felt so proud
YALLLLL heres a tip that no one told me, idk if it’ll work for everyone but heres what i did: i started drawing in pen instead of pencil and because you cant rub it out i just went along and kept sketching in pen, because of that it made my drawings better? cause i kept practicing instead of rubbing it out and thats also how i found my style in such a short amount of time. (also look at other artists styles and see what u like and try drawing that but dont like fully copy it) its only been a few days and ive found a style i really like, i just need to work on the eyes :)
I found my style while making fanart, i never used eraser as a child i always just draw with pen even now,i can draw a finished thing without erasing a thing and my style is pretty realistic so
I went from pencil to Ink pens! I got really bored with me erasing every tiny thing I thought looked wrong, So I stopped drawing for a time. until I started to draw with ink pens (Thanks to Inktober that got me interested) It felt easier in some weird way, because I couldn't rubb away the mistakes, so I got more confident that "I can actually do this!" instead of "That looked bad! Just rubb it away!" The only time I use pencils is when I am sketching really lightly! =) I often draw nature like trees stones mountains (landscapes) and houses Sorry for my bad English! I don't speak it normally!

When I was doing my first oc, I started with tracing a picture of Mina Ashido and once I started drawing it more without the reference, I started to see my style. That method worked perfectly and i would recommend it so much :D
I’m 8 and that’s important for what im about to tell you, I found what I liked drawing the most by just copying what my friend did to draw. She was very good at art and I was not, she was AMAZING for her age! You could literally mix up her anime with a 15 year olds anime! So being the competitive little brat I am, ‘-‘ I started drawing her art style, and asking her for help, and learning her techniques, soon I got bored of anime characters with wolf ears a tail and a standard woman’s THIN body. And one day in art class I was curious after watching a naruto episode with my brother, I had never seen other anime at the time and in art class I wondered … “is there other ways to draw anime?” Narutos style of anime was so different than mine.... So I searched on the school iPad “anime drawings” and down the rabbit hole I went! I eventually stoped copying and came out of my comfort zone. I didn’t want to draw ears on this character, I didn’t want to make her thin as a stick! And I didn’t want to trace, because at this point I wanted to be able to make real art without tracing. And after that, I started practicing art none stop, and currently my style is a slightly curvy anime with realistic proportions and hair but fantasy enough nobody expected it coming! And that pretty much explains how I got my art style!

You can definitely start learning by copying, but maybe not tracing so much. Learn to draw by copying the way LavenderTowne does in the video. Unless you're tracing circles. Circles are hard
Well, as a dumb wanna be pro, I have concerns when it comes to copying. What happens if the artist you are copying is making mistakes? You will learn, yes, but there isn't a guarantee you'll learn something correct. If you are hobbyist you probably have nothing to worry about, but anyone more serious needs to start working on "realistic" things, learn the rules before you break them.
Copying is a great way to _start_ drawing and build confidence, or at least that's how it was for me. Then you start to draw from life, looking at pictures of real people and such.
I get bored so easily with styles so I'm always jumping to the next one. I don't know if I'll ever have my "own" style at least a style that will stick.
Death Queen feelin ya, mine changes EVERY time i figure out a new angle to anatomy (my pitfall is in my anatomy). I cant get a style to stick, although if i go back through my work i do notice similarities between my current drawings and the kind of stuff i did way back in primary school, (just more refined because, you know, i didnt know anatomy was even a thing in primary school).
SilverDirt Draws yeah but I'm the type of person who never likes to keep things the same I always want something diffrent that's probs why my style changes. Maybe it's the same for you *shrugs* who knows.
I used to be like that, I would switch styles almost daily, and a lot of them would look incredibly similar to whatever artist I was into at the time. obviously this changed a lot and I would find that one particular style wouldn't work for a particular artwork so I'd either switch to one I'd already developed or develop a new one for that piece, and after about three or four years of this I finally got something similar to the style I use now. it still changes a lot but it's less drastic changes now, usually I just change parts to make them more realistic because I'm trying to work out real proportions before I simplify it, but I think it proves that just because your style changes a lot now doesn't mean it'll always stay that way.
You could try to let the style find you instead of searching for one. Try as many as you like and while you do see which characteristics stick to you and which you like best. Also having multiple styles isn't bad at all, it's actually better.

