Hi! I'm Haley. I draw comics and character designs and midway through art school I accidentally became a RU-vidr! 🌟If you like cartoony art and creepy redesigns I'm your girl. (The email below is for business inquiries only please! 💞)
I’m an a beginner animator myself, the saying words out loud to study the way the mouth works when you pronounce them as you animate is such a real one, also great video as always! 😊
I was SO invested in this show back when it first came out! man, I didn't even realize it's been ten whole years since then. I followed a bunch of the artists just because they were on Strip Search, and I get kinda weirdly proud when I see them succeeding, lol. It's awesome that so many of them are still creating art today.
I am so ignorant of what app this is-- it looks like an ios thing. I've been really close minded about using anything other than wacom, but I am tempted still by the oled screen and simple animation apps. I honestly wish that rebelle & rebelle IO would be fully supported on an ipad-- or at least clip studio paint EX. Regardless, just like your examples, there is a lot of fun & learning to be had from have from such a flawless smooth workflow-- but idk. I am still tempted to try out the movink, but I am so loyal to my old tools that I am even willing to learn how to properly solder motherboard components just to keep her alive & healthy-- but I cant expect her to do 16 core+ workloads on a 6 core system...its just not fair to her! Anyways, back to the video, I am still learning how to properly animate my style of paintings. Mouth animations are going to be particularly fun for me since I have a couple of references in mind. Your shorts have been so funny Lavs! Both in context & in your way of animating your characters <3 Very inspiring! I always look forward to them ^_^ AND! I'm looking forward to getting help from the new plush!! There's something special about painting & animating outdoors during the winter. I'm pretty sure my laptop doesn't miss me taking her through the alleys to absorb the graffiti around Modesto, but it's the next best thing to actually throwing something up. Awesome digital painting to eye animation Lavs!
Fun fact, someone once called lavendertowne racist because she put buck teeth on the rat, as buck teeth is usually on Chinese caricatures. But...its a rat They got mad because she put buck teeth...on a rat
I just really want to say to all the animators that want to learn from that specific video that these tips would not work a lot of times if you want professional animation. It's just for easy and fast animation, that is also good, but I just really needed to say that. An animation speed or spacing Depends on the mood of the movement, so the last "wrong" animation (I wouldn't say you called it wrong, just don't have the right word lol) is actually DOES working if the character is moving slow (but of course there is tons of things to learn before this like timing, spacing, bla bla bla... But y'all got this if you wanna) Anyway, thanks for the video! It does show some things that are used in animation like someone already said:)
For the aromantic flag, I feel that making the daisy covering the persons mouth a different color to everything else like a white or yellow would've been a good touch to it, because it would leed the eye to that part of the art, making it more obviouse that they were covering the "kiss zone". That's just my feedback, though. I love your art, and don't think that you have to change anything about it.♡
I’d be interested in a story where you see a character emotionally deal with the fact that they’ve killed someone, even if it was a villain. Tired of scenes where heroes kill dozens of henchmen or even the villain themselves and then barely even react- like I know not everyone processes things the same way but it’s odd that this is pretty much ALWAYS what you see
I think my main issue with off screen villainy is it feels like they are trying to pull a “Two Faced” persona, but don’t commit to it. Especially if it’s a core character. At that point just split the character into two separate ones.
You know what else uses other people’s work without permission? ROM hacks. AI art is a gift from God to punish people like you. The humor potential is limitless, but your shortsightedness blinds you to the bigger picture
I doubt God would approve of something that might replicate the human mind, that whole "Made in the image of God" thing is no joke. You are trying to use technology to replace God.
Animation student here. These tips are really good! Some of them did actually help me out. I do want to mention that for the full body movement, the first example could work if you simply put one extra frame where the character goes past the key frames then returns to them. Now in technical terms this may sound confusing, but for example, let's say your moving your arm to the right. Before you ever move your arm to right, you move it slightly to the left first, and vice versa. The more power you need for a movement, like, per se, pitching a baseball, the more you'll move that arm in the opposite direction beforehand before actually pitching it. This is called anticipation and is one of the fundamental principles of animation that they teach in school. Basically if you added some anticipation on the first example of the full body movement, it legitimately could work just fine along with some other minor tweaks.
i kind of taught myself animation as i go along, and what i've seen is that blinking is a waste of time, so is coloring in mouths most of the time. they fly by too fast for anybody to care.
