Finding a Hidden Swimming Hole | Into Alaska E.2 - 30 Day Overlanding, Camping & Paddling Adventure
This is episode two of our family road-tripping adventure as we push west toward Alaska. In this one, we camp near Vermilion Bay and I take a hike with my son Hudson in the morning where we find a secluded swimming hole. We then push past Kenora, Ontario, and camp in Buffalo Pound Park in Saskatchewan where we see wildlife that includes Mule Deer and take in the rolling prairie landscape. It's a long drive but we roll into the Jasper, Alberta area well after dark. With the kids asleep, Tori and I cook dinner for ourselves using the outdoor kitchen on our off-road tear-drop trailer. We make butter chicken, an Indian dish and it's so good that it tastes almost like a chef from India dropped by our campsite to give us a few tips....or did one?
We're heading for the remote community of Telegraph Creek in Northern BC where we plan to canoe the Stikine River into Alaska. Please subscribe to my channel, like this video, and click the bell icon to receive a notification when I upload a new video.

What I liked most about this episode, was when you went through Saskatchewan, I'm from Saskatchewan 😁 Our province often doesn't get the credit it deserves, we have suuuch a diverse range of landscapes and eco systems. Many people are surprised to learn there are sand dunes, Canadian Shield, boreal forest, and badlands ......as well as endless prairie. The coulee 's are beautiful surprises. Great video Jim. I admire the parenting skills of you and Tori. I look forward to the rest of the Journey.

More Huddy cam! Loved it! Really enjoying your family trip. You and Tori make a good team taking turns driving, cooking, setting up and taking down camp. I love road trips too, Tori. Wesley is getting so big. Both kids seem to enjoy traveling. I know Huddy sometimes has meltdowns, but what little kids don't. What I liked most about this video was the Huddy Cam! Looking forward to your canoe trip coming up,

When I lived in Regina, I had two dogs, and Buffalo Pound Provincial Park was their favorite place to go for a run off-leash. Both of the dogs are long-gone now, but I scattered their ashes by an old farm-house that is there at the far end of the lake. I won't be back, but I loved seeing it again. It is covered in crocuses in the spring.

Jim, when I was younger I drove from Detroit, MI to Alaska on mostly the same roads you are on- we stopped in Thunder Bay on our first day and we hit the plains of SK and MB not too long after- and I recall the cornfields, which seemed to go on for forever- flat, straight roads as far as you could see. I've fished Eagle Lake as well so you are bringing back the memories big time- All teh best to Tori, Wesley, Hudson and you as you continue the trip!

Tori is the workhorse of that family.... 🤣😁😀 But Jim took on the skunky dog... You were very lucky to find a camping spot on the Sept long weekend at Buffalo Pound. Did you get a chance to actually drive/hike to the bison compound they have? Too bad about the lingering forest fire smoke. Did you grab a few handfuls of sage to burn in the fireplace used to keep the mosquitoes away? My brother's fishing lodge north of Yellowknife was threatened for most of the summer; being just 50m from the fire itself.