I'm in my south park phase rn and I literally just look at the fanart for hours and save drawing styles that I love for inspiration. I can draw heads okay, and I just full on free style the faces but when it comes to drawing bodies I have to trace over references, but it ends up contrasting with the layout and style of the face ect and I just can't seem to make the bodies look okay with the heads. Another thing I'm struggling with is the shapes of the hair and all the textures in clothing and dhgfxhdeyugr it's just so hard, and I really want to be able to make south park animatics, I'm not giving up since I'm pretty much new to digital art and actually drawing good stuff, but it can just get so frustrating

Just keep drawing. Would find it. Don't think about that when you're drawing. At some point you will bild one. It seems to me that I have no style either but I've stopped care about that too much or I would stop drawing. Don't worry it'll happen.

and don't forget: coloring is also a huuuuugggee part of your and other's styles! lines make up one part of your style, but color can make up a massive part of the personality of your art. like- do you use more saturated colors or blanched out colors? what about shading? or what about complexion on skin? even lighting or how you color eyes can carve out your style and make a difference. i know with my art the finished/colored product always looks different than just the lines
The way that I found my art style is by just playing your videos and drawing. Not even looking at the screen,just listening to your voice and drawing Since I've been watching you for kinda long time I got used to your art style and I always loved it, especially that way you draw hair So when I listened tp your voice I just kinda combined my idea with a way that you draw some things

I adjust the realism depending on the character. I usually make more stoic or scary characters lean a bit more on the realistic side, but it can also go the other way 'round.
juunbug I have roughly 5 different art styles that I switch between. So I agree. Semi-realistic (like comic books), more cartoony, and a lot of little variable styles
my current art phase is "oh hey, that actually looks nice im keeping this style" to "that style looks cute, im ditching my old ugly one and using that one" the very next day
Yes, don't listen to them! My style USED TO be like perfectly proportional characters BUT their eyes and mouths were bigger and more expressive. People were calling my style ugly all the time at school, later when I tried to find a publisher and so on. This devastated me so much that I gave up on it. Now I draw anime and want to kill myself. Now when I look at those old drawings I see a style that was MINE that was a part of me and it was ruined because I was an idiot. Don't listen to other people. They are not you and they cannot tell you how to draw in your style!
I have the same problem now with my uncle saying that my drawing needs to be realistic like some artist he knows, but between you and me.... WE DON'T NEED TO LISTEN TO PEOPLE LIKE THEM, WE HAVE OUR OWN STYLE AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE!! NEVER FORGET THAT!!
I found a tiny piece of paper with 2 quick sketches of someone, each drawn a month apart, and it really surprised me how much I had grown with my art in only a month.
I think I really like a mixture of the "smaller head bigger body more adult feel" style and the "chibi/bigger head small body child feel" but more on the chibi style side, I like roundness in some parts but edges in others, soft pastel colors and dark colors but not too much neon or none at all, slightly cartoon like but also anime like, I think that would make a really good art style
@@matt-sn9mv I know, it's hard to find art styles. I'm quite creative (according to my friends and family, though personally I think they're over exaggerating) and yet I found it hard to find my style 😂
@@yurigacha-san1367 Being unique isn't really what art is about though. Look at anime, all of it has a relatively similar artstyle. You're allowed to have an artstyle similar or the same as someone else's as long as you're expressing yourself and like what you're doing.
My style is just weird xD (my profile picture wasn't drawn by me I found this picture on google and I didn't saw a "devianart" watermark so I just take a screenshot from it {Yes this isn't a picture,it's a gif} and I use it untill now except when I found my artstyle and I will change this photo
My art style changes a lot because sometimes I try to draw realistic or sometimes funny or something but then I see ppls art i think it inspires me but it’s really just like pushing my self to change my art style
