In this video I retrace the steps of a walk I made in August 2021 (link below) from Tadcaster to Newton Kyme, along the path of the River Wharfe. This time I am returning to visit the ancient church at Newton Kyme, dedicated to St Andrew, with the added bonus that I actually get inside the church and have a better video camera!
I have used Edmund Bogg's 1923 book 'The Lower Vale of Wharfe and York - Round About Selby, Cawood, Tadcaster, Boston Spa and Wetherby'. Going out on these a adventures dwith local walking guides from time gone by always makes for interesting reading and a more inspiring exploration of the historic landscape! Even if you only trace the changes in the past century, it is still as exciting to do so as ever.
I have done several posts on my RU-vid channel about this walk which are linked here:

Also you can watch my video of the same walk from August 2021 here - • Tadcaster to Newton Ky...

Great video! I followed the whole Wharfe a few years ago (I grew up in Boston Spa), following some of Edmund Bogg's books, and now I've written my own book about it - called Walking the Wharfe - that's coming out in August. This brought back a lot of nice memories of my walk.

No problem. Happy to share! Don't expect *great* things from Mr. Bogg. He does capture some nice scenes and spots of antiquarian interest, but he does waffle on about the Romans and 'early british' monarchs, in a very general sense. So if that isn't your bag, then you can skip a few of his more verbose chapters. But it is very well illustrated and his knowledge of local folklore and antiquarian discoveries are decent! When I was a member of The Leeds Library they had quite a few of his other guide books and some even better by other authors of a similar time (I just forget those author's names!)
