Inspired by Law and Order, Fia Sabrina Boedijono came to Sydney from Indonesia as an international student to pursue a degree in forensic science. However, she soon found a new love after taking an internship at UTS: genetics.
Now, Fia is a bioinformatics research assistant, processing and visualising genetic data to enhance our understanding of respiratory diseases like COVID-19. She is also studying psychology, and when asked about how she can move fluidly from one field to another, she says, “I think that everything is connected. Psychology and biology…there is no way these things are separate, because otherwise we wouldn’t be whole.”
We follow a day in the life of Fia as she takes us through her work, her lifestyle and her reasons to study and live in Australia.
