How do you find the best headlamp for you? In this video we share our experience with different head torches. We divide the headlamps in 3 different types or categories. In each category we show different headlamps and talk about the pros and cons of the different models. At the end of the video we show which models we like best and recommend.
We live and work outdoors north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland. We use headlamps a big part of our life exactly 8 month per year and almost 24 hours a day during the darkest periods. We work with them, live with them and sometimes even sleep with a head torch on so we think we can call ourselves experts on headlamps. ;-)

Thanks! This was super informative. With all your dark days and the amount of time you spend out in them, you two are the experts on this, that's for sure. I'll put in a good word for the Fenix HM60R, a great all-a-rounder. It's comfortable enough that I often forget I'm wearing it, it's bright enough to see the "shows" when nighttime razor clamming or hiking in the woods after the sun goes down. In the 6 years I've owned it, has been trouble free. Not sure about it's availability in Europe, but for us in the States, it's a good reasonably priced option. Not sure if you've ever tried one out or used it under your extreme conditions.

Great, a well balanced expert review thanks. I like the Nitecore with the separate battery pack. Along the same lines as the Petzl, for a camp reading, going to toilet light etc, I like the Karrimor X lite. It’s lightweight , weather proof, can change to a low, high and red beam and only costs about 15 euro. It works with two coin battery cells which is fine for the typical occasional use when camping in the summer and shoulder seasons.

I always look for a head lamp which has a high cri led for close distances as it gives out a more natural light with better depth perception. I bought the NU 33 recently and I'm happy with it.

Hello Stina, Hello Matti, I use the Petzl BINDIheadlamp for many years. I think, it's a really good lamp for camping, biking , travelling, hiking. Very light (35 g), 200 lumen, red light mode. I used it in many nights in many countries and it's allways avalaible when I need it. I think, it's a better choice then the Petzl E+lite Thanks for all your videos Greetings from France Guy

I had the ledlenser h8or h7 and H14, I don't remember exactly and compared to some other brands they were not good. The batteries lasted VERY short time on all models and when the battery started to get weak(on the H8 I think it was)the lamp warned you by slowly flashing three times. The light went off for maybe half a second and then on again - three times...Imagine the shock the first time; I was training cross country skiing in the dark in high speed downhill at maybe 50km/h and the light suddenly disappears like that, it's very dangerous. Then I have tried some Petzl headlamps and now have the ActicCore which is quite good for the small size and can use both rechargable and ordinary alkaline batteries. Good for use in camp or tent in early autumn or spring when a powerfull lamp is not needed. For use when training cross country skiing I tried some expensive Silva models and was disappointed, the batteries don't last long and the lamp cuts the light flow due to overheating almost instantly if you are not moving very fast or it's very cold outside. And the headband is not good either, battery does not fit snugly on the back of the head...really bad lamps in my opinion. The solution was to go for more expensive lamps from Lupine. Bought the Piko X4 and it works perfectly both for training crosscountry skiing or mountainbiking or general outdoorslife or whatever. For me it's perfect, don't need more than Pikos 1900lumens.

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA the nu50 can accept an add on battery pack as well. I assume the nu43 and nu50 can run off of a power bank, since that's basically what the 18650 add on from Nightcore is. @@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Its a great brand.
