Could have clocked the alternator to properly fit, instead of cutting the brackets. But, I will give you guys a passing grade of A+ for actually thinking outside the box. lol. Good job.

You know you can pull the 4 bolts out of the alternator and turn the back plate to where I you needed it. It's called clocking the alternator.

@EXOcontralto, It's possible to clock some alternators, basically remove the back plate, not the plastic one, and move the rear to allow the plug to sit correctly. then reassemble and install

I saw an earlier version of this where they went for a ride and the owner of the van was soon happy not to mention his system was playing niiiice

Quick tip for swapping alts. There are bushings that slide in the brackets where the bolts go in. Just tap them out a little to make room for the new alt.Then tightening the bolts tightens the bushings back up as well.

I can relate to mike it takes a while to get to where your at I just bought my HO alternator. I was advised though to stay away from that 370 something about it not being good for daily use? That it only makes good amperage at 3k or summ I don’t remember I got a 320 instead!

Copper washer.. awesome work, but on that negative terminal use a copper washer 'for the extra bite'.. when two different metals are used and electricity past it may speed up corrosion. Not a biggie, as in may take a few years. But just something to consider, you try to use the same material with electricity where possible otherwise electrolysis or galvanisation may occur. Please correct me if wrong, but just thought about it when watching, I setup a 4wd with additional 300 amp hour batter with solar and a dual battery system..

I think its crazy that plug and play is made different like most of them are placed a certain way for a reason not sure why they'd move it. This Is the 3rd time I've seen a mechman alt doing this.

The pigtail contains an ignition wire to turn on the regualor. It will not charge with out it . wire is brown on GMs

Fun watching someone else upgrade/replace their alternator. I had to replace one on my dodge ram 50 FOUR times in the same year. Shitty engine, shitty alt. 45 amps is near-useless too, but thank god for carburetors, at least I made it home.

Is it more expensive to have someone custom wind and alternator for you or buy one of these aftermarket ones?

You should have just turned the end 180 and thus move the plug on the other side. you can put it in 4 positions.

Good timing, I own an Astro and it needs a new alt thanks to my subs lol. It's not quite dead but it's certainly not going to last much longer, pushing 138K with stock alt running 800RMS all day will destroy it eventually lol.

You will probably never read this...but I have to say it. Please please PLEASE be more careful with those grinders man. Just watching that guys face looking strait down that blade about gave me a heart attack! I have had one of those cuttoff wheels come apart while cutting a thin piece of metal. It got in a bind and threw that cuttoff blade at 8000 rpm and a giant piece stuck in my arm a couple inches deep. I was honestly lucky that it wasnt worse. If that blade would have broke and hit him in the face can you imagine? There is a ton of stories online you can look up (pictures included) of what the aftermath looks like when that happens. It can LITERALLY kill you! Sorry for the long comment brother but I am a big supporter and would hate to see one of yall get hurt. Love the videos!!!

Hey I have the same kenwood powered speaker box running a 1000 watt dual 2 ohm k9 running at one oghm in my shop that kenwood amp box is been basing for years an I've ran 4 walmart 12s on it no problem

I’m having issues with my voltage regulator... either it’s too hot in the engine bay or it’s shaking apart mounted in the dash!! How are all your alts set up exo? I mean I’ve watched the videos of installs so ur just all internally regulated? And they are all separate? Or just matched to one another?

@exocontralto . why didnt you just take the four bolts out on the casing and take a rubber mallet and spin the front. there by moving the position of the terminal? lol. i was leary about it myself the first time i did it but it literally take 2 mins
